2 out of 5 eggsUnstable

Pros: Fast!
Stock Overclock!
I was able to run Cysis, Just Cause 2, Splinter Cell Conviction, BFBC2, GTAIV, with all the settings at maximum at an excellent framerate.

Cons: Although the games would run, I was constantly getting freezing in the games, BFBC2 would consistently crash after a few hours of playing. The freeze would be gradual. The screen would flash & then the sound would begin to loop. Finally the system would freeze. I monitored the temperatures with GPU-Z and the cards never exceeded 85c. I have a Corsair 750TX PSU so I could rule out power issues. Ultimately, I believe the issue was driver and/or hardware.

5 out of 5 eggsAWESOME CARD

Pros: The card is a BEAST. I'm running everything Max on my PC and nothing slows this thing down!. On top of that the card with its Vapor X cooling stays SUPER COOL. On idle the card sits at 32c. On full load it doesn't go above 50C >:O. Thats only with 50% fan speed. And its super QUIET @ 50% too.

Cons: No Cons but a warning to anyone whose reading. I did come across a problem with the card. But that might have been my fault for doing so. When you get the card and you download your drivers and etc. When you get into CCC, DO NOT, i repeat, DO NOT set the AAMODE to SUPER SAMPLING. This will create massive amounts of Frame Lag. Most people don't even mess with the CCC Settings but if you're like me and have an eye for grahpics. Leave that setting alone.

If you're experiencing FPS issues, this is most likely the problem. It might be because of my CPU? Don't know XD But no stars taken!

Other Thoughts: Card is HUGE, but not big enough, doesn't even come close to being big when it sits in my HAF 932. I would recommend you do research and measuring your Case if you don't have a Full Tower.

I recommend this to EVERYONE. I don't know how anyone could have issues with this card. Its monstrous.

Cooler Master HAF 932
AMD Phenom II X4 965 @ 3.6Ghz (27c Idle, 40 Full Load)
Sapphire Toxic 5870 2GB (No OC)
Noctua NH-D14 CPU Cooler

Runs like a Champ.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat upgrade

Pros: Factory overclocked.
Vapor X cooling.

Cons: Didn't come with a free game.

Other Thoughts: Upgrading from a Sapphire Vapor X 4870. Didn't have any issues with that card. But, I was waiting for 2GB version of this card. Planning on upgrading from 22" to 25" monitors. Extra memory helps with gaming at higher resolutions. This card is about an inch longer than my old 4870.

Installed Fraps and most of my games don't drop below 60fps(guessing that is the highest is goes for the free version) with everything maxed. Reinstalled Crysis and ran the benchmark with everything maxed. Averaged 47fps.

I was thinking about the person with the network issue after installing this card. Might be a chattering NIC caused by a I/O conflict somewhere. Which wouldn't be an issue with the video card. Re-install the OS, update the BIOS or both. Also, check to see if card is fully seated. Newegg has forums for these types of issues. Please do not give products a low rating unless you are 100% it deserves it.

1 out of 5 eggsPotential Major Issue!

Pros: Fast when it didn't GSOD on me.

Cons: It runs no cooler than my Sapphire reference 5870. Grey Screen's of Death every time I play L4D2 and Boarderlands.

This is where the "Potential Major Issue" comes in. The card (at least mine) renders my Verizon FIOS M1424WR routers wireless inoperable. I know, I know! Sounds ridiculous but I have 100% confirmed this. See other thoughts.

Other Thoughts: After install my wireless on my HP printer dropped. At the time I thought nothing of it and thought the wireless receiver went bad.

Later my wife grabbed the laptop to use and she said I have no internet. I checked into it and sure enough nothing. Tried my iPhone, same story. I messed around trying to get it to work but to no avail. I called Verizon and they overnighted me a new router.

I got the new router and the same thing happened.

To make a long story short I spent hours trouble shooting and found that when my PC was off wireless worked on all my devices.

