You get what you pay for, huh?
- Pros: Great card if only used temporarily, or for a Linux OS may be 5 eggs for Linux just because Linux can be a little less demanding than Windows. On the Windows index experience scale or what ever it is, scored a 1.0. That's very poor. But looks excellent on a 26" in Linux Mint 7.
- Cons: None, cheap and does what it's designed to do.
- Other Thoughts: This is the kind of card that any guru computer nerd needs 3 or 4 laying around for that "quick fix" computer solution. VGA, DVI, HDMI, it's versatile!
Decent
- Pros: I bought this for use in a workstation, so I can't comment on it's gaming performance. The card looks good attached to a 19" Acer HD monitor at 1440x900. Driver install was quick and painless.
- Cons: I noticed that according to NewEgg, there is no warranty on this card.
"Unfortunately, our records indicate that the manufacturer's parts warranty for this product has expired. Please contact the product manufacturer for additional service options. Unfortunately, our records indicate that the manufacturer's labor warranty for this product has expired. Please contact the product manufacturer for additional service options."
Weird, because I just got the card two days ago. So it looks like if anything happens after the 30 day NewEgg replacement period, you are out the cost of the card.
Odd, since it's a Retail boxed card.
HDMI Support
- Pros: Perfect for low-profile HTPC, HDMI-out, Hybrid Crossfire enabled, Inexpensive, 512MB, Plays 1080p video, gaming OK.
- Cons: 64-bit bus, not very OC'able, Doesn't seem to be much of an improvement over integrated video, but then I'm not much of a gamer. Nor did I run it through various benchmarks, so I cannot speak to its performance, but from reading reviews, it is questionable whether it really benefits you. It really is probably better to go with a standalone 3650 or 4350, unless you are planning on connecting 4 monitors, which I clearly am not.
- Other Thoughts: It is one of the only cards (2400PRO, 3450, 3470) that do Hybrid Crossfire with the 780g chipset. I bought it because I was curious, it seems to work well, easy setup, Crossfire was automatically enabled. For some reason ASUS "recommends" the 2400PRO according to my M3A78-EM mobo user guide, even though they are very similarly spec'ed.
Basically if it is a low-budget or low-profile build, and you have a 780g chipset, buy it. Otherwise, go for the next best one.
