5 out of 5 eggsUse these in cheap builds

Pros: Low power draw. Good for cheap builds.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I don't like to use integrated graphics on any of my builds. So for people who aren't going to be gaming or using ps I like to throw these in their system.

4 out of 5 eggsWorked fine until it didn't.

Pros: I liked that this GPU produces so little heat that it can be operated without a fan. The heat sink on it was not very extensive, either. The pictures it produced were just fine. I did not use it for much 3D video gaming.

Cons: After a bit more than a year of operation, my computer failed to boot one day. When I pulled the video card and used the built-in video, it booted fine. My replacement card didn't work,at first, but I pulled the Firewire card and then it worked again. I wonder if the Firewire card was the problem rather than the video card.

Other Thoughts: This is an inexpensive but serviceable option if your motherboard lacks video capabilities.

5 out of 5 eggsABSOLUTELY EXCEPTIONAL VALUE

Pros: This is my 3rd card - for a 3rd computer. The first I've had for 2 years, the second for a year. And I will likely pick up one more as a spare. This is an ideal home theater card, with hdmi and nice hdmi sound. I successfully support a 50 foot hdmi cable on the installation in the sunroom. (It's a good quality cable from (the river) reduced from about $80 that I got for about 50.) This card can run the original Far Cry, 1600x1200 (that's the same pixel count as 1080p) at ultra settings at around 35 fps, which surprised me. (Not custom ultra where you can tweak the AA even further.) But that was just playing around - I didn't pick it up for gaming.

Cons: Not really a con - but this is a passive card - if you really stress it with lots of gaming I suppose it might heat up - too hot and you'd have to add a fan - not hard to do if you have a spare molex connector. Another item - because hdmi sound is included - your motherboard could kick out the on-board sound - see other thoughts. I see there is a rebate. Great - if the mail loses my paperwork no problem, but I usually always get the rebates.

Other Thoughts: I have one of these in an i7 running the 50 foot hdmi cable. Trick - put a 100% (no zoom) magnifying glass window 2" by 2" on lower right of desktop, to track the mouse when it moves over to the extended desktop 1080p TV across the room - that way you don't have to try to read from across the room - it's all right there in the magnifying glass window. That makes it easy to start a power dvd 13 video on the desktop, slide it over to the TV, then go to the tv, and in your window, right-click "full-screen" again, without squinting from across the room. Slide the player window back before you shut everything down, or you will will wonder where Power dvd went. My i7 allows me to switch between hdmi sound, or on-board sound if the tv is off and I'm playing iTunes. The compaq microtower defaults to hdmi-only regarding the sound, but recently somebody said that when this card is installed - check bios for "on-board sound enable" which option will appear only when the card is installed. So I'll find that out this time.

3 out of 5 eggsgood card but gets very hot

Pros: its a very good card for the price. plug and play, very easy to install for anyone.

Cons: however, card gets very hot due to the fact that it doesn't have a fan. but cards does what its worth the price, for my 13 years old daughters cp. I just attached a small fan on to the card and it stay cool enough.

Other Thoughts: for the price, its worth the upgrade graphic

3 out of 5 eggsNice low cost card

Pros: Low cost card for a low end system, works just fine at 2560 x 1440. Not used for gaming, so speed is not an issue.

Cons: None really.

Other Thoughts: Annoyed that Sapphire stiffed me on the rebate. A few weeks after I registered the rebate info online and mailed the forms, they send me a message saying they haven't received the paperwork yet. Well its not worth my time & trouble to resubmit for $10. I will reward Sapphire by not purchasing any more of their stuff.

2 out of 5 eggsTerrible

Pros: Um.. It plays 720p video? That's pretty much it.

Cons: I got this for $100 a while back expecting a good card to play moderate gaming on. I wanted it to at least run TF2 at 720p 60 fps, but it can't even do that. It runs it on an average of 34 fps on the lowest settings on AN EMPTY SERVER AND A STOCK MAP. This card is the worst. Don't buy it. Just save your money for a card that can do something.

3 out of 5 eggsA step backwards

Pros: Quiet

Cons: Subpar performance and tech support.

Other Thoughts: I wanted a card that output 1080p HDMI, for business applications and photo editing. For comparison, I have an older entry-level Gigabyte Radeon HD4500, and tested both cards in two computers. After rebate, this card was about twice the price, after rebate, of the old one.

The old card with fan idles at 44C, while this fanless card idles at 57C. The Windows Experience Index (WinSAT) subscores for (Graphics, Gaming Graphics) for the old card are (5.1, 6.2) and for the Sapphire are (4.7, 6.2). The Sapphire scored lower than the old card.

I contacted Sapphire tech support. This involved signing up for an online account, since there is no live support. Presumably one needs a permanent tech support account to handle the high volume of issues to come. The tech support website itself is problematic, but there appears to be no place to submit a problem ticket for the tech support web site. After creating my tech support account, I clicked on the "forgot password" link to test their security practices. The email I received had my password in clear-text. Hint: your banking web site would never store your password with reversible encryption. After entering various questions and clicking "submit", the web site redirected me to the home page without submitting anything or providing an error message. After several more tries, the request went through. Then, after a number of messages back and forth, tech support asked me what WinSAT was.

1 out of 5 eggsWorked for a year

Pros: Worked great for just shy of a year in a dual video card system

Cons: Less than a year it died, it would no longer run at full performance, WEI would drop from 7.3 down to 5.5 No hardware acceleration would work. Videos would be jumpy.

Other Thoughts: Great card for the price for desktop graphics and video, but needs good airflow in the case to keep it happy.
