Almost right.
- Pros: Small form factor, high capability compared to other Atom based hardware, low heat, very versatile.
This board runs ALMOST any HD movie, and when it's on form it's unbelievably capable. This thing loves itself some Windows 7 64bit, which is your best bet if you're looking at one of these.
- Cons: Chokes on the most highly encoded HD movies. Wouldn't run a tuner (at first, see other thoughts) Completely like FORGET ABOUT VISTA. Vista is just too heavy. Under Vista this boards abilities are wasted just keeping that cow running, to say nothing of doing so whilst trying to run software.
- Other Thoughts: I've been running every OS I can get my hands on to try and get this thing right. I've found for HD it likes Win764 best, using shark007 codec pack with x64components add-on. Still wouldn't run my tuner, though. Not in MCE anyway. Then I happened across the nothbridge settings in the BIOS, and found that if you switch to 667Mhz FSB, it bumps up to 2.010Ghz and OVERDRIVE! WEI in Win764 went from 2.2 for the CPU (the limiting score, BTW) to 2.8! And my tuner came back to life, big time. It runs cool enough to live happily in a case with just a 60mm exhaust fan, but just to feel better I'm getting a 60x15 fan for the heatsink. I still can't run Heavy 1080p stuff from certain MKV's, but I can live around that. Ordered up a dual core from a newegg competitor (would have got it from the egg, but they can't seem to get any) Gonna see how a 330 handles itself.
Ideal XMBC
- Pros: This is ideal for a small, quiet XMBC box with full support for 1080p MKV's from Blu-Rays. Full VDPAU support in Linux using the latest restricted drivers makes for smooth video over HDMI. SPDIF over optical digital out works great as well. Haven't found a thing it couldn't play.
- Cons: Could not get audio over HDMI to work in XBMC in Linux, have not tried Windows. Also I regret not buying the same board with the external power supply, then this thing would be near silent. I just didn't want to toss the power supply that came with my case, but it is definitely the loudest part of this system.
- Other Thoughts: Word of caution, XBMC does not support hardware acceleration for Windows (few programs in Windows do), hence video will be choppy as the full potential of the ION platform will not be used. Linux, however, enabling VDPAU in XBMC works beautifully and CPU usage is <20% playing 1080p MKV's. If you set it up right, you don't need the Atom dual core version.

Great for CarPC's
- Pros: Small, powerful, and loaded with options. This thing is perfect for CarPC's. You have built in networking, wired and wireless. You have capacity for 4gb of ram and 3 sata ports. The 6 back plane usb ports and the on board headers for more ports comes in really handy. The design is very efficient for cramped spaces and the system has more than enough horsepower to run Win7 Ultimate.
- Cons: None really other than the height of the cooler being larger than most Jetway CarPC mobo's. Just means you need to do some slight case modifications to get this into the average CarPC enclosure.
- Other Thoughts: I have this working in a CarPC case under the front seat of my 2001 Maxima. The processor ran cool during the hot summer months, which in Ohio, is a plus. It also has the horsepower to serve a 36,000 song WMA Lossless music collection on a 1.5tb hard drive along with Sat navigation, engine sensors, blue tooth, wireless networking, and various other software running behind the Centrafuse front end. This thing rules with a good touch screen!
What HTPCs are made of
- Pros: HDMI Out
Able to play HD video files and Blu Ray Discs Low Power Worked fine right out of the box
- Cons: CAN'T play full screen flash video from internet sites such as Youtube and Hulu. Flash doesn't utilize the ION chip and tries to handle everything with the main CPU which chokes at high res full screen. (from what I've read, even the dual core Atom can't play flash)
It appears to be a problem with flash so I'm not holding it against this board.
- Other Thoughts: I am using PowerDVD v9 and it works well with this board/CPU. I am able to view DVR-ms files recorded in HD by my desktop computer without problems. I am also able to view video from Netflix flawlessly using Microsoft Silverlight Player.
This PC will get a lot of use from me
Revision: OK for a myth frontend
- Pros: I have to revise one statement from my earlier reviews: It does supports sleep/resume from S3
- Cons: none
- Other Thoughts: Make sure you address the problem between keyboard and chair firs.
