2 out of 5 eggsGood Card for HTPC

Pros: Works great as a quiet HTPC card. Haven't even bothered to benchmark it since it'll never see a game. Installation was easy, and the heatsink stays relatively cool. Very nice that it's fanless.

Cons: After installing this card in Windows XP, there was an "Audio Component on HD Audio Bus" that Windows couldn't seem to find a driver for. Reinstalling the drivers made no difference, nor did telling Windows to look online for a driver. Finally found the driver through Windows Update and turned out to be the HDCP audio pass-through on the video card. Is it really that difficult for ATI/AMD to include this with the installation package?

Other Thoughts: Drove me nuts trying to find out what the mysterious device was without a driver. Hence the 4 star rating.

4 out of 5 eggsHD yes..... Gaming Not So Much

Pros: Price, perfect with 720p or even 1080p, but not for intense gaming, handles Q2/Q3/CS:S, but I wouldn't push it to attempt to handle something like Crysis, it'd prolly die. So great for HDPC, not for gaming.

Cons: Hangs every so often.

Other Thoughts: The S-Video > Component dongle kinda sucks.

4 out of 5 eggsGood price and function.

Pros: Dual monitor support-- one for vga and one for dvi. I see no difference in their output quality on the lcd monitors. Cheap, particularly with rebates.

Cons: No real cons but make sure you go to the company's website and download the patch if you are running this in Vista.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't count on it

Pros: decent for HTPC

Cons: Over priced. Discount the value of the rebate since you can't count on it showing up.

Other Thoughts: Based on the Customer service I have received trying to settle this, I won't be buying anything else from Sapphire.

5 out of 5 eggsHD Video

Pros: Got this to bring my old AMD 2800+ up spec to play my ATSC OTA TV and it works just fine. You have to install the ATI AGP patch or vista will poops on it self.
It flies through recording 1080i while playing 720p.
No fan it is nice, stays cool.

Cons: NOT a gaming card. The card does not suck, it is just not for gaming.

3 out of 5 eggs2400 PRO

Pros: Ultra low power consumption, passive heatsink doesn't even get warm, very small form factory, inexpensive if you buy this when a rebate is being offered. Enough power to render Vista Aero.

Cons: Make no mistake, this graphics card is slow. It comes equipped with 40 shader processors, but ATI shader processors are not very powerful. The 3850, an average mid-range card, comes with 320 of these exact same processors. Combined with a 64-bit memory bus and GDDR2 memory, this card will only play older games at low resolutions with reduced detail.

Driver CD is extremely bloated, literally hundreds of MB worth of installers.

Other Thoughts: Do not buy this unless a rebate allow you to get get it for ~$20. Do not buy this if you looking for a cheap gaming card, as there are better alternatives. If your budget is really this bad, look into a second-hand 7600GT or 7600GS, which will run circles around this card and can be had for $40 / $30 respectively as of 4/08.

1 out of 5 eggsif it works

Pros: cheap, fanless,

Cons: If the DVI interface is used, the card will randomly black the screen and then return to normal in a second, which very annoying. It is hard to tell when this will happen. If the VGA interface is used, everything is fine. It is possible that this card is defective. Anyway, it is on the way back.

Other Thoughts: It seems this card is too cheap to have some quality control

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Nice small card. Fanless. Puts out something to my Panasonic Plasma TV at 1920x1080 @ 60Hz, unlike two other ATi cards I have tried (X1550 and X1300). PowerDVD accepts it for HD video playback.

Cons: Does not accelerate HD video properly. 1080i broadcast TV does not de-interlace to 60fps correctly, unlike the X1300 which does it perfectly. For HD DVD and Blu Ray playback, it orignally accelerated VC-1 video perfectly, using less than 10% CPU with a 1.6 GHz Sempron! It did not however accelerate H.264/AVC video at all, and in a more recent test with the latest drivers, VC-1 acceleration was no longer working. Also caused a lot of crashes and problems in PowerDVD while playing the Heroes set of HD DVDs, all of which went away with another video card. Also, when acceleration was working, the video was limited to a 1280x720 window with a huge black border when displayed at 1920x1080. 1080p 60Hz signal to my Plasma TV worked, but did not go full screen (small black border).

Other Thoughts: I used this card with a Windows XP SP2 system. Perhaps a Vista system is needed for the card to work properly with HD video. I am instead using a GeForce 7600GT card, which provides no acceleration either, but works perfectly with my Plasma TV. I am relying on a dual core Athlon64 2.3 GHz CPU for HD disc playback and so far it has not let me down.

5 out of 5 eggsPrevious reviewer was wrong!

Pros: Great for HTPC.

Cons: Not great for much else.

Other Thoughts: Previous reviewer stated it came with an HDMI port and cable. Huh? Do you see an HDMI port in the photos? No, it does not have an HDMI port. It has an adapter for component video and an adapter from DVI to D-Sub.