To test this I streamed music from my server to my laptop to see what would happen. As soon as I turned the PC on Bam! No music, no wireless. Turned the PC off and wireless comes back. Right there I knew what was causing it. I removed the video card and put my reference 5870 back in. Started the PC back up and wireless to all my devices worked.

Needless to say I will be RMAing it and contacting Sapphire about the

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Card!

Pros: Was lucky enough to get one before it went out of stock. Been waiting for it for awhile. Decided on this instead of GTX 480, because I felt that it was a better card overall (more efficiently built in terms of heat and power consumption, while still delivering great performance).

What can I say? It's FAST! It's got 2GB of vram! It's DX11 capable! It's got a great cooler! It's factory overclocked with a warranty! See other thoughts for more info.

Cons: Fan is slightly annoying, but definitely bearable!

Other Thoughts: I'm going from an EVGA GTX 275 SuperClocked Edition to this. Very pleased with the performance increase.

Crysis went from 23-30 FPS (1920x1200 High settings 0AA; GTX 275) to 45-50 FPS (same settings; HD 5870 Toxic). Went from 14-17 FPS (1920x1200 Very High settings 0AA; GTX 275) to 25-30 FPS (same settings; HD 5870 Toxic).

in Street Fighter 4 1920x1200 all settings maxed, GTX 275 got 69.33 FPS Avg., while the HD 5870 Toxic with same settings got 144.68 FPS Avg. Awesome!

In Fallout 3 I occasionally got slowdown on High settings @ 1680x1050 0AA with GTX 275. HD 5870 Toxic on Ultra High settings @ 1920x1200 8xAA, no lag at all!

Batman Arkham Asylum everything maxed @1920x1200, absolutely no slow down at all! Simply wonderful to say the least.

Some say 2GB of vram is overkill. I think it's good for FUTURE games with more demanding requirements. Good investment IMO.

My system:
Phenom II X4 955 @ 3.2GHZ (stock)
8GB DDR3 1333
HAF 922 Case (Size of card was

5 out of 5 eggsjust ordered & charged, review to follow

Pros: More headrom for extreme oc'ing well over 1000MHz core. Better cooling than stock, produces less db's with high fan settings.

Definitely will have more to say with follow up.

Cons: 1. Not a TOXIC 5970 4GB.

2. Don't have another TOXIC 5870 2GB to CrossFIREX.

3. Can't justify buying an extra one of these to crossfirex

4. Prices are only going up?(

Other Thoughts: I rma'd a 5970 OC 2GB for replacement and received a refund. Also rma'd DFI lp jr for a refund & rma'd AII for replacement, I'm waiting for the cpu'd remplacement. However, I'm contemplating to uprgade the cpu as soon as there are new PII BE's released, possibly 1 of those will be going into this as a upgrade as well.

5 out of 5 eggsFast Card

Pros: This is the fastest single GPU from ATI. Sapphire did a nice job doing some factory OC to 925. Vapor-X is a nice cooling solution.

Cons: This card (using the default settings) is a bit noisier than I expected. In all fairness, the computer room has usually an ambient temp of 82F and I got 2 of these cards in XF. But the default profile ramps up the fan too fast to keep this card cool. I have successfully ameliorated the sound by using MSI afterburner to change the fan profile. It idles now at 60F (instead of 45F) with a fan load of 30% but both cards are virtually silent. Under load I change the profile to keep it at 80F (at which time the fan is usually at 50% to 60% load). Oh, I have a Thermaltake Armor+ full case.

Other Thoughts: I am using these in XF. I have to use 2 slots further apart to allow for proper cooling. Surprisingly low power consumption when idle (which makes me very happy). I use these cards in XF for eyefinity (3 monitors). The drivers work ok but there are kinks to be worked out for sure. Eyefinity is great and I am probably not going back to single monitor gaming. 2 Toxic cards in eyefinity (3*1920x1200) gives me great framerate in most games (Supreme commander 2 with 4xAA, crysis with settings on medium, assassin's creed 2 with 4XAA). I suppose that 2Gb memory / card helps with the eyefinity resolutions and AA. With the exception of some driver issues, I am happy for choosing 2x5870 vs 1x5870.
