4 out of 5 eggsTwo Years Later

Pros: Still keeps up with new games at high settings.

Big, burly, easy enough to install.

Actually pretty easy to disassemble and not too hard to clean.

Seems that the capacitors are near the very edge/end of the graphics card. Making installing third party coolers easier.

Cons: Fan broke after two years of not too hard gaming.

Made my computer super loud. Horrifically loud. I thought it was because of all my other computer parts and the card, but in reality, it was just the card. My computer is a whisper without the 4890 in. I had to buy a third party cooler to replace the broken fan.

Other Thoughts: So in short, after two years my fan died. Yup. Right outside of warranty. I didn't game or stress the card madly either. I gamed on my PC somewhat regularly and have other powerful computer parts to take the load off the GPU. Disassembling the card was easy and it seems to be rather simple -- making it easier to install third party coolers.

Buy a third party cooler. You'll be glad. I ordered a GV1000 Zalman.

5 out of 5 eggsbang for the buck

Pros: Got it on sale. OC gpu 1000mhz/ ram 1120mhz. Runs about 2 or 3C cooler than my 4850 and 4870. With fan set to 35%, room temp at 80F, idles 43C/load 57-60C.(I've got a 70 cfm fan blowing straight to it.)Fan noise is about the same as the his 4870 (both set to 35%), but I can feel a lot more air flow out the back. Can't beat the performance without spending a LOT more money.

Cons: High pitch fan noise over 50% is horrific. Fortunately, if you've got good airflow you shouldn't need more than 40%. If your hd cage faces the back instead of the side, you'll loose at least 1 slot with any high performance card.

Other Thoughts: I stick with ATI cards because as far as I'm concerned the small performance difference isn't worth the huge price difference.

5 out of 5 eggsAwsome Card

Pros: This thing improved some things but not alot. I upgraded from a MSI 8800gt OC 512. I was happy with the old card tell they came out with the 9s and stopped making my card so i could not SLI. Nice that with ATI i only need to have the same type not exactly the same card. Like i can Crossfire 4890 w/ 4850 if i wanted. Thats kool. So i got this card and i am going to cross it with another 4890 in a few but i dose not have to be the same card. nice!!!!

Cons: Fan is loud and i am not joking. this thing is louder then my vac.
Card is huge and thats an understatment. This thing in a mid tower case is about 1/4" away from the metal support brakets for the HD's. I would put this card in a full tower or only run one HD. I have 3 HD and had to put one in a CD bay.

Other Thoughts: Overall performance is not what i expected but it is better then my old card. Not a big jump but better. I like the fact that i have had 0 problems with windows 7 RC with the drivers. If its stable on a test os. I have NV cards on other comps with driver problems nice job ATI. Card dose not run hot at all even OC'ed it to max and still only kicked fan speed to 67%. 100% is so loud lol.

5 out of 5 eggsGood 4890

Pros: pre overclocked to 900mhz. Was able to overclock mine a bit farther to 1000mhz

2 year warranty

Cons: is a bit pricey compared to some other 4890s but got it on sale from the egg for a great price.

5 out of 5 eggsNothing special

Pros: It works and works fastly!

Cons: Only a silly one, the packaging had me fooled for a while that it didn't come with anything except the card. well, turned out there is a bot under the card that has all the other items, sure did seem like a secret compartment though :P

Other Thoughts: great performance, runs a bit hot but not enough to be a problem unless you have poor cooling in your case. Newegg
got me this and some other parts with free shipping to my house in less than 48 hrs after my purchase, beat that all those sites that take a week just to ship!

5 out of 5 eggsMakes Games Cry

Pros: Makes games cry, in Crossfire mode, makes them like little schoolgirls.

FAST. Insanely so. Crossfire worked perfectly in Windows 7.

Solid 100+FPS at 1920x1080 full max quality in all games, especially Mass Effect, is REALLY nice.

Cons: After finaggling with Windows XP and Catalyst Control Center, if you get an error to shut off 3D programs or video playback no matter whether you are running anything or not, simply uninstall and reinstall and reboot a couple times. After that headache, works just as well as it did in Windows 7.

Other Thoughts: the 5xxx ATI cards are coming out in July, I'll be buying the equivalent 5890 or similar when it is out. ATI usually puts out (like they did with the 4870) a basic enthusiast card, and a couple months later puts out the final distilled card. this card supports DX10.1, the 5xxx series will support DX11

5 out of 5 eggsActually very quiet card

Pros: Card was very easy to install and ends up being quieter than the 4830 that I took out. Allthough it is audible it's not obnoxious. I had a BFG card once that sounded just like my Vacuum cleaner. My wife thought I was running it in my office. This card is very tame in comparison.

Cons: Not the fastest card in the world but runs Crysis and CODWAW at very high settings. Maxed out WIC. Gets 13223 on 3DMark Vantage, included with the card BTW.

Other Thoughts: None

5 out of 5 eggsGood Card, little loud though

Pros: Great performance. I am able to max out the settings on just about every game. Prototype, Mirrors Edge, TF2 and Mirrors Edge all play smoothly with all the graphics settings turned up to the maximum.

Cons: LOUD. I have this in a P182 case, and even then this thing is crazy loud. If you want a quieter card, consider an aftermarket cooler or a different card.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Got this card for crossfireX mode. Card runs great, no problem yet.

Cons: Was dissappointed when I got it in my hands on it and found out that this was an open box product. Got the last customer rma and info in the box. Got me curious to why they returned this card. Seller could of atleast discounted. When I buy something like this I would atleast expect it be new or be told that it's been used.

4 out of 5 eggsyoull need to configure this manually

Pros: runs good after editing settings
plays crysis @ 1680-1050 8AA 16AF high on my rig read other thoughts
runs windows 7 direct x 11 just fine after editing settings
going to cross fire i will post another when i have used it more

Cons: when you run this card with anything in direct x 10 or up you will need to edit timings for vertical and horizontal sync the CCC program does not do it for you and you will get really nasty sync lines everywhere it does only happen between 59-70C before 59c its perfect but in the 60s the picture is really nasty and lots of refresh lines, but after 70c its clear and that made me think i had a bad card but it just was the sync settings so if you are getting this just edit the timings for sync in CCC
you have to unlock the card to change fan speed and when you unlock the card it voids you warranty so if you are looking to run manual speed for the fan this may not be the card for you
this is not clocked @ 1000 this did not affected me as that is new eggs mistake this card is 901 but can be a con if that is why you bought it

Other Thoughts: using amd phenom II X4 955BE
8GB DDR3 ram 1066
ASUS M4A79T Deluxe
seagate 1.5tb
SAPPHIRE 4890 OC-901 1GB
22 inch hdmi or vga 1680-1050-60
i normally use vga

this got 4 eggs because i had to configure the sync settings
my 8800 worked just fine with this screen at same res on same computer
