Fan Control
- Pros: N/A
- Cons: N/A
- Other Thoughts: Just download atitool 0.27b4 (beta 4) and use the fan control under settings. At full speed it sounds like airliner is in your room (actuall itsounds more like a hair dryer). The temps will drop alot. This card has a great heatsink. At 100% fan speed the card went from 80C to 50C in 50 seconds in a room that was 70F.
Awesome Card
- Pros: Personally, this is the best card I've ever bought. It will run pretty much anything you throw at it without a hitch, and although Crysis can still beat it down on High settings. (surprise surprise) I have yet to find anything else that can. If you have the cash to shell out for one, or forbid even two, of these cards I highly recommend it/them.
I'm almost certain that if you had a 3 GPU hookup with these, you could perform time travel [/sarcasm]
- Cons: This thing runs HOT. I only have one, and although I live in a desert region, it's idle at 58 C and max's out at about 89 C
How it's even able to survive these temps are beyond me, but it does manage to keep on rendering under these conditions without a hitch. Also, you need a 1 Kilowatt PSU to Crossfire these puppies, and you might have to buy a new one anyways if your current one does not support the PCIe 8 and 6 pin connectors
Case in point, if your PC already runs hot you're going to have to take extra precautions in cooling this card. Definitely liquid cooling for the over-clocker.
- Other Thoughts: A great card, but it makes me question whether or not it may have been better to buy three 3870's and crossfire those. Then again, I'm planning on buying a second one of these when the price goes down anyways so I guess it's better for the long run.
Best Card
- Pros: This is probably the best card I have ever bought. don't let those tech heads fool you. I used to own nothing but NVIDIA froom my Voodoo 3 up to my 6800. People write reviews very biasedly and dont realize how many factors can affect game performance. People also compare it to the new 9600 and 3870 like the guy below but what he didnt realize is that this card isnt just for gaming it has twice as many features as those other cards.
- Cons: The fans arent loud like some people say and I dont have a problem with heat even after overclocking them. The only thing I dont like about any of these top end cards is that they take up two slots. So you lose an extra PCI slot.
- Other Thoughts: Remember dont be fooled by people with biased opinions. You wont see any difference between the Nvidia cards or the new 3870. You will only see a difference when you bench the computer. 5-10 frames per second isnt even visable unless you are running at 10 FPS but most games today run between 50-80 FPS
