2 out of 5 eggsWorked for a long time...then...

Pros: HDMI worked well on Windows 7 pro media center.

Cons: Then the thermal issue started to make the card continually crash during performance video playback.
RUNS HOT!
I replaced the heatsink compound and added a fan, which prolonged usefulness but it has gotten worse and I am going to replace it with an AMD chipset.

2 out of 5 eggsWaste of money

Pros: It's pretty good paper weight or door stop.

Cons: This card has abysmal performance. The integrated graphics on my G41 Intel board are just as good. Even the WEI score is the same.
This thing runs extremely hot. It's so hot you would burn you fingers on it. BTW-My case has four 120MM fans, so you know it's a hot card.

Other Thoughts: I bought mine somewhere else.
Spend a little more and get a much better card. You might want to get a nvidia card instead as they have better drivers.
Get a card with a fan!

5 out of 5 eggsAsus is good stuff

Pros: Its a nice low profile card, hooked it up to my tv via HDMI and it dosnt lag 1 bit. cheep as well, payed almost nothing with the rebate.

Cons: it took me some time to figure out how to hook up the HDMI to the tv with sound working, but after installing the right drivers from ati's website it was a sinch.

Other Thoughts: 5 starts for asus, 5 stars for newegg.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks with linux, inexpensive

Pros: Inexpensive card, works ok with linux.

Cons: This card reports PCI ID 1002:68e1, which is the PCI ID of a Manhattan Mobility HD5430 chip, whereas this card is a HD5450. Beware that linux gets confused and thus the power controls on the card do not work with stock linux kernel.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat card for my needs and for the price

Pros: Runs very cool and quiet, supports my HDMI television as a monitor, and integrates well with my OBG display adapter, allowing me to run 3 monitors flawlessly. It's a good quality, solid card for the price.

Cons: Low Windows 7 WEI score for Aero.

Other Thoughts: I use this video card in the computer that I use to design web pages, and which has a 3 monitor display. This card not only handles the two monitors connected to it, but it also integrates perfectly with the on-board display adapter (a ATI Radeon HD 4200 on my Gigabyte motherboard), allowing for seamless transitions from one monitor to another when I move windows about. My last card, sadly, wasn't up to that particular task.

1 out of 5 eggsDoesn't work

Pros: None

Cons: When inserted into my MSI K9AGM, the computer does not POST. It never beeps, and the display never comes up. Using another PCIE card works fine.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I believe this card uses a PCIe 2.1 adapter which may have problems in the PCIe 1.0 slot on the motherboard. Please try using your other PCIe card to download and install the latest BIOS for your motherboard and then try to use this 5450. If you have any questions please contact me at cl-jeremy@asus.com (ref#1043-1606). Thank you.

Regards,
Jeremy

3 out of 5 eggsJust eh

Pros: Card (after rebates) is very inexpensive. Has HDMI and DVI, and it is low profile with both brackets. It is fanless.

Cons: It cannot stream digital cable feed from a HD HomeRun Prime and handle the guide overlay in Windows Media Center (a relatively basic requirement for a HTPC card). Since the guide overlays on top of the video that is playing, the lag becomes terrible. If the video is not playing, the interface works fine.

Other Thoughts: For a budget HTPC build, spend the extra, it will save you a headache. For just a computer to surf the internet, it may be fine, but I would also reccomend dropping the extra on a more powerful card.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk - Low WEI 2.6

Pros: Has HDMI, DVI and VGA

Cons: I bought 2 of these and the WEI (Windows Experience Index) is way too low for a HD 5450 card. I have purchased many other HD 5450 cards in the past and their lowest ratings have been in the 4's. I have tried AMD drivers and ASUS drivers and none help the score. There is something fundamentally wrong with this Card. .

Other Thoughts: Of course I already sent in the rebate so cant return to Newegg ... I guess this is a good way to dump a bunch of bad video cards on buyers without allowing a way to return them. Not cool!

I plan to contact Tech Support to see if they have a solution, but I doubt it.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I am sorry you aren't getting the optimal performance from your HD5450 graphic card. Have you contacted anybody about your issues? If you believe it is a hardware problem, you can RMA it back to Asus as you have a 3 year warranty with that card. Please contact me if you have any questions at cl-jeremy@asus.com with the reference #1043-623. Thank you.

2 out of 5 eggsPCI Express 2.1 ONLY

Pros: Asus Brand and cheep with rebate.

Cons: Very Low WEI score 2.7 is far lower than a 5450 should be but thats the 32 bit bus. Doesn't work in "older" systems that don't have PCIE 2.1. The computers won't boot or may after several attempts. Cost me almost as much in shipping total to RMA for refund as it was supposed to cost me! I have never seen a card thats not backward compatable to older PCIE specs.

Other Thoughts: It didn't make me breakfast and it took my lunch money.
