4 out of 5 eggsGood card, bad factory OC

Pros: Specification-wise this card was great while I had it, a couple hundred hours in BF4, quite a few in FC3, more in Rocket League, and plenty of others.

Cons: The overclock from the factory was bad. It took me over a year to figure out that, in order to have a stable card, I had to drop the factory overclock back to stock by dropping 50MHz on the core and memory. After that, rock solid.

What would happen is I would get a "pink" or "gray" screen, the audio may or may not repeat, and the only way out was to reset.

Other Thoughts: I'm now wary about factory overclocked cards. I had a XFX Geforce 6600GT back in the day that did a similar thing, was also factory overclocked, so I'm wondering if this was the issue for that as well.

2 out of 5 eggsFan died after 2.5 years

Pros: Great card while it lasted for very infrequent gaming. Was definitely more quiet than loud, and it stayed cool when both fans were working.

Cons: I noticed that one of the fans stopped working when temperatures started getting higher than what I'm comfortable with. This seems to be a relatively common problem with this model, and there doesn't seem to be a good DIY solution. I've kicked off the process of talking with Sapphire for figuring out my repair options and will try to be using my credit card's extended warranty since Sapphire's warranty is only 2 years long. We'll see what happens...

Other Thoughts: I don't think I'll be buying another Sapphire card. I might feel differently if I really used the card hard, but I probably only used the card for 100 hours over 2.5 years...

1 out of 5 eggsFailure after one year.

Pros: 7870s are great for the price. I bought this one on Black Friday because it was about $0.99 cheaper than any other company's offering.

Cons: Died after one year of relatively light use. I clean my machines well, and my fiancee (whose computer this was in) isn't an incredibly intense power game. This thing wasn't exactly overheating. Nevertheless, after one year I have to replace it. I'm really disappointed in Sapphire's craftsmanship here.

Other Thoughts: It was a good card while I had it. I'm just extremely disappointed that I need to shell out another $200 so quick. I wasn't prepared for this kind of expense.

3 out of 5 eggsCrashes

Pros: See Other Thoughts

Cons: See Other Thoughts

Other Thoughts: I got this card more than a year ago. I actually did not know that so many people were having their computer crash because of this.

Today, I just found out this was the problem. I'm one of the less fortunate ones to have a faulty card. I do NOT overclock at all.

When the card works well, it REALLY works well. Everything is beautiful on WoW, GW2 or BF3.

Lately, I've started crashing every other day. I've turned down my graphics settings in-game to the minimum. I still get crashes.

I'm not even sure it's worth buying another, from all the complaints I see about it causing crashes.

Manufacturer Response:

We are sorry that you are having problems with your card.

If you are getting consistent crashing then we would recommend initiating the RMA process.

1 out of 5 eggsMeh

Pros: This card is great for it's power for it's price range.

Cons: It has this issue when you run newer games in Fullscreen of down throttling it's power causing the games to crash and go into a sound loop and black out the screen. The card has a lot of potential and even trying some work arounds this card still has issues. Pay the extra money and get the nvidia equivalent. It was promising but updates are lacking For this known issue.

5 out of 5 eggsIncredible

Pros: What a great purchase. I got this last black friday and I'm still super happy with my purchase. I'm seriously about to order another one to be honest I really like that I can throw most things at this and not get hurt with FPS.

Cons: I don't have a second one.

Other Thoughts: Great card, will purchase again.
