- Pros: Great card. Plays every game I want at 1280x1024 with maxed out settings without a hiccup.
- Cons: As others have mentioned, the default fan speeds are too slow. I had to up the fan speed to 75% for GRID to run without crashing or hangs. At this speed the fan on this card is the loudest thing in my case, but it's something I can easily live with. Everything else I run seems to be happy with the fan at 65% and it's noticeably quieter at that setting.
- Other Thoughts: This is a long card and it effectively blocks one of my hard drive bays. The ASUS rebate is questionable so far. It has been a month and a half since submission, but their online tracking system reports they supposedly have not yet "received" the documentation I mailed in.
Great Card
- Pros: Amazing card, was very easy to install and it was up and running games within 20 minutes after I installed it in my PC. Combined with the 2 GB of DDR2 1066 that I also bought with it, it makes games scream on the max resolution my monitor supports.
Power usage on the card is very light. While the card is idle, it uses about the same as my old 6800GT and just a smidge more than the 6800GT while gaming at max resolution.
The squirrel cage fan on the card is also very quiet, even while gaming.
- Cons: The only two cons I can think of are that it uses two slots and it is pretty long, though those really don't affect my system because I don't use any of the PCI slots and it doesn't obstruct any of the drive bays.
It may prove a problem with people that have smaller cases with more stuff in them, so be careful to check if you have room in your case.
- Other Thoughts: I bought this card to replace my aging GF6800GT which was starting to struggle with the newer episodes of HL2 and Orange Box games. It makes a perfect combo with my E6750 and DDR2 1066 memory.
I would highly recommend it for anyone wanting a great gaming card.
Buy It
- Pros: Awesome.
- Cons: None. I hear the new ATI HD 4*** series may actually be a great product and be better than NVIDIA.
- Other Thoughts: It's really big (long, plus it's a double slot).
I wanted the 9800GT, but it wasn't out yet. Another good item is the 8800GT. Remember to connect the 6-pin power connector. A while ago I liked ATI, but the Geforce series will rock a comparable Radeon card, but as above, things may finally change with the new ATI cards.
