The SAPPHIRE HD 7970 6GB TOXIC Edition is based on the latest HD 7970 GHz Edition GPU from AMD, together with a host of industry first and exclusive features to deliver maximum performance. Its unique 6GB frame buffer is a World first for a consumer graphics card and makes the TOXIC Edition ideally suited to multi-screen gaming as well as providing the extra memory required for demanding professional applications such as content creation, video editing or rendering.

Performance is also World leading. By default, the HD 7970 6GB TOXIC Edition runs at 1050 MHz and dynamic boosts to 1100 MHz on the engine with the memory clock at 6000 MHz effective. By pressing the new SAPPHIRE exclusive Lethal Boost Button, the beast is unleashed, boosting the core clock speed to 1100 MHz with dynamic boost to an industry first of 1200 MHz on the engine while the memory is further overclocked to 6400 MHz Effective. The fan profile and PowerTune limit is also changed to performance settings. In addition, users will be able to individually tune the card with SAPPHIRE TriXX, the company’s free to download software tool that allows key parameters to be adjusted for maximum performance.

This astonishing performance is achieved partly as a result of a completely new power control system developed by SAPPHIRE – the Lethal Power Suite. The Lethal Power suite consists of many premium design features. These include a new 8 phase power design for the GPU VDDC, with an additional one phase each for VDDCI and MVDD. The design uses a brand new double sided Black Diamond Choke for the first time, as well as DirectFET technology and all on a 12 layer PCB to ensure the board runs fast and stable. (The double sided Black Diamond Choke design reduces the temperature around the power design portion by 40 degree Celsius in lab test when compared to the reference PCB design.)

Cooling a card with such extreme performance demands a special solution – and the SAPPHIRE HD 7970 6GB TOXIC Edition has it – with a new implementation of SAPPHIRE’s World acclaimed Vapor-X technology. The Vapor-X cooler on the TOXIC Edition is based on a new vapor chamber designed especially for this model. Heat is carried away by four heatpipes (2 x 8mm plus 2 x 6mm), and finally dispersed by two 90mm fan with aerofoil blades and dust repelling bearings.

The Vapor-X cooler easily handles the heat generated from Toxic HD 7970 even when it is running at over 1200 MHz. Additional peace of mind for the user is provided by another new feature – the PCB Temperature LED: The SAPPHIRE HD 7970 6GB TOXIC Edition has a built in onboard LED for users to monitors the PCB temperature.

Based on AMD’s Graphics Core Next architecture, the SAPPHIRE HD 7970 6GB TOXIC Edition supports all the latest demands of multi-screen applications, multi-threaded Application Acceleration with stream processing, fast HDMI support for high resolution and stereoscopic 3D displays and all the Direct Compute features incorporated in the latest operating systems. But with its exciting feature set the SAPPHIRE HD 7970 6GB TOXIC Edition is able to deliver all this with the highest levels of performance ever achieved from a single GPU.

5 out of 5 eggsNot Sure Yet

Pros: Works as far as I can determine. Have yet to use it for any games period, no overclock nothing. Being careful. I just finished up this build through Newegg.

Cons: The "bracket" that supports the card and attaches is to the case is bent (as if the card was dropped) this made installing this card quite difficult into my case. The screws would not line up. Thus some messaging. Meaning the lower screw went in at an angle. (to my case) sharp angle.

Note: This card came from NJ. It was packaged in paper. The worst packaging ever by newegg ever in my experience

Second. I can not get the screws from my monitor to attach correctly because of the distorted mounting bracket. meaning the cable is secured with only 1 screw.

I guess I should RMA it now and get another. Thoughts anyone? Sapphire, Newegg? Help Please

5 out of 5 eggsMy Brother maxed everything but metro 2033

Pros: my brother almost maxed metro 2033 on his ibm quad hd satellite tracking monitor

Cons: Noobs say crysis 2 is hard to run, it just has fancy looking graphics, but compared to metro 2033, let alone last light, it is nothing. I can play crysis 2 on ultra with a g74sx, i can run metro on medium with 25fps

Other Thoughts: the only thing better than the toxic series are the rog ARES

4 out of 5 eggsWOW!

Pros: Fast! Coolest card! GPU and VRM stays cooler than any other 7970.

Metro 2033 may be the only game this card can't run 60 plus fps.

Has a little headroom for overclocking beyond the 1200 gpu, 6400 mem speeds offered by the lethal boost.

No issues thus far using 12.8 whql drivers and the Trixx software works fine as well.

Back plate is awesome.

6gb of ram is cool for those with Eyefinity or high res monitors.

Cons: 1 egg subtracted for noise. It will get loud while gaming so beware if you need a silent machine. The tone of the fans isn't that bad but it will be loader than any other component in your case. If Sapphire could have used something like the Accelero extreme fans for less noise this card would be the best thing ever.

Price is steep.

Other Thoughts: It would have been nice to see the none toxic 6 gb version up for sale as well for price comparison.

5 out of 5 eggsLook at goods...

Pros: 1. 1 Tahiti XT2 to 1 PCB
2. 1 Tahiti XT2 to 6 GB VRam
3. Ideal for multi-monitor setups with High Resolutions.

Cons: 1. Price.
2. Not a 7970x2.

Other Thoughts: This is just a taste of AMD new line-up to come. Reviews show it dominating it's comeptition except for the 690 on almost all benches. It's a little late since the competition already out a head of time, but sales will probably dominate during the xmas season. AMD new domination on the competition until GK110 intensive gaming graphics cards hit the shelves.

5 out of 5 eggsInventory Dreadfull

Pros: Nice card I can only imagine

Cons: Newegg inventory.

I called them and they had 2 cards after just 1 hour. Fine. I tried to get one "held"; while I jack around with their site. No go. Understand that if every dip like me called and tried to give them a Credit Card to either BILL or HOLD while I speed typed I guess they would be better.

Newegg the USA is half a billion. What the hell with your stocking statistics?

You should try posting (Back ordered) (Not "Discontinued")

Sad Sad Sad
