- Pros: Runs eveyrything I've thrown at it from Crysis to Bioshock on high settings.
- Cons: Tends to get pretty hot.
- Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a modestly priced card for gaming, you can't go wrong with this card. Also a decent investment if you plan on upgrading in the future, just buy another one and set up crossfire.
Great Card!
- Pros: Awesome card for the price, can't find a better bang for your buck! Runs WoW on fullest quality at 60FPS constant; and that is what I bought it for. Runs all other games just as smoothly. Does run hot, but can be fixed if seeing those temperatures bugs you, read other reviews to find out how. Haven't had any problems yet; just plugged in, installed drivers, and went. Worked perfect for my new machine.
- Cons: None so far.
- Other Thoughts: Buy it!
Good Start To A Crossfire Setup
- Pros: As everybody else says, this gives outstanding performance for the price range. Personally I would consider this as ONE of the high end cards for the few months to come. This also runs well on alot of game from High to Max settings. Also my personal card I can overclock to 675mhz core and 1100mhz [2200effective] memoy core with 0 instabilities. So if you dont want to break $250+ for a new card anytime soon, definately consider this card, for the perfomance in single card mode is outstanding [See other thoughts for comments on crossfire]
- Cons: Like all cards with cheap Fans, this WILL run extremely hot [80c-95c]. And it is IMPOSSIBLE to run this card at a high load and get 40c-50c temps on a low fan setting. People that say they get that are LIARS, and chances are they are probably just looking at the temps while sitting on the desktop screen, as opposed to checking the true temp output while playing a game in windowed mode. You can lower the temps a little bit if you run the fan at 100% but it will be extremely loud. So I really advise you get a 3rd party VGA cooler [I have the ZalmanVF900]. As far as performance flaws......the only weakness I experienced with this card so was just processing too many shadows and water effects......especially if there is alot of water involved [such as Crysis and Red Alert 3 that has tons of water and shadows to process]. As for Anti-aliasing levels that vary's with different factors.......so just experiment with yours.
- Other Thoughts: Probably the question alot of shoppers considering this card will be asking....... "Well how does it perform in crossfire mode?" My honest answer is.........if the game supports crossfire [and 80% of games developed in late 2007 do], then you will have true graphical bliss. The few weaknesses I encountered was while I ran it as a single card. But after recently purchasing a second HD4850 [both are this exact model] those weaknesses IMMEDIATELY went away. Now I can run everything maxed out AND I can still overclock to my 670mhz/1100mhz[2200mhz effective] setting, and not have a single slowdown issue. The catch with these in crossfire they will run even hotter, so make sure u get that fan. My only disappointment was that the idiots at crytek didnt do well on multi-card support for crysis, so you have run it in window mode at the moment. But everything else I tried, I ran with zero slowdown. so One HD4850 is good,t wo HD4850's are good-er!!!
