5 out of 5 eggsFastest single card right now.

Pros: This card is fast! In 1080p I get 170fps in Batman AA, 40 in Crysis Warhead, 300+ in MW2!!

Packaging is really good, feels like you get your money's worth. :)

Runs super cool; idles at 30C. I'm running it at 900/1300 @ stock voltage.

Cons: Super long; but it fits in my micro atx Cooler Master 341!

Other Thoughts: Do not install the drivers in the CD. Get the latest AMD drivers online; and download MSI Afterburner to overclock.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdated Review

Pros: Update to "Great Card" review of 2/4/2010. Regarding the problems with the software utilities which ship with this card -- specifically, 1) ASUS Gamer OSD and 2) ASUS Smart Doctor -- I downloaded 'Driver Sweeper' (free utility), ran it, and removed all previous traces of graphics-card drivers (including NVIDIA traces).

These two ASUS utilities are working fine now with the card.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsAnother ASUS Winner

Pros: Blazing fast , looks great , no cartoonish emblems or pics on it, DX11 yes,
All I really play is BF2 which it handles easily with all settings maxxd.
Did I say IT LOOKS GREAT !!!
Its NOT that loud when fan speed is down to 20-25 percent

Cons: Some minor issues with output through ASUS HDVA 1.3 Deluxe, WINAMP and other DVD / video software is very reddish washout with SPLENDID video enhancement enabled. Disabling this feature fixes that issue / thought it was a driver conflict at first. Also will not play BF2 through the HDVA 1.3 Deluxe output / must send HDMI straight to Onkyo receiver but both of these issues are more the Sound card than the Video card.... I just wish ASUS had better driver for the soundcard. Im sure these issues will be addressed on some future update.
EGGSPENSIVE $$$ wont be going Xfire for a while but the reason I spent so much on this card to begin with is that I dont need 599 fps. cough. I spent the money on a great RAID controller card instead.
Catalyst software sometimes crashes but just restarting it fixes that.
Cranking up the fan manually past 35-40 percent gets obnoxiously loud. I m saving for a Fesser CPU / GPU cooling block / radiator set next .

Other Thoughts: Will definitely add second one at some point. I have EVGA P55 now which is only PCI-E x16 x8 in crossfire so im probably going to upgrade first to new 1156 MB with x16 x16 pci-e

2 out of 5 eggswait for new drivers

Pros: very fast frame rate with all options high when it works

Cons: random crashes when playing games. very annoying, my old card gave less FPS but at least it didn't crash games twice a day. I wish I had waited for more mature drivers or perhaps this particular card is a dud

Other Thoughts: I thought the problem might be due to overheating so I ordered a water block and added it to my water cooling loop. Even with GPU temps below 40 I still get crashes when playing crysis and rome. I did not have these problems with my old card. I even went so far as to do a fresh install of windows to be sure the old drivers were gone before I loaded the ati drivers. Now I'm stuck with an expensive paper weight

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Asus Customer,
We sincerely apologize for the issues you have experienced with this videocard. AMD released their Catalyst 10.2 Drivers and should resolve the random crash issues you have been experiencing, the link is included below for you convenience. If this does not resolve the issue, please email me directly at aps_support@asus.com, please include your serial number and complete contact information with subject heading "Driver Crashing".
Best Regards,
Don

5 out of 5 eggsNICE

Pros: After studying a few GPU benchmark charts i decided to switch from my usual Nvidia preference and go with this card. Upgraded from a 9800 GT and wow i am impressed. If you are a 60 fps enthusiast i suggest going with this card. I really see no need for crossfire mode at this time, just make sure you got a good processor so you don't get bottle necked. It works very swell with my Core i7.

Cons: Driver problems? I experienced none. Windows 7 picked up the card right off the bat and i downloaded the latest catalyst drivers from the AMD website. The card is smooth as silk and i have had absolutely no bugging or problems whatsoever.

Other Thoughts: I have played the following games at an average of 55-60 FPS at MAXIMUM setting with AA and Anisotropic Filtering MAXED.

Fallout 3
Left 4 Dead 2
Bioshock
Call of Duty Modern Warfare
The Orange Box
Wolfenstein
Grand Theft Auto IV (Maxed out but view distance only at 40. I can live with that. It's still beautiful.)

