Sapphire brings the power of graphics ‘supercomputing’ to enthusiasts with their Vapor-X Radeon HD 4890 card. Built on Sapphire's original Vapor Chamber Technology, this card will bring the benefits of Vapor-X cooling - quieter and more efficient cooling - to a wider range of users.
This versatile and powerful card has 2GB of high-performance GDDR5 memory, clocked at 870MHz, and the GPU core is clocked at 1050MHz. Supporting AMD CrossFireX technology, two high-speed connectors on each card allow two or more cards to be used together for enhanced performance when installed in a CrossFireX compatible motherboard.
The Radeon HD 4890 incorporates the latest ATI Avivo HD Technology for enhanced video display, and features a second generation built-in UVD 2 (Unified Video decoder 2) for the hardware accelerated decoding of Blu-ray and HD DVD content for VC-1, H.264 and MPEG-2 codecs, reducing CPU load. The card’s HDMI and DisplayPort connectors supports multi-channel audio formats (up to 7.1) and combines audio and video output on a single cable for direct connection to an HDMI ready or DisplayPort ready display. Support for DirectX10.1 ensures optimal compatibility with all DirectX10.1 applications and enables stunning 3D graphics and shading effects in the latest DirectX10.1 games.

Building the Blue Beast
- Pros: Solid card with 2 GB. Good OC for the type of card this is. Love the blue LEDs! Also, I like how this card has native HDMI and also a native Display Port, so, no adapters needed and I dont trust using an included DVI to HDMI adapter anyway when I can use a native port instead.
- Cons: None really. I see people saying that the card doesn't come with an 8 pin cable, just two 6 pins instead. Well, if you have a PSU that has an 8 pin and a 6 pin then you're already set. If not, call the company and they'll send you an 8 pin out for nothing! Why are you deducting eggs for this? Has nothing to do with how this card performs. To the person below who says you need a 750 watt PSU for only one card, WHAT? I have 2 of these in CrossFire and I'm using a 750 watt PSU running both cards! And have plenty of wattage left over. Look at the specs, it says you only need 600 watts for running two of these. Of course, it also depends on what else you're running on your system too, but a 750 PSU is plenty for most people running 2 of these cards.
- Other Thoughts: Search for 'extreme power supply calculator' and you'll see how to find the total wattage your system needs. It calculated I only needed a 650 or so PSU, so 750 is plenty extra for me. Make sure you have plenty of amps for the 12V rails also. I have 25 amps on all 4 of my rails so I'm good to go.
Also, people need to check how wide their space is between PCI Express slots before they order this card, you can plainly see in the pics that it has fins on the back for extra cooling so allow for it. They fit just fine on my Intel DX58SO!
Case: Antec Skeleton using the 'blue' LED fan PSU: Antec True Power Blue 750 w/ 'blue' LED fan Motherboard: Intel i7 DX50SO 'Smackover' CPU: Intel i7 975 3.33 Extreme Bloomfield w/ 'blue' CPU fan Vidcards: 2 Sapphire 4890 2 GB in CrossFire, w/ 'blue' LEDs Ram: Crucial Ballistix Tracers 6 GB 1600 OCed to 1866, w/ 'blue' LEDs! 2 WD HDDs in Raid 0, Intel SSD 160 GB, 'blue' lighted mouse and keyboard, 'blue' LCD Aerogate display, etc, etc.
Incredible
- Pros: As if it's not already blisteringly fast, I used CCC to auto-tune it to 940Mhz clock and 1065Mhz on the RAM... and it can go faster! This thing is insane, the vapor-x system is quiet and super efficient... allowing a lot of room for OC'ing. I know I can get more out of the RAM, but right now it's doing everything I want it too and it's not putting out much heat. Using manual fan settings, I keep it going at 65% power and it's hardly audible.
- Cons: Blue LED... everything else in my case is green. But really, that's not even a con. I would say it's expensive, but honestly I got everything I paid for... so in that regard it's not expensive.
- Other Thoughts: Good thing it is so fast, I don't think my wallet can justify running 2 of these right now... maybe in another month or so. Also, if you plan on getting this, make sure your Power Supply is big enough to handle it. For reference, I'm using a mushkin 800W PS and it's perfect for all that I've got stuffed in my PC (4 HDD, DVD, AM3 Phenom II, this vid card, a ton of fans, and some other goodies too).

beautiful, quiet, nice
- Pros: Fast, quiet. Less power draw than a 4870 or a 4870x2 or 2x 4870. Newer. 2GB video ram will pay off for DX11 games. DX10.1 support = partial DX11 support.
- Cons: Big card, uses 2 6 pins.
- Other Thoughts: 5870 is around the corner so might not be worthwhile to everyone considering DX11 should up graphics quality a lot with tessellation.
GTAIV results
- Pros: 2gb makes all the difference in this game. Many like my son had 4870X2 with crashes left and right. Suggest changing the viewing distance until you have this card. With this card I can turn all the eye candy on and with my AMD 965 a GTAIV machine is born without spending $1500 like an I7.
- Cons: Crossfire was not needed for this game. Hoping more games support crossfire. Seems like they don't. Sli was the same waste. Except for crysis I have nothing that uses more than 1 card. Must turn up fans to 75% to keep cool for extended gameplay. Noise is not too bad. My UPS is now too small at 750VA. Need a 1200 and up, ouch.
- Other Thoughts: If you must have NVida I suggest the amd 965 with the new ddr3 980a msi board and then some gtx 275 1796mb cards. A pair of those is around $600. A pair of these is around $500. I paid $245 on sale here at the egg.
Crosshair III watchout!!!
- Pros: Great card. Very fast. love the LED. All around a sweet and Sexy GPU.
- Cons: Dosn't work with the Crosshair III motherboard because of the onboard sound card. If U want to run the 2 gig card you have to use the 2nd pci slot because of the heat sink on top of the card gets in the way.
