glitchy at first, drivers fixed it
- Pros: Handles blu-ray playback flawlessly. I can play some modest games on it(virtual tennis 3 w/ all the settings on high as my latest). Fanless design=quiet operation.
- Cons: For the first 3-4 months I had audio issues. The card is suppose to pass audio through the HDMI to my TV. Well, when I'd turn the TV back on, about 50% of the time, the card wouldn't "see" that the TV was actually ON, so no audio. Sometimes I could just open a few folders and it'd recognize the TV and the audio would click on. Other times, I couldn't get it to work for nothing and had to restart. Installed latest drivers today from ATI and all seems to be OK....I hope.
- Other Thoughts: I put a problem ticket in with ATI about the audio problem and never got a reply. I don't know if it's because they've heard this problem from other peeps(apparently it's a problem across all of their HD 4xxx cards), or because they just have bad service. Either way, the new drivers fixed the problem, so no biggie. I'd buy it again at this price. Excellent HTPC card.
Not bad for Price
- Pros: Works on my HTPC for most things so far. Haven't done anything to really test the cards alleged capabilities yet beyond watching Hulu.com and cableTV.
- Cons: Seems to have problems with OpenGL. I tried to get ZeeVee.com software to work, but it blows up trying to access the OpenGL on this card. According to ZeeVee they have not been able to reproduce this error on the 4350 cards they have in their lab. Not being able to utilize this card on ZeeVee.com is a HUGH negative in my mind, since this card is aimed at HTPCs.
- Pros: Easy to install
- Cons: Can't even play Youtube HD videos
- Other Thoughts: I purchased this under the impression that, when coupled with a 3ghz P4 processor and 2gb of RAM, I would be able to get smooth HD playback. Ha! It chokes like nothing else on a 720p mp4 file, and Youtube HD? Forget it.
The MSI 7300 that this thing replaced had better playback than this! Oh well, back to the drawing board...
