5 out of 5 eggsbeautiful, quiet, nice

Pros: Fast, quiet. Less power draw than a 4870 or a 4870x2 or 2x 4870. Newer. 2GB video ram will pay off for DX11 games. DX10.1 support = partial DX11 support.

Cons: Big card, uses 2 6 pins.

Other Thoughts: 5870 is around the corner so might not be worthwhile to everyone considering DX11 should up graphics quality a lot with tessellation.

5 out of 5 eggsGTAIV results

Pros: 2gb makes all the difference in this game. Many like my son had 4870X2 with crashes left and right. Suggest changing the viewing distance until you have this card. With this card I can turn all the eye candy on and with my AMD 965 a GTAIV machine is born without spending $1500 like an I7.

Cons: Crossfire was not needed for this game. Hoping more games support crossfire. Seems like they don't. Sli was the same waste. Except for crysis I have nothing that uses more than 1 card. Must turn up fans to 75% to keep cool for extended gameplay. Noise is not too bad. My UPS is now too small at 750VA. Need a 1200 and up, ouch.

Other Thoughts: If you must have NVida I suggest the amd 965 with the new ddr3 980a msi board and then some gtx 275 1796mb cards. A pair of those is around $600. A pair of these is around $500. I paid $245 on sale here at the egg.

5 out of 5 eggsCrosshair III watchout!!!

Pros: Great card. Very fast. love the LED. All around a sweet and Sexy GPU.

Cons: Dosn't work with the Crosshair III motherboard because of the onboard sound card. If U want to run the 2 gig card you have to use the 2nd pci slot because of the heat sink on top of the card gets in the way.

5 out of 5 eggscant decide

Pros: Great looking card. sounds like a steal compared to nvidia prices.

Cons: dont know yet.

Other Thoughts: Any Warranty by the manufacturer? newegg doesnt tell you :(

its either this or an nvidia card which gives a lifetime warranty. thats hard to pass up if you dont buy vid cards every series release, and if saphire isnt slow as mud about shipping another one

4 out of 5 eggsWell Done ATI

Pros: To explain the 4890 series really is like xp over me or windows 7 over vista... when the 4870's came out they were hotter, used more power and broke quickly. The 4890 however uses less power stays within safer temp's and performs well with the frame boost of direct x 10.1 support.
Its comming down in price slowly.. Its faster than a $400 Nvidia eqivilent. Its deffinately got some longevity in crossfire with two of these and a total of 4gb DDR5 memory. Deffinately a financial and performance no brainer over the 5000 series with not so major DX 11 updates for windows 7 due shortly. But currently a 3850 512mb card runs windows 7 with no hiccups. Basically if you want to play games or render large HD video with most settings maxxed and the lasting power of possibly buying a second card when main stream games even require one!?. BUY THIS CARD! If you have lots of money buy 3 and have one framed to look at around the house when you need a pick me up! just think longterm and its a steal.

Cons: Only a few games use anywhere near 2gb of memory (not really a con) but if your penny pinching and not interested in a great longterm buy this would be a con.
It is large and does require a 500w power supply. Dont listen to the power hungry gamer kids you can run this card and your system effectivly standard or overclocked with the sub $70 500w Modular OCZ supply on Newegg! thats the only real reason for getting this card over the 2gb 4870 is its lower power consumption , heat and a few mhz.
I duzent like small cases or weak airflow you have been warned.
The Vapor x heatsink system sticks out and makes it a wide card for those using boards with SATA connectors grouped anywhere near or inline with the PCI express slot. an example would be any micro atx Gigabyte board (remedy with right angle SATA cables)
I wouldent reccommend messing with the fan speed which is allowed in Catalyst Center on this version easy to cook the card but it does have safety features for mistakes!

Other Thoughts: The software with this card is useless just throw it in the trash. I favor the ati/amd website serch for either in google to find your drivers.(perks are newest releases and AMD has produced a great little app with this card that allows you to stop all the resource hungry microsoft apps running in the background when gaming or benchmarking with your card). very well done ATI/AMD. Overclocking this card is not suggested due to the vapor x technology which may be quiet and coolish at stock but gets overwhelmed easier than blind ladyboy in a wiener factory when overclocking.
Recycled box.
the little blue led light is pretty if you like that.

5 out of 5 eggscrossfire x review

Pros: Got 2nd card today and with amd 965, ddr 3 790fx msi gd70 obtained 48 fps avg very high with all AA turned on & vertical sync Crysis 1.21 with 58 fps maximum. I got the 2gb model for GTA IV and future games. The other games I have use less video ram. I resell systems so this gives me firsthand an alternative for my customers to Intel/NVidia in a down economy.

Cons: Some of my games like css do not use crosfire x. Will be testing GTAIV this weekend. My son insists it only uses one card. Does not auto select very high or enthusiast in crysis or warhead. But runs great compared to my single gtx 285 I gave to my younger son for his wolfdale.

Other Thoughts: I wanted to test crossfire 4890 OC with the newer am3 965 since none of the reviews on the web have that so far. I was not disappointed for the money. Had I gone the other way it would have been an I7 3.0 bloomfield with a gtx 285 2gb card for GTAIV. The new I7's use only dual channel ram. Really happy with my dragon system so far.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: cost, performance, quiet compared to my EX! gtx280,and above all video quality quality

Cons: I can't crossfire on my board as I am on nvidia platform for now, but then again I don't need to with this

Other Thoughts: I have been using Nvidia since the 8800gtx came out and I used them in sli, I then went to gtx280 AND THEN... I built my daughter a basic gaming rig with an ati hd 3870 and was blown away at the graphics quality compared to mine then built a customer a custom gaming pc with ati , again the video quality was great so I finally decided to buy a used one of these and am sold!! the video quality is so far ahead my eyes don't strain on reading as much and fps on games has skyrocketed using same settings. I am now an ati guy unless they screw up, It's all about cost per what you get and this far excedes anything ive had.
Goof friend saw mine and is switching to these now

5 out of 5 eggsCrossfire next

Pros: Ordered my 2nd card to crossfire. My son has 2 4870 2gb and they are pushing his crysis with amd 940 very fast with all the eye candy. So knowing that I am doing the same but with 4890s. I bought 2gb cards due to complaints with GTAIV using 1.5 ram and buying $400 nvidia cards is nuts.

Cons: $20 more than the powercolor I like at 950mhz but it only has 1gb per card. The 2gb model is still not on the shelves. Most games won't use the 2gb but in the future they might. So far only GTAIV is only one I know of that does. Uses less juice than a 4870X2 which locks up in GTAIV. My oldest son traded up to 2 4870 2gb cards from Saphire and got rid of that issue.

Other Thoughts: I love this card for the quietness and the fact that 2 in crossfire is the same fps in most cases as a gtx 295 and in some games even faster if they favor ATI. My son has a GTX295 and it is noisy as the 4870X2 and gets very hot. These cards do not. His only has 896mb for $500. So I feel I get a better deal having 2 2gb cards for that price.

5 out of 5 eggswow

Pros: This thing is amazing. It's pretty big, but native HDMI and Displayport is freakin fantastic. It runs cool, we're talking 55c and below under load with proper ventilation.

Cons: wish I could afford 2

Other Thoughts: Remember that a lot of DirectX11 will be available with 10.1 (aka ATI) and not with Directx10 (aka nvidia)...so keep that in mind. Meanwhile, Directx11 sounds like it will be expensive. Folks, buy whoever you like as far as ATI/AMD or Nvidia, but don't believe the hype. Neither is outright "superior".
