Sapphire takes aim at HTPC users with their low profile Radeon HD 4550 card. This card uses high-density aluminum fins to bring a totally silent solution to HTPC or general purpose computers that are required to run quietly but can also used for gaming.

This reasonably priced card has enthusiast class features like 80 stream processing units, 512MB of GDDR3 memory and an integral hardware video decoder. Clock speeds are 600MHz for the core and 800MHz for the memory. HDMI is delivered on the rear bracket together with DVI and VGA out.

Dual mode CrossFireX support allows two or more GPUs to be used together on a CrossFireX compatible motherboard for even higher graphics performance. Support for DirectX10.1 ensures the optimal performance and application compatibility with all DirectX10.1 applications and enables stunning 3D graphics and shading effects in the latest DirectX10.1 games.

REALLY nice card for the money

Pros: First let me say I'm not a gamer so don't read this thinking it's about gaming.

This card installed into my Win7 x64 system extremely easily. The motherboard had ATI HD3450 video embedded graphics already which kept the machine rating at a 3.4. After installing this card (and using the same Win7 beta drivers) the machine scored a 4.8. The extra horsepower is VERY noticable when using Photoshop or editing video files.

Since this card is fanless it contribute NO noise at all.

It also came with 2 low profile brackets. One for DVI/HDMI and one that only offers DVI.

Cons: None really. Being fanless you'll want to install it in a case that already has good cooling.

That's about the worst thing I can say so far.

Oh wait, I forgot. The heat sink is mostly on the front side of the card, but there is a small portion on the back side so if the PCI-e slot on that backside needs all the rom it won't fit.

Are either of these really a con? Not for me.

Other Thoughts: At $29 shipped after MIR rebate and email promo discount this thing is a no-brainer.

As of June 2009 the current ATI Win7 x64 v9.5 Beta drivers are pretty stable.

Pros: Fan less heat sink. Its quiet. The thing pumps out more performance than i had ever imagined, and it wasn't even intended to be as powerful as it it. Bought it just do display a picture and watch HD content on my PC. I was just toying around and installed Unreal Tournament 3. At 1280x1024 with details set to 1 or 2 the game flies! Its not what the card was intended for me to do, but its pretty cool to know how much it handles for the price i payed

Cons: Gets kinda warm. Needs adequate case fan airflow.

Other Thoughts: I would buy it again if i was doing a similar build.

Solid workstation/HTPC card

Pros: Silent, inexpensive, runs Win7 Aero well, HDMI output (with sound!)

Cons: Not going to perform well on newer games; get at least a 4650 for that

Other Thoughts: This card can drive dual digital monitors via DVI and HDMI simultaneously

Pros: - Quiet, no fan.
- Much better than onboard vid for light gaming.
- HDMI out.
- Price.
- 512MB RAM

Cons: - None really . . . if you're looking for a cheap card to run heavy duty games, this is not it.

Other Thoughts: I bought this to put in my nine year old's hand-me-down computer so she could play Viva Pinata. The onboard Intel graphics just couldn't hack it and I didn't want to spend more than $50. Found this on Newegg and it fit the bill perfectly. I figure I might turn her comp into a HTPC one day, so the card being fanless and having HDMI was also a deciding factor.

not bad for 40 bucks

Pros: card runs great out of box easily recognized by windows 7 and stable with ati w7 drivers. low profile kit was included in mine (PURCHASED LOCAL) also easily found by MOST linux distro's with proprietary drivers enabled.

Cons: this thing runs HOT a fan opposite this card or underneath it is a MUST!! so hot that touching the card may cause burns. i modified a 50mm fan to cool things down a bit. sadly not much support if any for TV out.

Other Thoughts: this card requires 350 watts for system power. if your home heating system is on the fritz. this should hold you over till the guy comes to fix heater. YEAH it gets that HOT. 4 eggs only because of the heat have feeling i will hold on to half broken (only hdmi works) nvidia card for a while.
