5 out of 5 eggsGreat card, lasted a while

Pros: Very quite card, has very good overclocking headroom. I hit 775, fan at 50% and temps running 46 max. I put the fan at 50% because at that speed I cannot hear it over my case fans.

Cons: It was expensive when I bought it compared to what you can get now.

Other Thoughts: Very nice overall, will buy sapphire again.

5 out of 5 eggs5850 rules

Pros: This card is great, cool running, and can OC like crazy. It maxes out any game i throw at it, crysis/warhead, Civ V, DA origins, ext all on max @ 1680 by 1050 res.

Cons: The thing is long but it easily fit in my antec 900 case.

Other Thoughts: I received this card when my reference Sapphire 5850 fan went out. Sapphire has really nice tech support people and, replaced my card without question.

2 out of 5 eggssapphire junk

Pros: It ran for 6 months and was good while it lasted high frame rates and quiet.

Cons: I would consider it a benefit that this card is discontinued. This card died on me in less than 6 months. Paying 280 for a card that last only six months is a disgrace from Sapphire. To get it fixed requires paying for shipment and other charges perhaps.

The fan went to 100 percent and stayed contanstly on and it would no longer reboot with the computer, terrible quality control. This is my second sapphire in a lifetime that has had failing fans/components.done that. I will never buy a sapphire again.

Other Thoughts: Thanks to Sapphire I moved over to Nvidia. I've never been happier got a EVGA gtx460 as a test move to them. The 3D vision is amazing on 3D monitor/projector! Something I've wanted on ATI for years and the drivers menus/configuration are so nice and organized.

5 out of 5 eggsRuns like a champ in my Gateway

Pros: Easy to install. Loaded drivers from the included disc with no problems. Makes it possible to crank up the graphics on every game I have tried thus far. Finally I can run Crysis on max settings with 2X AA and 8X AF and get very playable frame rates. Man, that game looks incredible with the graphics boosted. I have been wanting a 5850 card since they came out...glad I waited until this card dropped in price to $180! Seems to work fine with my stock piece of junk 500W generic PSU.

Cons: Dumps most of the hot air back into my already under-ventilated case. Also, it is HUGE at 11+ inches long! I was worried it would not fit into my case but it fit with no issues. Looks like this sku was also discontinued right after I received my card. :(

Other Thoughts: Without breaking the bank, I wanted to upgrade from the HD 4850 that came stock with my Gateway FX6800-01e box. I was worried that my feeble stock PSU would not handle this card, but so far it is working great. To complete the upgrade, I also purchased a Corsair 650W PSU, which I have not installed yet. I am not going to attempt any overclocking until I dump in the new PSU. My 3DMark 06 scores increased from around 12500 with the HD 4850 to just under 16000 with the HD 5850. I was expecting a bit more, but I am pretty sure it is being restricted a bit by the stock 2.66 GHz speed on my i7-920, as well as the relatively slow PC8500 DDR3 1066MHz memory (6GB installed) that Gateway saw fit to put into this PC. ATI really hit the sweet spot with this card and Sapphire is always my brand of choice! I imagine this card will keep me fragging for a long time to come.

5 out of 5 eggsPrice Drop!

Pros: Well how about a OC of 955c/1175m??? Not to bad at all since this is a huge OC!!! Runs great and after stress tests didnt go over 80c with the fan at 70% with that clock. Runs much cooler without the OC but I like to push it. Have this in a crossfire setup. My other card is a Sapphire and it does 940c/1150m and runs 4c cooler than this one I just bought.

Cons: Most newer games take advantage of xfire, but some older game dont work quite right. I play new games mainly!

5 out of 5 eggsBest bang for the buck

Pros: After thoroughly researching graphics cards, I decided to go with the ATI 5850 over the GTX 460. I am happy I made this choice. WoW and SC2 run very smooth for me on high graphics settings. Hottest it gets is about 50 C.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I've overclocked the card using just the ATI utility and it has been very stable. Even at 50 degrees the fan is not audible over my case fans.

5 out of 5 eggsThis thing is a monster

Pros: Really impressed with the power behind this thing. Destroys everything I throw at it. I've been able to run the latest games (Starcraft II, Civilization V, Dragon Age Origins, etc...) at max settings, max AA, at 1080p resolution, no problem. And that's all on the stock clock settings.

Cons: The only problem I've had with this card is not the card itself, but of course ATi's drivers. I've only had one crash that was related to the gpu, but the new driver update has caused my computer on every reboot to always revert the scaling to default, giving me black borders that I must readjust. It's not a big deal, just annoying. If you find it too annoying, revert your driver back to version 10.

Was $300 when I got it too :(

Other Thoughts: Basically, if you want a gaming card that's got more power than the 460 but not as expensive as say, the 5870 or 470, this is your choice to get. Or just wait until the 6000 series comes out, I suppose.

3 out of 5 eggsToo Bad ATI Drivers are needed

Pros: See above

Cons: CCC 10.8 and 10.9 have a scaling problem with this card in 1080 mode. After each boot you must readjust the scaling (which revert to under scale every time). Problem is well documented and solution is to unistall drivers and use 10.6
