ASUS GTX580 DirectCU II graphics card introduces exclusive DirectCU II technology which uses copper heat pipes directly contacting the GPU and twin 100mm fans for a massive 600% increase in airflow compared to reference. It also includes ASUS Super Alloy Power technology, which uses a unique alloy formula in power components such as chokes, capacitors, POSCAPs and MOSFETs to ensure a 15% performance boost, 35°C cooler operation and 2.5 times longer lifespan. In addition, ASUS overvolting utility Voltage Tweak allows gamers to realize the full potential of their PC’s graphics performance with an easy to use and intuitive user interface. As you’ve come to expect from a GeForce GTX GPU, ASUS GTX580 DirectCU II packs support for all the premium GTX gaming technologies such as NVIDIA 3D Vision Surround, PhysX, and SLI to offer the ultimate in gaming realism.

  • newegg DirectCU II Based on ASUS DirectCU architecture, which uses copper heat pipes in direct contact with the GPU to speed up heat dissipation for over 20% cooler performance, DirectCU II takes cooling further with twin 100mm fans for 600% airflow. This massive increase in cooling translates into an immediate performance gain, as the card can take on heavier loads. Gamers can also overclock the hardware further thanks to higher tolerances and lower temperatures.

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Has been running for almost 2 years with great performance and no heat problems.

Cons: - Size: It reaches way past the motherboard, which can mean blocking the SATA ports making it difficult to switch them.

Other Thoughts: Shouldn't use this VCard on a vertical case. After more than a year I noticed the videocard leaning downwards, then I noticed I could push it up and down with little force despite been tightly screw-ed. So I decided to lean my case horizontally.

Gave it only 3 starts because of this. I'm pretty sure the videocard or the PCI port would've suffer from this overtime. Is a 5 star for a horizontal case.

4 out of 5 eggsDarn Good Card

Pros: Will play nearly any game on highest no problem.

Cons: It can get loud
It's a bit of a heater (pro in the winter!)
It's so big and heavy it sags a bit.

Other Thoughts: This card has yet to let me down. If for any reason I have an issue it's because I didn't install a new driver, and they always seem to fix any problems I'm having.

5 out of 5 eggsBAM!

Pros: Easy install, great performance. This card does ANY game full settings. I love nvidia and will never go back to ati... I've played wow, call of duty mw3, battlefield 3, portal 2, crisis 1 and 2. It just tears up the competition.

Cons: As far as the mechanics, nothing! Its a great beasty graphics card. But it is huge.... I had to cut out a hard drive slot to get this bad boy to fit in. Just uy a big case or prepare to modify.

Other Thoughts: Wolfenstinow y its inactive. Its a great product and I would rather have one great card than sli 2 decent ones. Would get this card again if it goes active.

2 out of 5 eggsHorrible Experience

Pros: When the card behaves then it is great. I run Final Fantasy 14 at 1920x1200 with everything maxed except for Anti-Aliasing which I put on x2.

Cons: I've owned this for over a year now and I finally got around to checking user reviews and I am having the same issues as they are. The card I got artifacted a lot even under normal temps from time to time. Dealing with Asus support has been horrible. I had good things to say about them before my experience but now I don't think it can be recovered (See below)

Other Thoughts: I sent out my video card to Asus on march 8th via UPS. First off when it gets there Asus never notifies me. I had to do some searching to find that part out. Then it just sits there in 'repair' for 2.5 weeks. Then that status says complete and it sits there for another 1.5 weeks saying 'complete'. Finally out of frustration I call and the representative takes 10 minutes looking to figure out whats going on with my RMA (sign something isn't right) Then they tell me that my card could not be repaired (saw that coming) and that they would swap my card for another. I asked them what they meant and all he told me was "That's for them to determine". So I decided to just wait but then I thought i'd get more answers calling back the next day, wrong. This time the rep actually had to send in a request for a tracking number because it wasn't generated after sitting for week and a half collecting dust. They wouldn't even let me talk to a tech or any one else above them.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Looks nice, ran cool with low temps and ran pretty well.