My Specs:

This Wonderful Card
ASUS P6X58D Premium Motherboard
Intel Core i7 920
12 GB OCZ DDR3 1600
150 GB Raptor
Windows 7 64-bit

Pros: very card, runs everything i through at it. can play wow with everything maxed out and still have a high frame rate. plenty of room.

Cons: the only con i have is that when i play legendary or prototype the game seems to lag a little on certain seens. dont know if its the apps in the background running or what.

Other Thoughts: very nice card. would recommended it and workin on getting my second card.

5 out of 5 eggsOut of sight!!!

Pros: Plays any game I throw at it on max settings (Bioshock, Crysis, Crysis Warhead, MOA Airborne, Call Of Duty World at War, Red Faction Guerrilla, S.T.A.K.E.R.,Ect...). Thats just with one 5870 card.

Cons: It gets a little hot, but you can control that by downloading the ASUS Smart doctor. It controls fan speed at different temp levels. Otherwise there are no cons.

Other Thoughts: i7_950 3.06
ASUS P6X58D Motherboard
6Gs. Ram
Cooler Master Real Power Pro 1000w
Cosmos 1000 Case

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card

Pros: Nice, noticeable, upgrade in performance from a GTX 260 - which is not a bad card to begin with. Quiet fan at 'auto' speed setting. Card runs cool. Overclocked to 960-Core and 1250-memory stable.

The card runs all games with higher FPS as others have stated of course; but I've also noticed the 'minimum FPS' are higher with this card as well - i.e., Crysis and Crysis-Wars - the minimum FPS doesn't drop below 30 FPS even in the most demanding game segments, and with ultra settings. Also runs Star-Trek Online and Mass Effect 2 quite well so far. (Just installed these two and so have limited game-play).

Cons: The card is very long - I had to move a drive-cage to accommodate the card. The case is listed as a 'TS514 10-bay case w/250mm side fan' on the Polywell site. But no big deal - just be aware of the length of this card as others have stated.

Other Thoughts: Okay - here's the deal. I'm hoping to save someone out there a lot of time and guess-work solving potential problems associated with installing this card - problems I experienced, but maybe others have not?

I'm not here to flame ASUS or bad-mouth their software; however, for me, I had major problems with the software utilities which ship with this card -- specifically, 1) ASUS Gamer OSD and 2) ASUS Smart Doctor. Yes, I downloaded updated drivers and the latest versions of these software titles from the ASUS site, but still experienced problems - specifically, black-screens on both Crysis and Crysis Wars, as well as Fallout3, for example. None of these titles would load on startup - just black screens. Finally, uninstalling these ASUS software utilities solved all instability issues in all games. All load and play fine now.

Specifications: Asus P5E3 Deluxe/Wi-Fi Motherboard; Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 CPU (3.6 Ghz overclock); 4 gigabytes DDR3 (1333 Mhz) system memory.

5 out of 5 eggsFinally a card I feel good about.

Pros: For over 5yrs now I had been using a 6800gt. Then I upgraded to a 3870x2 which left a bad taste in my mouth after spending 4 Benjamins. I gave it to my cousin after replacing it with 2 4830's that smoked it. Still not happy I went with a gtx285. It was fast, but when the 5870 released I had to try it, sold the 285 on ebhay and bought it. I'm a happy gamer now. And I'm a junky for the fastest single core video card on the market. As soon as NV releases one faster I'm not going to be able to resist. I will have to buy it. But for now this card is extremely fast, everything I throw at it plays so smooth. GTA4, Crysis, COD, Borderlands, ME2, DA, and one that surprised me was ARMA2 at full settings, the 285 couldn't handle it.

Cons: None, I have a HAF Cooler Master Case. So room is no concern of mine.

Other Thoughts: Quit looking at these reviews and click add to cart you pansy!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card

Pros: I've not been much of a gamer for the last couple years as work has pretty much consumed my life. After I threw this new computer together I had to test out this card. I played Dirt 2 for around 3 hours straight. Then I installed Red Alert 3, RA2, Generals, Generals ZH, Yuri's, etc. and it runs all of it at the highest resolution with highest settings. I'm blown away with this card.

Cons: The size of the card but you can't really control that when you get to the level this graphic card can handle. :p

Other Thoughts: Before this new build I was running an 8800 GTS and that thing was flaming hot constantly. But that could have been my small case. I cannot believe how cool this 5870 runs even when on load. Tremendous job done by ATI/AMD and ASUS.
