5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I bought this video card back in 2009 and i've used it up till 2013 and it was still going strong. Very happy with asus and there quality products.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Now it is being used in a low budget desktop for basic web use to this day.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for the price!

Pros: Dropped striaght in and ran without a hitch.

Cons: Big card considering the preformance. Might be a problem if you have a smaller case.

Other Thoughts: I just got this for my I7 920 rig because I was on a budget and just need some video till I can get the GTX 295. Even so I am really impressed with this card.

5 out of 5 eggsGood budget card

Pros: Great card for the money. does what is says it does. tested as Video card when first set up and it works great for a budget card! (see Other thoughts)

Cons: do not use the drivers from Asus, they sometimes cause games to not run. when I had an ATI HD 4850 it made Fallout 3 crash before it loaded. Fix was to get drivers from ATI. (in this case nVidia)

Other Thoughts: and no this is not the 9600GSO 512, it is indeed a 9600GSO that was fitted with 512Mb of GDDR3. (which means its the better version)

I am useing it as a dedicated PhysX card now.

as for the guy worried about temps being 57c and 61c (which are normal temps)...the max temp for this card is 105c so you are good, no worries.

2 out of 5 eggsreview addendum

Pros: cheapness

Cons: cheapness

Other Thoughts: Looks like I spoke too soon.

From what I can see, or rather not see is that the video stops working when I put the computer to sleep then try to wake it. At first the screen would come on, then go blank. Then after a few tries it would just do a nice clean reboot upon waking, thankfully saving me from having to reach down to hit the reset button. Even a fresh, fully updated vista install with all the latest drivers won't fix the problem.

I'd like to return it for another but at this price point with the return shipping cost if I get another dud I'll end up paying twice for the card. I'm cutting my losses and sending back for a refund. Too bad, I'll miss the extra SP's!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

5 out of 5 eggsAwsome 4 the $

Pros: Great performance.
VGA connector for old displays.
SLI as well as a connector for audio on top next to the connector for SLI. (did not use)

Cons: No heat shroud.

Other Thoughts: Gpu temp makes me paranoid Runs at 57C and I have had it reach 61C in games. I haven't tryed any new games yet just some older games. The realtime over clocking and recording software (Gamer OSD) packaged with the card can cause driver conflicts in windows XP. Do not install until windows is fully updated and all drivers are installed. The C key on my keyboard stopped working and I had to remove the software and reinstall. However hot key commands for this software still do not work. If you want to record stuff just buy other software. Note the gpu monitoring software does not require Gamer OSD except of the overclocking function.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Price
Cheap
Inexpensive

Cons: Memory is riding the short bus

Other Thoughts: Picked this up out of curiosity. Wasn't expecting much therefore was pleasantly surprised.

At stock speed performance was slightly better than my heavily overclocked ddr3 9500gt in all my games. Seemed to have a nice edge in Red Faction: Guerrilla , my guess is the 3x stream processors helped with physx. Was able to bump resolution from 720p to native (1600x900).

Memory bus chokes this card, high textures and antialiasing are almost out of the question.

Nice overclocking results, 630 core/1620 shaders/1800 ram. This card is starved for memory bandwidth so overclocking ram should be a priority!

In 3dmark 06, got 7100 stock, 8600 when overclocked. My 9500gtOC gets around 7200.

Worth it? I was getting 40fps in WaW, which I've started playing a lot. Now I'm getting 60fps, which makes quite a noticable difference.

Definitely worth it!
