The ASUS GTX550 Ti DirectCU graphics card offers superior DirectX 11 performance in its class and solid tessellation performance by providing the graphics horsepower and video bandwidth needed to experience games in high resolution. At the heart are 192 CUDA cores, 192-bit 1GB GDDR5 graphics memory along with a refined design offering substantial increase in performance while running cooler and quieter than previous generation GTS 450 GPU.

Factory overclocked to 910MHz, the ASUS GTX550 Ti DirectCU ensures you a better out of the box gaming experience. Award-winning DirectCU cooling design has all-copper heatpipes touch the GPU core directly to improve heat transference, delivering up to 20% cooler operation than reference designs under full load. Coupled with ASUS Super Alloy Power VRM delivery technology used in chokes, capacitors, and MOSFETs, the ASUS GTX550 Ti DirectCU graphics card performs better, runs more stable and cooler, and lasts longer! Rounding out the experience is support for NVIDIA 3D Vision, NVIDIA Surround, PhysX and SLI technologies for an eye-popping, immersive 3D performance in games and movies.

  • newegg DirectCU Precision mounted DirectCU copper heatpipes are in direct contact with the GPU for rapid heat dissipation. The result is 20% cooler under full load and quieter in idle.
  • newegg Super Alloy Power Super Alloy Power technology uses special alloy formula in critical power delivery components like chokes, capacitors, POSCAPs and MOSFETs for a 15% performance boost, 35°C cooler operation and 2.5 times longer lifespan when compared to reference designs.
  • newegg Voltage Tweak Exclusive ASUS Voltage Tweak technology makes it easy for you to increase voltages to the GPU core, video memory and board to raise card speeds by up to 50% faster - a major advantage much sought after by hardcore gamers.
  • newegg Microsoft DirectX 11 Support DirectX 11 GPU with Shader Model 5.0 support designed for ultra high performance in the new API’s key graphics feature, GPU-accelerated tessellation.
  • newegg NVIDIA PhysX Technology Full support for NVIDIA PhysX technology enables a totally new class of physical gaming interaction for a more dynamic and realistic experience with GeForce.
  • newegg NVIDIA 3D Vision, 3D Vision Surround & 2-Way SLI Ready NVIDIA 3D Vision brings a fully immersive stereoscopic 3D experience to the PC. Expand your games across three displays in full stereoscopic 3D for the ultimate “inside the game” experience with the power of NVIDIA 3D Vision and SLI technologies. NVIDIA Surround also supports triple screen gaming with non-stereo displays.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat card for the money

Pros: Bought this thing 3 years ago and it still handles everything I throw at it.
Play modern games at highest settings.
Encoding with Cuda only takes minutes.
Crunches BOINC and F@H at amazing speeds.

Cons: Gets very hot and the fans can get noisy if the rest of the case isn't properly cooled.
Very long. Needs good placement or it runs into bays in the front of the pc. Also can be tricky to plug the PCI-E power in.
Windows 7 still throws off NVIDIA driver errors. Had this problem with the previous build and my 9800 GT. Not sure why after all this time NVIDIA still struggles with this. Not the cards fault, but I am definitely considering AMD again as I did after the 9800 and before this beast. Games will literally crash and every now and then something as simple as facebook and email will do the same. -And I always keep my drivers up to date.

Other Thoughts: Came with an Asus shirt for limited time only. Still have the shirt and it is just as great.

4 out of 5 eggsa decent card

Pros: maintains a decent temperature of around 60c-70c at full load for several hours. handles pretty much everything made before 2010 perfectly. not very loud.

Cons: the only real con i can think of is that it really cant handle anything from 2011 onwards. it can do so at low settings, or unplayable frame rates, but not both.

Other Thoughts: while a decent card, it dosent come close to the current cards. if you can get one of these for 40$, id say pick it up without a pause. otherwise, its not worth buying anymore.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible

Pros: None

Cons: This card ran slower out of the box than my 9600gt. I did not even have the 9600gt overclocked and the 550ti is supposed to be lightyears ahead. I google searched the low framerates and choppyness and you get pages and pages of bad experiences. Stay away at all costs

Manufacturer Response:

Greetings,

What kind of games were you trying to play with this card? Although the card is decent, it may not be able to play certain games at max/ultra settings. If you are interested in getting a card that would be better for high-end gaming, please see our GTX780-3GD5 or GTXTITAN-6GD5. Should you require any assistance with this card or any of our higher-end models, please let me know through email. 3438411.

Regards,

Mark

4 out of 5 eggsI'm not a real gamer

Pros: I'm not the best person to write this review because I never really pushed this card to its limits. I'm not an avid gamer and only bought this board because it gave me a high enough ceiling in case I ever wanted to start playing any MMORPGs. For what it's worth, I've enjoyed having this board installed, but I guess since all I do is basically use the internet and watch videos, it doesn't really get pushed that far. If you're looking for something that works out of the box, this is the card for you

Cons: The only problem I had was during the initial install. For some reason, the drivers wouldn't take and my screen would go blank! I kept having to pull the board, reboot, and then re-install the board EVERY time I would turn the PC off. I finally found the correct driver and the board has been fine ever since. Since upgrading to Windows 8 (and then to 8.1), I've had even LESS problems as the drivers have all been automated centrally.

2 out of 5 eggsNo life span

Pros: personally i like how big the card is and it ran my games pretty well

Cons: it worked for about a good year and a half and now my games are very laggy. My games were slightly laggy but that was because of my unsuitable 2.5 GHz processor but after a year and a half of use there very laggy my card is near its death

5 out of 5 eggsLove it!

Pros: This graphic card is powerful and makes little to no noise!
II simply love it.It was my first time building a pc and it was super easy to install and the temps are always good(by Nvidia standards).
Overall great product!

Cons: None so far.The price was as expected.
Not powerful enough for tessellation in hardcore games but that was expected too.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little card for the price

Pros: I purchased this card for about $110 with a $10 rebate back in December 2012, have not had any issues since. It runs every game I throw at it (paired with a FX-4300 CPU) generally at medium settings.

Cons: It isn't high-end, so don't expect 70fps in games like Crysis and Metro.

Other Thoughts: I plan on upgrading this card soon, but it has definitely been a great card for me. Shame it was discontinued, it was relatively cheap.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat up until now...

Pros: Can run games with very good framerate and more than modest settings. Not too loud of a fan. Good size for my mid-size tower.

Cons: Card started failing on me a couple days ago - things randomly freeze for literally two minutes and then starts responding again - no error reports run but did catch it blaming the video driver once. Tried rolling back and updating again with fresh driver install, didn't work. Reseated card and removed the dust from the inside of the case (wasn't that much!) and still happens. Blips of full-width artifacts 30px high during GTA4 loading screen. Also has been freezing when starting flash video. Really not happy about this happening just over a year of use. Probably going to replace with another manufacturer if it's dying now.
