2 out of 5 eggsWhat a pain in the!!!!!

Pros: Good card for a great price. works great in thew winter and drives internet and work programs beautifully.

Cons: The bios suck and you cannot get an update for the asus site that works. The thing over heats like theres no tommorw when gaming and there seems to be no fix. I Play WoW which isn't the most graphics intencive game out there and this card heats up and artifacts then crashes completely requireing a total system reboot.

Other Thoughts: I bought this card in Feb. for a new build and was very happy with it during the winter months because my house is like an Icebox but once summer started to show its ugly head this card showed its you know. Tried getting the newer bios and all I got was a could not install error every time. I am totally frustrated by all of this and would tell anyone that unless Asus fixes these problems avoid this card at all costs if you want to game on it.

System: Asus P5E Board
Asus EAH4850 1GB Graphics Card
4GB Corsair Dominator Memory
Corsair TX750w Power supply
2x 650GB Western Digital HDs

3 out of 5 eggsMerp

Pros: Okay... let me start off by saying this card is not BAD. It's a good card... there are a lot of issues with it though.

Excellent for watching HD movies and general computing...

Cons: It has issues. When trying to play games, it will overheat... I've overclocked it a couple times getting the same results (a crashed game).

I've been told that there's a bios fix that will take care of the heating issues... blah blah blah... but it won't let me flash it.

I plan on reformatting in the near future, so I'll get all the drivers reinstalled properly and see if that doesn't change anything. For now, if I wanna game I just crank the fan to 100 and hope for the best. :-/

PSU: Corsair 520HX (520W [20a/12v rail])
Display: Acer 22" Widescreen

5 out of 5 eggsAggravation Resolved

Pros: This is a follow-up to my earlier review. After nothing but trouble for three months, I contacted Asus and RMA'd the card. Before I sent it back, I got an Nvidia GTX just to see how much improvement I'd see and -- voila -- the same issues I was experiencing with my games and some other stuff appeared as if it was the same card that caused the problem. Turns out it was my motherboard -- an Asus P5Q Deluxe -- that wound up being the problem. I RMA'd the board (they advance-replaced it) and once everything was re-done, reconnected and reinstalled, everything -- including the 4850 -- worked perfectly.

Cons: It didn't tell me "I'm not the problem, fool, it's your motherboard!"

Other Thoughts: As described above, I had issues with games but it was no fault of the 4850, it was my mobo. I tried a lot of things, including Memtest and a bunch of other stuff, before I was able to -- finally -- determine what the problem was.

This card isn't the top of the line out there, but it's a solid, reasonably cool alternative to the uber-high-end cards available now and it's seemingly working 100% perfectly.

Consider this review as an update to my earlier review of the product, and also consider the fact that Asus made this entire process pretty easy. Put another way, it was a lot easier and a lot faster dealing with Asus on this and my motherboard than it was dealing with any other PC/electronics company. Even if you don't want this particular board, consider this a big thumbs up for Asus.

Oh yeah, Newegg rocks ;-)

1 out of 5 eggsGarbage

Pros: when it worked it was pretty good

Cons: i cant stress enough how much i wish i didnt buy this card. this is in addition to my previous comment. i sent it in for an rma through asus without much hassle. i got it back in today so i put it in, no artifacts in post or in windows. after installing drivers i put in tom clancys hawx and after about a minute of actual gameplay it crashes again and i get artifacts again. they are in the same consistancy as before i rma'd it. this time around asus support has been ridiculously good at not helping

Other Thoughts: dont buy this card

1 out of 5 eggsHeadaches, Aggravation

Pros: When it works, the thing is clean, quiet and solid.

Cons: It doesn't work often.

Other Thoughts: If you're considering this card for a gaming rig (as opposed to watching video or doing your spreadsheets), consider this: it apparently can't run Call of Duty World at War, FEAR 2, Crysis Warhead or Gears of War without issues -- LOTS of issues.

I built a new machine with an Asus motherboard -- which is great -- but these games run better on my older machine with a cheaper, older video card (also an ATI). I'm not sure if this is a hardware issue or an ATI driver issue, but consider this fair warning: unless you want to spend hours trying to get games to work rather than actually enjoying them, skip this card (at least until ATI releases 9.3 or more current drivers).

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: At first very good GPU for about 4 months

Cons: After about 4 months things started to fall apart. Now it freezes up and my photoshop program tells me my GPU is not working correctly.

Other Thoughts: Do yourself a favor do not by this video card.

4 out of 5 eggsSo far, so good

Pros: Easy install- bios read right away and CD install went smooth. Colors and graphics are sharp on wide screen Asus 21 inch HD monitor. Great rebate offer when I bought it. WOW runs like a breeze with very nice flow and no pauses.

Cons: The video signal cuts out when I plug an external hard drive in to the front usb port... all wires are connected correctly to the mother board and I can't seem to figure out what is wrong... could be the power supply I guess. It's no big deal though a restart resets it. Same thing happens when s-video is hooked up to a 32 hd tv. s-video isn't working now but I'm sure it's on my end and will have to come up with a fix... it shouldn't be this hard though.

Other Thoughts: Great!

1 out of 5 eggsWorked for a while...

Pros: Great specs for a low price. Fairly quiet.

Cons: I installed this card two months ago in a new build. It WAS working then a couple of weeks ago I start getting blocking, freezing, etc. I updated the drivers and verified everything else. I decided to run my burn in program. The video starts locking up while playing certain types of audio. To test it I installed a nV!#!a 9600GT card and ran the same tests. No lockups! Installed the ASUS back to locking up. I like ASUS motherboards and thought how could I go wrong with their graphics cards. I know better next time. Back when I purchased this all the reviews were ok to good, now...

Other Thoughts: Don't buy this card, it won't last.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Performed well for gaming, stayed cool as crysis was able to get it touching 70C other than it performed well for the price

Cons: the memory modules overheated while gaming, i never overclocked it but the gpu was around 67 when it happened the game did something like a snowcrash and now it gives me artifacts around mouse and icons. if you do buy this and plan on stressing it make sure you add heat sinks to the memory

Other Thoughts: none
