Good Board but some issues
- Pros: This board has almost everything a user could want. Support for AMD Phenom CPUs, HD audio, HDMI adapter, and VGA port. The price and small form factor is great for space sensitive applications. This board can do some real work without generating much heat. The board has some great features like on board RAID 0, 1, and 5. With the right hardware this board has great performance and can keep pace with with other form factors.
- Cons: The wireless adapter is sub-standard!!! Almost no GNU/Linux support for the VIA VT6656 from the manufacture (VIA). VIA only distributes a 32 bit driver that barely works and the 64 bit compile freezes the whole OS. The driver doesn't support WPA and VIA is leaving it to the kernel devs to get this hardware working! When I received this board the bracket that held the WiFi adapter was bent and the card was almost broke. I had to straighten the card and the metal bracket. This WiFi adapter also freezes any USB boot media. I had to remove the adapter from the board to boot from any USB media. I know that VIA is not Zotac but it is up to Zotac to properly QA their products and any 3rd party chip that it sends. Zotac has great ideas and products but it suffers from the 3rd party components used.
A single 1X PCI-e slot is yesterdays news! They really could have put a 8X PCI-e slot on the board.
- Other Thoughts: The Zotac board is good quality for the price and form factor. Zotac could do much better to support Operating Systems other than Windows. There is no reason that I have to use a Windows or DOS OS just to flash the BIOS of this MB.
Built-in wireless is an appealing feature of this board and very frustrating when it doesn't work. I am considering purchasing a 2nd board to do an HTPC setup but that will greatly depend on the full functionality of the wireless NIC.
nice MB but quirky
- Pros: ITX small form factor. HDMI so it's awesome for HTPC build. Built in wi-fi. good quality
- Cons: OK...if i had reviewed this board a few months months ago, i would have given it a solid 2 eggs. It was terrible, I had winXP installed and the audio for HDMI worked sometimes. I had to reboot over and over and occasionally the windows start up chime would sound. Then I knew the sound was working. But even with that in mind, when watching a movie, the audio would still be intermittent. the drivers on the website dont work and the customer service is non existent. When I was able to contact someone they spent most of their time blaming every one of my components instead of admitting that their MB was faulty.
Here's the redeeming factor, I decided to just install vista 64. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Everything worked absolutely perfectly. I guess their drivers for vista are just better. now everything works and im pleased with this board.
- Other Thoughts: Here's a recap...winXP drivers sucked so bad and customer support is just as bad. vista x64 drivers worked great and i didnt have to experience their non existent customer support. PS..wheres my rebate???, been 6 months. I guess you guys just used that as a gimmick to sell your board.
The board works fine now, but caused me a lot of headache. I doubt i will continue to be a Zotac customer.
Sturdy CPU latch
- Pros: Small, had every thing I wanted
- Cons: Some thing emits a rumble almost constantly especially with the browser open. Really neat hearing your scroll wheel progress up and down the page.
After being amused with win7 and linux I decided to get my CPU back and RMA. I ruined my dual core Athlon trying to remove it (yes I had the lever all the way up)
- Other Thoughts: Some one else said he had similar problems with a Zotac i.e. "made a scrunching sound when installing CPU".
I have another Zotac with an Intel that is working fine. Have no idea if the CPU can be removed. And won't know until it's heading for the great beyond.
