5 out of 5 eggsati 4550

Pros: - low profile
- reliable in temps
- still usable to this day in business environment
- not too shabby with low end gaming which is quite surprising in a small time card. nears the 4650.

Cons: none really. just of the cons i've seen in the poor reviews were problems of their motherboards giving out such as audio. video cards don't have any audio control up intil the r7-r9 series i believe, but i could be wrong.

Other Thoughts: other people reviewing need to review the basics.

5 out of 5 eggsDecent card

Pros: Low profile
HDMI

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I have to say that in the last 10+ years of building PC;s that Sapphire has been one of the more dependable and durable brands in video cards. I would not hesitate to purchase a Sapphire product and when it comes to video cards that is saying a lot because failure is inevitable and ease of installation is everything along with the product actually working out of the box. I cannot say because of Newegg policy who I would like to mention here but just know that you probably are not going to go wrong with Sapphire. I average about 5 years running 24/7 365 days a year before they usually go out.

1 out of 5 eggsNo good.

Pros: Fairly cheap. Graphics are adequate when it works.

Cons: Half the time it doesn't work.

Other Thoughts: I have had this card for nearly a year in my Windows 7 system. Right from the beginning I have experienced a number of difficulties with this card until it finally quit altogether this evening. Most of the time, if I left my computer unattended with any sort of program up and it went into standby, it would not wake up again when I shook the mouse, and I had to restart. More recently I have been getting random attacks of the BSOD. After every one of these occurances windows gave me a friendly message stating that the "ATI graphics driver has failed" upon restart. So...stay away from this card. I don't know if my running windows 7 has anything to do with these issues, but if you have windows 7 and are considering this card be especially wary.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This card works well. I've gotten a monitor and a TV hooked up to it. One is a 1920x1080 LCD TV and the other is a 1024x768 LCD monitor and it handles both excellently.

Cons: For the first few months the system would say that the Catalyst Control Center was open whenever I turned the computer off (it would still shut off, though). This problem ended after the 4th month.

Other Thoughts: This card handles games very well on our smaller monitor. On the TV, however, you have to reduce graphics quality a lot to get the same speeds.

I recommend smaller monitors with lower resolutions if you plan to use this card for gaming.

2 out of 5 eggsLess reliable

Pros: Mainly used with Blu-ray drive through HDMI port. Worked fine for 4 months, until..

Cons: Card died with no video or audio signal. My other cards just work fine on the same desktop.

Other Thoughts: Very poor and un-reliable support.
Tried reaching out Sapphire's support through the website and opened up ticket three times, as they simply deleted earlier tickets. No response at all.

4 out of 5 eggsGood entry card

Pros: low power, low heat, works great with Vista 32bit and Win 7 64 bit, used the hdmi to hook to a second monitor and then an HDTV. both worked fine

Cons: Entry level card, don't expect too much, OC not really an option due to fanless and power from pci-e. Not a huge fan of the catalyst software but not major issues in this instance.

Other Thoughts: 4 eggs not because of awesome performance, but because its a great "entry level" card. I bought it to replace the onboard video of an aging system and get an hdmi option. It goes that job wonderfully.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Value

Pros: Low-Profile Card with HDMI, DVI, and VGA. Works great. Fanless design, so it's quiet.

Cons: There's a tiny LED or resistor or something near the PCI-Express pins that can easily be broken off if you push at the right angle. I broke it off on one card, but the card still works fine, so maybe it was nothing.

Other Thoughts: I needed a low-profile card to work in 11 Dell Optiplex 380 machines -- this did the trick. It's easy to swap the full-height bracket for the low-profile one.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Performance & Value

Pros: Fanless Design-low power consumption.
Used in Dell Vostro 200 slim tower and does not push power supply.
Price-about $27 with Rebate

Cons: Older chipset but most people won't need the newer ATI 5xxx for a basic HTPC app.

Other Thoughts: Initially bought the 4650 Sapphire but returned it due to the fan and and seemingly higher power demands-Newegg accepted without a problem and then bought this 4550.

5 out of 5 eggsOK for HTPC

Pros: Using the RGB out (for now) to a 32" 1366x768 LCD HDTV and the video quality is very good! The card does exactly what I bought it for and that is to play videos from my HTPC to HDTV.

Cons: A few times I got color artifacts while playing videos, if this becomes a regular thing I'll just go back to buying Nvidia cards (which I've never seen do).

ATI's lame 2D performance in WinXP? The 4550 (and my ATI 5670) 2D/Desktop performance under XP can be somewhat slow in certain things, for example if you are a programmer (in XP) set a form to use the CS_DROPSHADOW flag (adds a shadow effect) and then move the form around the screen, its pathetic, my 6 year old Nvidia cards do this sort of stuff no problem, whats up with that AMD?

Other Thoughts: Just for the fun of it... I tried this 4550 card in a PC which has a Nvidia 8600GT 256MB card in it to compare, at idle the PC used about 10 watts less and while gaming it used about 40 watts less, but the 4550 is no where near as fast in 3D gaming as the 8600GT... , the 4550 can't even run Call of Duty 2 @ 1680x1050 with candy turned up at a decent frame rate, this is not a gamers card! ;)

5 out of 5 eggsgood card

Pros: got for the DVI input for a 27 inch monitor. picture is wonderful. fanless so no noise. powers itself from the mobo so no need for a 6 pin.

Cons: that somehow i messed up my review

Other Thoughts: i went to eggxpert to figure out the drivers for this. the ones on the CD are always outdated, i knew that much. but a very helpful guy pointed out that you shouldn't get the drivers from the card BRAND - you should get them from the ATI website. before the driver install i tried to watch a movie and it was skipping and acting weird. after the install no prob. it does set the resolution back to 800x600 so you gotta reset that in control panel.

i'm sorry about the 'wholy mowsis' review here. that is for the monitor (LG 27") i got. not sure why it got posted here but oh well. it was late i musta hit a wrong button.
