1 out of 5 eggsSweet, I love black screens

Pros: I received this card from an RMA, they replaced my old v1 5870 with this card.

Cons: My 5870 v1 died after less then a year and went off on the great RMA voyage, a few weeks later they sent me a brand new card, it was this newer 5870 model v2. This new card lasted over night before it overheated and died, RMA'd. They now sent me a refurbished v2 from the warehouse and THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED, lasted a few hours and died. Now I've been waiting for over a week for an RMA number again. Thanks ASUS, I enjoy paying 24 bucks shipping every time you send me garbage. so far 24 x 3, it adds up pretty quick and makes me rethink my purchase of an ASUS product.

Other Thoughts: 72 bucks shipping so far, I should have just bought a different card and kicked ASUS to the curb.

Pros: plays current games in high settings.

Cons: small green artifacts (around 15-20 once in a while) shows up and disappear on my desktop and while watching videos in VLC player but none during games.

reformatted the computer and resintalled drivers. same problem shows up. up to this point im not sure what to do, whether to just deal with it or get a refurbished one

Other Thoughts: slightly disappointed. i was expecting a perfect build

5 out of 5 eggsGood

Pros: It's a great card. Bought 2 and I haven't had any problems with them. My old GTX 275 would hit 80c all the time but these cards have never seen 70c and after a few hours of gaming they're usually around 60c. I play all games at max settings with no problems. I've had some pretty decent benchmarks. They over clock very well.

Cons: It's not a GTX 580. This is my first ATI build. I've only bought from EVGA before now. Someday I'll build another NVIDIA rig but for now I can't really complain too much. I can complain about the drivers though. ATI drivers suck. They pump them out often but it's hard to find one that works all around. I still haven't found a driver that gives the best performance with all the games I play at one time.

Other Thoughts: I wish I had two 580's instead but these cards are far from being horrible or anything. I'm happy with them and I'm sure I'll be gaming with them for at least 6 months to a year happily.

5 out of 5 eggsSecond chance

Pros: This is my second review of this card, in my first review I gave it one egg because the card I bought from newegg was defective, it will pass 3dmark and heaven benchmark but crashes when I start furmark or occt, after 2 rma to asus support they gave me another card and after testing it I'm speechless, this card is awesome, lightning fast, quiet, low power requirement and maximum temp under extreme load only 82 °C

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I want to thank Mason from Asus support for being extremely helpful and getting back to me to solve my problem with this card, for anyone else having similar problems send an email to: OC_Support@asus.com.
my faith in asus is restored.

5 out of 5 eggsWould highly recommend it

Pros: This is one of the top tier cards to have (as of 10/2010) for all current needs (gaming or transcoding video)... this thing fills in all the holes.

Cons: Runs loud at times, comes with tweaking software but I didn't bother to use it.

Also, as most of these cards its very loud for a few seconds upon initial bootup.

Other Thoughts: I wish there was a hydro cooling solution for this to make it fan-less, currently its the loudest and only noticeable fan that makes noise in my entire system.
I didn't take an egg away for that though.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as Intended

Pros: So far I have not found a game that it can't handle, crysis gives it a run for the money but other than that every game I played from BF2BC , America's Army , World in Conflict and all the Call of Duty series run with high settings and never has the graphics lag I had with my Asus 3870X2 or my XFX 4870 . My settings are GPU clock 950 and memory clock is 1300 . With the fan set on auto my temps are 57 c Idle and 68 c Under load. I never used the voltage tweek software that came with it as increasing voltage leads to an early grave for GPU's.

Cons: I don't have any cons but I see alot of negitive reviews that most can be possibly explained as a weak PSU , Remember you need plenty of AMPS on the 12 volt rails to run this card to its full potential.

Other Thoughts: Keep up the Good work ASUS ......

