1 out of 5 eggs2nd review

Pros: Card worked for 3 years

Cons: The fan stopped working and video card crashes after 5 minutes or so now. Have to repair or replace video card. Docking stars at this point. Ordered a new 970 from Newegg

3 out of 5 eggsDon't recommend this card

Pros: Stability with Windows 7. Ran everything that I threw at it included the latest games at the time 1080p videos. No crashes or problems for 1st two years.

Cons: Size and likely issues with Windows 8 and 8.1 or just started failing after a couple of years. A few months ago after I upgraded to Windows 8, I started to watch Netflix videos again after months of not watching any. Each time I would watch videos in Full screen mode, my screen would suddenly split and I would have to reboot the computer. Since it only happened with Netflix I thought that it was and issue with Silverlight. I've watched 1080p/720p videos on Crunchroll (paid), HuluPlus, and Youtube, as well as non-flash based sources without any video crashes. I've played Graphic intensive games without problems. Finally 1 day, when the card was just 2 or 3 weeks out of warranty, I would find out that it was the card that was causing my issues while watching videos on Netflix. The card finally gave out and now it no longer works once AMD Drivers are installed. Works fine with Generic Drivers that don't support Aero or resolutions above 640x480, but as soon as Windows updates Drivers, or I install the ones from AMD, Video goes out right after logging into Windows. Tried Windows 7, 8, and 8.1. I open up my case every few months and use compressed air to blow out dust and the Video card is always included in this maintenance.
Customer support seemed eager to get me off of the phone once they realized that the card was not in warranty--Told me that because it was not in warranty all that she could do is offer advice and asked me if I tried uninstalling the driver even after I told them that I put the computer back on Windows 7 and Windows 8 while tryingn to get it back up and running. I understand that 3 year warranty means 3 years to the day, but I started the conversation with this had been going on for months and explained that it only crashed with Netflix and tried to explain that I did not watch Netflix often enough to suspect a video card problem. Guess I should have run hardware diagnostics on Video card--did that now and it seems to pass Dos based diagnostics--cannot boot into anything to test with higher end tools. My motherboard is also Asus, and after a while I suspected that it was to blame after it started having issues powering on--I had to flash the BIOS with the same BIOS version to stabilize it and that also seemed to help with the Netflix crashes until a couple of weeks ago when it started back up (not even sure what caused the issues in the 1st place--Nothing had changed on my computer). Prior to this I had watched several videos over the course of a few weeks without issues. Power Supply test show that it is outputting the correct voltages to each device and memory tests all pass.

Other Thoughts: Asus' customer support should work on their listening skills and take the time to read what customers type up if they are going to make us type up a problem description before we call. Out of respect for other techs I don't flaunt my tech knowledge when I call customer support because I'm not an engineer and don't work for each company and understand that their techs will know things that I don't.

Pros: Works well on my 28" monitor, details are sharp

Cons: HDMI port does not have audio working if you want to use a tv as monitor with sound using hdmi cable. 1 star removed from that.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible

Pros: This card has great potential, however I think buying it through Asus was a mistake. I have mostly Asus hardware in my computer.

Cons: This card has malfunctioned and put me through hell and back. I'm so frustrated because I love gaming and was very excited about getting this card. I have run benchmarks, tweaked the bios, everything. Frequently the display driver stops working and everything I'm doing is erased. I have tried different drivers I now have to deal directly with Asus and figure this whole thing out. Extremely frustrated and will NOT go through Asus again.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Quality card

Pros: Worked right out of the box. Installed drivers and utilities with little effort. Comes with ASUS Utility that allows overclocking and voltage control. Currently running and 1000/1125 mhz with no issues. Also enables stepped control of the fan to help control tempurature.

Gives Windows Experience rating of 7.7 stock and 7.8 OC'd.

Cons: Fan is a little noisy on any thing above 35% (low speed).

Cannot set OC settings above 1000mhz on the gpu.

Other Thoughts: Haven't tested it with a game that runs puts an extreme load on it but WOW looks great on Ultra settings and with fan speed control set to stepped keeps the temp below 55 degrees. Able to run bioshock with the above mentioned OC settings quite nicely.

1 out of 5 eggsGood product not so great support

Pros: Ran great, played every game I own beautifully without a hiccup. Looks great. Ran very cool and VERY quite at stock fan settings. Price/Performance.

Cons: I want to star out by saying that this is the first 1 egg review I have ever given.

ASUS RMA support. Product failed after ~ 36 days. I usually don't buy products the day/week they are released for just this reason. It's unfortunate but it does happen even to great companies like ASUS.

However, I've spent almost a month and a half now trying to get ASUS to replace my faulty graphics card to no avail. I'm currently waiting on the phone as I type this review and have not yet been connected to an actual person. Support for their motherboards has been amazing over the years but this has really been a disappointment.

Other Thoughts: I've always bought ASUS products and in the course of 10+ years have never had a problem until now. I wish I could say that I will remain confident in ASUS products as, like I've mentioned, they have always been top notch. But this lack of service and very poor support has left a pretty bad impression on my overall experience as I have been without a graphics card for about a month and a half with no sign at all that my issues will be taken care of due to a product failure on their part.

5 out of 5 eggsBeast Mode

Pros: This thing overclocks like a champ, It stays cool and it processes great. Runs everything I've thrown at it on Max settings, with maxed FPS, I've run WOW, SC2, CoH, LoL and multiple other games. with temps staying around 52 Celsius.

Cons: Fan over 40% sounds like a 747, good thing I have sealed Head cans.

Other Thoughts: Bottom line....Worth every penny.

5 out of 5 eggsAsus ati 6870

Pros: I just went from an ati 5550 to this. Day and night. It is gorgeous. Plays every game I have tried it on at full ultra or better and never drops below 60 fps. i keep my vertical sync turned on and never see that number change with fraps. I play starcraft II wow and cod mw2, need to go get black ops.

also having a nicer graphics card helped reduce stress on my processor. when gaming went from 45C to 40C

Cons: doesn't come with a years supply of steak.

Other Thoughts: I just got the card on monday and have been using it nonstop since. I have never seen it over 71 c whcih was after 2 hours of furmark. i do have a well ventilated case though. which i recommend for anybody looking into any gaming processor and graphics card. This looks gorgeous btw. :)

5 out of 5 eggsBought a second one

Pros: Low power consumption for the performance. Fan ramps up under heavy load but its not too bad. It has to keep the card cool so no objections

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Ran furmark - no problems with this card. Crossfire x works nice
