Linux loving GPU
- Pros: Ubuntu Jaunty recognized the card on boot, restricted drivers make this baby hum.
- Cons: Too much packaging from Asus... Give it to me in an unbleached OEM box.
Very Satisfied
- Pros: Fast. Easy to use. Great features. Very quiet.
- Cons: BIIIIIIIG!
- Other Thoughts: I purchased this card to upgrade from my Geforce 8400 HD 256Mb card. I have a fairly powerful machine and this card was my limiting factor (according to my windows experience score, anyway). The only problem I had with the install was the size. I had a tv tuner card in the slot next to my old video card and i had to move it over 1 slot to fit this one in. The fan is a monster but it keeps it cool enough. Once I got it in I lost the use of the next slot over. Other than that, I'm thrilled. It took my vista score from a 4.0 to a 5.6, then to a 5.7 once I got the drivers up to date. The monitoring utilities are nice too. As for gaming, the card was kind enough to max out my left 4 dead settings and it looked and ran beautifully. I was even able to play that resource hog game Ghostbuster, though barely. With the rebate this card is a great deal, though I'm sure I won't see that money till the end of the summer. If you have the space, I recommend this card.
Whee
- Pros: When the thing worked, It worked well. Fast and smooth.
- Cons: Major in-game freakouts. Doesn't work anymore.
- Other Thoughts: Since it's supposed to be about the card, I'd have given it a 5 -- from what I saw, a fully functional card would have been great for the price. The lost egg is for delivery time and return service.
-- "2-day free delivery" apparently means "two days to process the order and three more to ship it."
-- Return service = not so good. I now have to pay $10.00+ for return shipping because I was given a faulty product and it may take a few weeks to get a replacement.
When all goes well, Newegg is great... when it doesn't... not so much.
