Sounds like a Jet
- Pros: * Big upgrade performance-wise from my 8600GTS
* Price was right * Free game voucher (valid through end of Feb, unlike product description says--got Resident Evil 5, so far so good) * Pushed me over the edge to get an Accelero S1 Rev 2 HSF.
- Cons: * Super loud.
* After buying an accelero s1 rev 2 passive heatsink (replacement only return policy :-( ), the price is no longer right.
- Other Thoughts: I was debating getting the BFG passive heat sink model, but this one was cheaper and the BFG reviews said it gets REALLY hot. Reviews on the glaciator HS elsewhere seemed to indicate it might only be < 25db. However, for my card it's running ridiculously loud (40-50 db?), stuck at a minimum of "40%" speed, despite the card idling at 45 degrees. control software is near impossible to get to work on win7 x64, and riva... won't get it lower than 25% speed--which is still louder than my PSU, CPU, 3 case fans, and HDD put together. absolutely ridiculous.
Maybe I got a lemon. I couldn't handle the noise, so I stuck my old card back in after a couple hours until my new HSF shows up. Maybe they're all friggin loud--I just couldn't find good info and didn't want to risk a wasted RMA.
I would have returned it, except for $70 after rebate they're only offering a replacement only return. $30 for an Accelero passive HSF should solve the sound problem, but for $100 this isn't a great de
Good enough
- Pros: Superior cooling to my evga8800gtsSSC1g
Price ASUS has always done me right Newegg!
- Cons: It's not the fastest or most powerful card on the market
- Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace the above mentioned 8800. The 8800 ran stupid hot and it was on it's last legs. The cooling is so improved I can't even compare the two. The 8800 was a superior card on paper but could never achieve it due to heat issues. I'm going to start tentatively ocing this, I'm confident it can handle a significant oc.
ASUS 9800GT
- Pros: Nice card. So far so good.
- Cons: None
