1 out of 5 eggsBad.

Pros: When it worked, it worked well. See below.

Cons: The problem is that when it wasn't working well, as mentioned above, it was busy blue-screening, black-screening or just putting vertical lines on the screen, all of which required a cold boot. This would happen about once or twice every hour, seemingly for no apparent reason. Very disappointing, especially because one of the principal reasons I bought this card was that it was manufactured by AMD, the same manufacturer of the processor and the mobo's chip set. I figured (incorrectly) that they would all play nice together. No such luck. I even tried two OS's, Win 7 and XP - same result regardless.
About a month ago, I replaced the card with an nVidia GTX 560Ti. I have not had a single problem since then, and the computer is rockin' fast! Bye-bye ATI... never again...

Other Thoughts: How does NewEgg get this stuff to my door so fast every time??

5 out of 5 eggsBeast

Pros: The card is made extremely well, the parts are durable and it is easy to install. On idle, this card actually uses less power than my previous factory overclocked 4870. I really liked the simplicity of the sapphire trixx software, much better than the bloated catalyst suite. The fan control is perfect on the software as well. I ran furmark at it for hours and on my fan profile the card never saw anything higher than 73 degrees. That is very respectable in my books, considering that the card can handle much more.

Cons: The only drawbacks are that the stock fan settings are really low, and the card does get a little hot if you leave them on those settings. Easy to fix with trixx.
The other thing that I can think of is that the clock/memory settings are a little finicky when changing from idle to under load, they don't always seem to correspond to the actual load being placed upon it.

5 out of 5 eggsJust wow! overkill?

Pros: WOW currently have 2 of these in cross fire. Everything is fast!

Cons: none yet

Other Thoughts: These will set you up for anything you can throw at them and more. They look nice and match my internal color scheme.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card

Pros: Great card, and works great in Linux (Ubuntu) with the catalyst driver provided through ATI. Has taken everything I can throw at it without breaking a sweat.

Cons: Large card.

Other Thoughts: Doesn't come with latest drivers, need to update right away on Windows 7 or get green screen. However, after installing latest drivers no problems at all.

5 out of 5 eggsVery nice

Pros: I have two of these in Cross fire and it's honestly overkill. I think 1 would do everything I need it to, but as an MMO gamer, I don't want any bottlenecks. Playing Rift and WoW with all video settings on max does nothing to these cards.

Setup
AMD 1100T Thuban
ASUS Crosshair IV Formula
4 Gb GSkill Flare
2x Sapphire HD 6870 Radeon
Thermaltake SpinQ CPU fan
Thermaltake element case (w/850W PSU)

Cons: Takes up two slots. Not really a con specifically for me, but might be an issue for someone wanting to use other expansion slots.

Other Thoughts: In reference to my setup. Running these cards in crossfire with the bottom case PSU and my mobo puts the second card right up against the PSU enclosure. I knew it was going to be a tight fit going in to the build and it just meant I had to manage every cable closely (even the power switch, reset switch and hd led wires. Something to keep in mind when you're looking at the cards that take up two slots.

In any event, if you're new to building, save putting in the video cards until last, they just get in the way with nearly everything else.

5 out of 5 eggsRock solid

Pros: Pretty quiet on idle, Vapor X works as advertised
Power connectors on top
Trixx software available on download for Sapphire
Pricing matches performance

Cons: Package contents are very standard other than HDMI cable

Card is heavy -- not unexpected

Other Thoughts: tracked temps while playing Civ v on full graphics DX11, no issues, fan kept temps below 70

will get second card for CF........

Q9650, Window 7 Ultimate x64
8Gb Kingston DDR3

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible

Pros: High core clock

Cons: fan speed set to 40% stock.

green screens out of the box (card failures)

After turning the fan up to 100% no more green screens but it does fail to render sides of buildings at certain angles.

Other Thoughts: the 6870 comes at 900mhz the toxic comes at 970mhz the overclock isnt that great but to ship this with a default 40% fan speed is not good. It is overclocked and the fan should have been turned up from the start. I suspect that the initial heat exchange with 40% fan may have done permanent damage to this card. While the card isn't DOA I consider it LOA (Limping On Arrival).

For the price of this card I should not have these kinds of issues. I accepted this kind of stuff when $50 was a lot for a card ( a long time ago). I refuse to accept these standards from a card this expensive, I suggest buying a different card.