1 out of 5 eggsBroke - RMA - Returned Broken Still

Pros: Runs most games on high @ 1920X1200

Cons: I bought this from one of newegg's competitors (the one that has "fly" in its name) back in July. Then all of a sudden while playing SC2 in October I start getting random flashes of very thin grey lines during gameplay. Panicked I restarted the computer but still had the same problem. I tested it in Bad Company 2 and Counterstrike Source and the had the same problem. I re-seated the card, dusted it off using canned air (it wasn't that dusty), reinstalled latest drivers all to no avail.

The problem persisted no matter what. I finally took it out and placed my old EVGA 9800GT. Problem gone.

Okay, so I call for RMA. Pay $24 to ship it and then get the same exact card 1 week later. No confirmation of it being received, no tracking number to tell when it is arriving, one of the worst RMA process I've experienced to be honest.

Okay, big deal, they fixed the card anyway right? Wrong! I now have the same exact problem as when I sent the card out in the first place!

Other Thoughts: Did they even try to fix it? Are they expecting me to pay UPS another $24 to ship it to them?! Ughh. What a horrible experience I will never ever buy Asus again.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid

Pros: None

Cons: Have purchased 3 of these cards for resale. 2 worked and one failed. If you get a failed video card from ASUS you are in trouble. The defective card I had has now been RMA'd 5 times. ASUS will replace the card with someone elses problem card. The problems with the RMA'd cards went from dead to random shadows during gameplay. If you get a defective card you should demand that ASUS repalce it with a new nvidia card or just throw it in the trash and don't waste your time. If you do RMA it chances are you will be getting one of the cards that I returned.

2 out of 5 eggsStarted good... ended poorly...

Pros: Ran good while it lasted!

Cons: Same problems as the others.... apperantly this card has a very high failure rate :( I read all the bad things about this card and went ahead and got one anyway (not from newegg). Sucker ran fast for about 2 months then just died on me... weak...

Has been in ASUS RMA for almost 3 weeks now, and now they tell me they are going to swap it for a refurbished card... what the heck ASUS.. that is junk. You sell me a junk card, and then when it breaks you swap it for another junk card that has a bandaid slapped on it? Why does it take 3-4 weeks to do this? And why can't you get anyone on the phone that actually knows what they are doing... bad, bad, bad...

Other Thoughts: Stay away from this card. I have tested several 5870s and the only thing special abotu this card is that it is more expensive. You will be better off with a reference Sapphire card

5 out of 5 eggsI'm happy

Pros: I love this card. It's pretty and ASUS has gone beyond the reference design with this one. The fan is huge, the heatsink is much more efficient, and I haven't hit 60c overclocked running Unigine Heaven benchmarks for over an hour with the fan at 70%. I love the fact that you can up the voltage and overclock this beast to 1000MHz+ but so far I've only got to about 950MHz and I'll explain that in the cons. I play BFBC2 at max setting, HBAO on, and I get a solid 60 fps (vsync). I was a bit worried because until now I've always been a supporter of EVGA and Nvidia and they had never done me wrong. After reading about power usage/temps I decided to give ATI a try and I was not disappointed.

Cons: Like I said, I went from Nvidia to ATI. I haven't had enough time to reinstall Windows7 so I just ran Driver Sweeper to get rid of the old drivers. I'm guessing there might be a few things I missed that are conflicting with my new drivers because occasionally I'll get a freeze/crash or the drivers will stop responding and recover. Also, when I OC anywhere passed 950MHz the benchmark programs I use crash or the driver will stop responding. Heat is no issue so I'm assuming it's the drivers and I might just need a clean install of my OS.

Other Thoughts: Over all I love this thing. That's why it gets 5 eggs. When I get another $400 I'm going to crossfire this and probably cry a little bit when I see my Heaven benchmarks go from 45fps to about 80. I'm not too happy about the random crashes I've had and the driver issues but I'm convinced that with a clean install of Windows7 I'll be all good. I know people don't like the noise of this thing but when I crank that fan up to 100% I just think to myself, I don't think I can ever overheat this card.
