- Pros: DX11. low power consumption and heat which is great for me since my room gets really hot when i use my computer. I purchased it before prices went up to adjust for supply and demand. YAY me. I am able to play my new games that my integrated GPU coudl not handle.
- Cons: High cost for quality, but the DX11 which may or not be usable is there price point. DX11 requires Windows 7 and Microsoft intentionally made it difficult to get DX11 to work with Vista. Drivers do not work well, i get break lines when windows starts up and in some games. Playing movies sometimes gets choppy and some colors blur (only rarely) Somthigns to do with pink and purples. Some movies play a high pitched noise when people talk. This doesn't happen with my integrated graphics card and only occures during movies, games play with respect to this. My first one would fail when settings were placed higher than the lowest. Once I RMA'ed it the new one works with games at highest settings. Cost of RMA :(. GPU is so long that it blocks air flow so i have to leave the side of the case open to allow air flow. Overall I would be happy if they just fixed the drivers so i can properly use my GPU.
Possibly a bad one.
- Pros: Could be a great card for the money. Other than the con below I love it and would give it a 5.
- Cons: In both XP and Linux, if I do a dead cold boot (like in the morning) it will either lock up the OS (Linux) or put large diffused dots on the desktop or both (XP).
After it warms up a bit it seems to run fine and I can shut down and boot up without incident.
I've had to set grub to wait 1 minute to let the thing warm up before launching an OS.
- Other Thoughts: This is NOT the vacuum tube age so this is unacceptable.
Considering sending it back for another but not sure I can pull it off before Christmas. (this was part of a system for my kids)
Yes, I'm using the latest drivers.
Cutting edge
- Pros: Directx 11, eyefinity, great performance, great overclocker. I liked that the heatsink and fan was completely enclosed to keep gpu heat directed out the rear of the case. If you want a cutting edge video card at the best price, this is your ticket. If you are running windows 7 and have this card you should be future proof for a little while at least.
- Cons: Price. I am not saying the price is not justified, but it performs in between a 4850/4870 except it has more features. If your looking for absolute highest framerate at the lowest cost, this is not your video card.
- Other Thoughts: On an AMD 550BE unlocked to a quad core at 3.1ghz I scored 16784 on 3dmark06. with my 3.7ghz sempron it still scored 11,187 and averaged some really nice framerates.
