Awesome card... when the drivers are stable..
- Pros: Execellent card expecially for the price.. HDCP compliant and high quality output on CRT monitor & CRT SDTV using S-Video.. gets a 5.8 rating in Vista
- Cons: The drivers (both ASUS and nVidia) are unstable in Vista x64.. somedays I have no problems and others I get BSOD every 5-10 mins (related to the drivers).. According the the nVidia forums, there have been simmular problems in XP (mostly related to SLI tho).
No issues in Safe Mode, Prime 95 stable (in safe mode) for 48+ hrs...
- Other Thoughts: Once nVidia produces stable drivers, this will be the best card on the market in the price range..
Running a Vista x64 based HTPC w/ 2gb 667Mhz DDR2 RAM, Pentium D 820 (3.2Ghz), ASUS P5L-VM mobo, Rosewill RC-211 PCI-E RAID Controller, Hauppauge MCE-150 tuner and SoundBlaster X-Fi soundcard in a mATX Cooler Master case w/ ASUS VR Guard Ball VR Guard CPU Coole.
Tight card
- Pros: Affordable, easy to overclock. Asus quality. Handles Supreme Commander like a champ at 1440x900 4xAA and everything cranked.
Kind of a house really.
- Cons: Fan speed fluctuations were an issue even after locking the speed to 100%. Cranked up the PCI bus speed from 1.5V to 1.6V. Appears to have remedied the situation.
- Other Thoughts: Friend just picked this up:

Not Thrilled
- Pros: Cheap with a good rebate. PCI Express x16 is nice for older motherboards.
- Cons: When I originally installed the card and drivers from the CD graphics were glitchy and broken in World of Warcraft. I went to the Asus site to update the drivers and the site and download were incredibly slow. I did eventually get them updated and the card worked much better. However, I still get a lot of glitching when moving around in game. I get strange spikes of white or black across portions of the screen in quick flashes sometimes. Also, I don't seem to be able to reliably run at better than 4x AA.
- Other Thoughts: I got this card because I did not have a PCI Express 2.0 slot on my old motherboard and I wanted to upgrade from my old GeForce 7600GT. It really was no visible improvement from my old card and seems much more glitchy. I've given up on it and ordered a new motherboard, cpu, and graphics card.
ASUS EN8600GTS/HTDP/256M GeForce 8600 GTS 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card
- Pros: We have had this video card for a week now and runs better than we ever expected. It was purchased to run a Great Planes G4 Flight Simulator (in addition to 2 others) for our e-machines (Windows XP) and the FPS have tripled since the installation; fan runs quiet, ASUS has a great product here; we highly recommend it. We are not big gamers and are newbies to video cards but this product met our needs both with performance and price.
- Cons: None so far.
256MB or 512MB?
- Pros: Nice card for the money. Plays my games just fine at high settings. (Battlefield 2, Tribes: Vengeance, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., and more) SLI availability, but I don't use it.
Came with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game, which isn't advertised. 512MB memory?(See other thoughts)
- Cons: Heatsink is a tad big, it takes up the slot below it and if you want it to have breathing room, the slot below that one as well.
- Other Thoughts: I've read a couple reviews on here saying that this is actually a 512MB card. Here's what I came up with: Windows System Information (Windows XP Pro) says this card has 512MB. DirectX Diagnostic tool says this card has 512MB. The utility program(s) that came with this card say it has 256MB. Riva Tuner says it has 256MB. It's advertised as having 256MB...so WHICH IS IT? Anyone know? None the less, it runs great and plays games smoothly as can be.