Cons: Only lasted 2 days.. I was working so really only got about 8 hours of use from it.. if that. Card started showing artifacts and tearing and then bluescreened and refused to load windows and would just get caught in a loop where it would crash my pc, it would reboot only to crash again trying to load into windows. RMA'd the card back to newegg and re-installed my old cards and everything ran fine.

Just recieved my replacement today and installed it. So far so good. Lets hope this one lasts. If so I will add more eggs.

Other Thoughts: Its a great looking card and has some really nice reivews. I bought it because I'm not looking to SLI and wanted something that will OC well and hold low temps. However.. there are a lot of people who are having issues with this card. It seems to be luck of the draw on weather or not you will get a good or bad one.. more so than with most other cards out there.

5 out of 5 eggsThis thing is a beast!

Pros: I can't seem to scare this thing. I have run everything from Battlefield 3 at max settings to the new Kingdoms of Amalur as well as 3 screen multi set up running games/vids on multi screens and it won't even stutter. I was a bit scared at first of buying this card when looking around but now that I have it was so very worth it. The cooling on this thing is astonishing even under full load, ASUS really stepped their game up on this one.

Cons: As others have said the size is somewhat a problem. I have a Dragon Rider case that I used to build this system, which is a very large case and I can't actually close the side door using the stock 220mm fan on the case. I had to modular out the side panel with 120mm fans to work around the GPU PCI power cables. I get why ASUS had to put them on the top of the card but beware if putting in a smaller case. Not worth an egg but noteworthy.

Other Thoughts: Do not let the 1.5gb video memory scare you. I know a lot of newer cards are boasting higher memory but the trade off of cooling and the ability to overclock and manage this card more than makes up for it. Even under max load of Battlefield 3 my GPU monitor says I am using 1/3 of the cards ability. Don't plan to SLI this beat though :-)

5 out of 5 eggsWOW

Pros: Build quality.
Performance.
HDMI port, Display port, and two DVI ports.
A fan for each built in heatsink for cool operation.
HDMI supports both video and audio output.
Includes two 6pin to 8pin PCIe power adapters.

Cons: Size, size, and did I mention its size?

Other Thoughts: Some other reviewers complained about its weight and how it would sag. I on the other hand dont see this as being an issue in my case. It nearly didnt fit into my case and at first I was scared I went too extreme. That I would have to RMA it because of its size. I did manage to get it into my case after a lil effort on my part. I made sure not to pry and bend the card too much. I ended up having to place the port side in first, bend out the back of the case somewhat, and wedge in the other side of the card to get it past the lip of the HD bays. Once I got it past that. It was a tight fit but did have enough room to slide it around to make the PCIe slot match up. Needless to say. It doesnt have room to sag.

i7 2600k (not overclocked yet)
Zalman cnps9700
Arctic Silver 5
G.Skill Ripjaws X series 16gigs (4x4gigs)
ASUS P8P67 EVO
ASUS GTX 580
Rosewill Xtreme 850w
Western Digital Cavier Black 1.5tb 7200 rpm 64mb cache
Samsung Black Blu-Ray Combo
Apevia X-Telstar BL

1 out of 5 eggsPray u never have to RMA

Pros: Looked nice before their RMA department damaged it.

Cons: I am having some of the same problems Adrian is having in dealing with Asus RMA but with a nasty twist. I was having overheating problems (including lockups - with no overclocking)and RMAed my card back to Asus only to have it returned with actual physical damage - a smashed board and large bends in the metal where the screws go to attach to case. It actually got sent back to me that way as the shipping box had no damage at all. Also nothing had been done to the card (outside of damage) the heat sink had never even been removed. RMAed to Jeffersonville, IN

Other Thoughts: I contacted Asus and they sent me a call tag for it but said they do not have stock anymore. The card went back and then nothing. Could not even track via their website. Finally contacted them only to be told "they just checked stock and would get back with me that day".. but didn't. This must be the standard response...?
Not sure what is going on at Asus but this is a scary nightmare as I have only used the card a few days since I bought it over 4+ months ago.
Get any extended warranty Newegg offers (Newegg has always been trust worthy and honorable) if you buy any Asus product and pray you never have to return it to Asus for RMA.
