4 out of 5 eggsSuper Card for an AGP upgrade

Pros: this card is an excellent choice for anyone with an older pc with an agp slot
very quite even with the fan at 100%
graphics are excellent
I have overdrive activated and this card does not skip a beat

Cons: The GPU runs a bit hot even at idle it stays around 122 degrees and around 137 degrees while playing a game
I thought about using a different fan and heatsink but didn't want to hassle with the destruction of this excellent card

Other Thoughts: *see pros
would have given it a 5 overall except for it running hot

4 out of 5 eggsNice, but AGP compromised

Pros: 50% better than my old 9800SE, Didn't use factory driver per feedback, and Omega drivers installed easy and work well. Stable and supports intensive games nicely.

Cons: Runs HOT. Needed to add another fan to a case that didn't get hot with the 9800 to prevent shutdown. Still runs warm at about 55C when pushing. Slow and hot compared to my 7600GT PCI-e for the same price.

Other Thoughts: Start thinking about a PCI-e motherboard.

5 out of 5 eggsWOW!

Pros: Made the mistake of ordering on Wednesday night so I didn't get my card until Monday. Install was a breeze and this card has rocked everything that I put in front of it. I was using a Radeon 9550 and I am really glad I looked at the article on Tom's Hardware.

Cons: I had to restart my computer after shifting my resolution to 1440x900 for my widescreen monitor but it picked it up after that with no problems.

Other Thoughts: Great card for the money! Dont miss this one if you are on a budget but want quality graphics

5 out of 5 eggsSapphire X1650pro AGP4x/8x

Pros: Card comes clocked at 594 Mhz Core clock and 693 Mhz actual Memory clock (1386 Mhz effective with GDDR3). What is even better is that the ATI Catalyst software has ATI Overdrive on it which allows you to overclock the graphics card from Windows up to 650 Mhz Core clock and 760 Mhz actual Memory clock (1520 Mhz effective Memory clock with GDDR3). The card received best graphics card for under $100 on Tom's Hardware during July, August, and September of 2007. Pretty much this card is currently one of the best.

Cons: The only thing that turned me off about this card is that it has a 128 bit bandwidth instead of 256 bit bandwidth. Also, the card runs at 60C without at normal clock settings. Much hotter when overclocked, about 70C.

Other Thoughts: I would buy this card if you are upgrading an AGP 8x system and are looking for the fastest thing worth sticking into that sort of slot.

5 out of 5 eggsOk

Pros: S-video, Super replacement for onboard graphics.

Cons: runs HOT, CD software

Other Thoughts: my first one burnt out after one week. i hope my second one will last a lot longer. i started to get artifacts and pretty soon wouldn't even boot.

4 out of 5 eggsgreat for the price

Pros: great performer, got to max out a lot of settings.

Cons: fan is loud. i have great airflow within the case and considered disabling the fan it came with all together. in the end, i didn't disable it, but i did remove the plastic casing which wraps around the heatsink/fan. noise went down a bit, and the fan doesn't go haywire as much as before when i play games. i did add another fan pointed at it on my case, just to make sure.

Other Thoughts: its a bit old, but if you're on xp, then this is a decent performer which is more than able for most games. if you plan on going vista, then you might want to hold off for a dx10 card.

4 out of 5 eggsHuge increase

Pros: just got this card and my 3dmark05 went from a 1700 (with raedeon 9550) to 4400+ not OC'ed. very good price for a good card.

Cons: AGP. the driver CD that comes in the box is horrible. DO NOT USE IT. it took me about 2 hours to get my computer up and running. go to the website download the drivers. also i noticed it runs hot. noticably than hotter than my modestly OC'ed 9550. fan is LOUD when at 100%

Other Thoughts: although i listed many cons about this, it can be a good card. just get the drivers off the internet. for an older machine like mine i had to mess around with my moniter settings. a previous review says to turn your monitors resolution/refresh rate up. 1280x960/85Hz is what i did.
i gave it a 4 egg because of the driver cd. it can be way better.

4 out of 5 eggsIt grew on me

Pros: Had this thing for a couple of weeks now. At first I was not impressed, driver installation gave me a lot of hassles. Turns out it was specific to the 7.8 driver (from, so I installed the 7.7 and it's working fine. Used the overdrive setting in the Catalyst Control Center of the 7.7 driver to overclock the card slightly. Seemed to help some.

Cons: Drivers are a PITA to install sometimes. Requires .NET 2.0 framework if you want to use catalyst control center. I installed it but this is the first program I've used that needs it. This was almost a 3 egg review, but the more I think about it the more I think this is a good card for the price. Woulda went with an x1950 pro, but it carried the hidden cost of upgrading the power supply. This card runs fine on a 350w power supply with 16 amps on the 12v rail. (If you have the PSU to handle it, go for the x1950 pro it's only a little more and offers up to 40% more performance).

Other Thoughts: Got this to mainly play Everquest with, at first I wasn't impressed because I had an ancient geForce FX5200 that pulled similar performance. Well where this card started shining is when I started enabling all the graphical functions and effects, and it still ran at a respectable framerate. Have almost everything turned on now and only area's with 50+ NPC's on screen give me trouble even with all the graphcis options enabled. Also, my old card would not run the supreme commander demo, this one run's the demo with everything maxxed out. Not sure how it will do on the full game with a bunch of players, but it handles 2 peoples armies quite well in the demo (me versus the CPU).

5 out of 5 eggsNice Card

Pros: Without overclocking anything. But setting all options to high, ie quality and advanced detail for all options, Jitteriness of standard settings is removed and anti aliasing is excellent for this card. Be sure to install the "full" driver and then the WDM driver also. Otherwise your icons will disappear and display will be corrupted. Once installed works really nicely and smooth graphics. Tested with Jedi Outcast. hardware accelleration for DVD playback. But no DVD software supplied.

Cons: No Multimedia center provided and ATI multimedia center from ATI/AMD website crashes on use with this card. ATI dvd decoder is not authorized for this card. Luckily I have windvd4. Now I can watch dvds too. After a few minutes of intense playback the fan switches to a higher spin speed. However temperature stays at a stable 59 celcius.

Other Thoughts: Get latest drivers from manufacturer website. There is a jumper on the card for NTSC/PAL. Default was PAL when shipped. This is not explained in any documentation. Display "wobbly" at lower refresh settings on a Mitsubishi CRT. Changed to 85hz at over 1024x 7xx for solid stable display. This is a very good card overall and Vista Aero compatible.
