1 out of 5 eggsSecond review

Pros: runs super cool, super quite, looks great! lots of outputs for eyefinity

Cons: first review i thought i had bad drivers. Turns out just a faulty card. It black screened every now and then when i first bought it. after 8 months so bad that i could even play any games because it black screen of death everytime you start a game

Other Thoughts: I started my first rma in December 2012 (recieved it on the 10th). The gpu came back damaged -no fix. 2nd rma they didn’t fix the damage or the gpu. When i took the gpu out of the box, screws fell out. All the screws in the back plate were loose to the point where they were almost falling out and the pci-e bracket screws fell out. After that I was supposed to get a new replacement card. I’m still waiting as of 4-17-2013. They told me to send my card as soon as I got my new advanced rma with tracking so they could send a new gpu when it’s in transit. That’s not what really happened. First I sent the card by the rma instructions. When mine was in transit the replacement was supposedly shipped. Turns out it failed testing and they didn’t bother to tell me that it really did not ship. So my gpu was received and they decided to repair it. They have had the card since March 8th 2013th. On top of all this I’ve been lied too, received vague replies from tech support and escalation mailbox people. So vague I had to call to find out what was going on (everyday I’ve called). They have taken way too long to repair or send replacement. After each rma it was sent back within a week. I’ve was without my card for almost 5 months!!!! 60 bucks gone in shipping!!! They wont give me a number to anyone I can talk to besides tech support. They don't care one bit. PASS ON THIS CARD!! PASS ON ASUS IN LESS THE REVIEWS ARE ALL GOOD or Pass on taking the chance of this happening to you.

1 out of 5 eggsFalse Marketing, Locked Voltage,

Pros: Card has a fantastic cooler even included VRM heatsink for LN2 clocking etc

Cons: Garbage software, BIOS is voltage locked and tied into their motherboards, limiting the features on the card. Whats more some are lucky the BIOs has unlocked voltage others are not so lucky. Review samples had unlocked voltage as well. So most people saw a fantastic card that ran quiet overclocked well but when they went to buy it they didn't get what they paid for.

Other Thoughts: Will never again by an ASUS product, over priced, over hyped, lackluster support and false marketing. I paid top dollar for a TOP edition what i got was a raw deal.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Cards > Reccomended

Pros: Quite and run well... Bought 2x Top DC II's, one came DOA... Replacment works perfect (these things happen dont knock eggs off because of a DOA)

Both cards do 1125mhz / 6000mhz Stock to problem
Both cards do 1250mhz 1.2v no problem (havent tried Higher yet)

Going to watercool them with EK blocks shortly

Upgraded from 3x GTX480 @ 900mhz and notice MASSIVE diffrence 40-55fps (3way GTX480) vs 90-140fps (7970 x 2)

This is the first time ever owning AMD cards always been NVIDIA ... but as i was getting destroyed by the 1.5gb vram on GTX480 there was no way I was spending more money on a GPU (GTX680) with only 2gb VRAM...Playing BF3 2560x1440 maxed I use 2.3gb VRAM..... These cards are completly worth it over the GTX680 for the added VRAM if you play on displays bigger than 1080p and want some future proofing

Cooler works well on GPU's see top temps 80deg OC (1250mhz)

Love the full Display ports not mini ones as on stock 2560x1440 dells work no worries with DP (other than

Cons: VRM temps could be better one card runs 90deg VRM whislt other runs 70deg VRM ... unsure why the discrepency maybe poor thermal pad contact on the higher temp card

Not all the DP connections support 2560x1440 + screen sizes (didnt know this and cant see it on the product page)

Other Thoughts: In buying a OC or premium card you are not guaranteed OC above what they sell them at ie 1000mhz in this case... It is luck otherwise ASUS would sell every card at 1250mhz

And dont complain about size or its 3-slots etc you know what you are buying and there are measurments avialabe

for top teir card Great buy for the money and hope I get the use out of them like my GTX480's

and as a Tip have a solid gap between the cards in X-fire and good airflow as they can get very hot very quickly

3 out of 5 eggslooks nice, but was disappointingly slow

Pros: looks great
is quiet
better than anything else Ive ever owned
nice packaging

Cons: despite buying the better TOP model, performance was shown to be worse than stock models of the same graphics card, which was kinda dissapointing

Other Thoughts: its huge

3 out of 5 eggsquiet - but dissapointing performance

Pros: The card is quiet, cool, aesthetically pleasing, and much faster than anything I've used before

Cons: Dissapointing bench results and frame rate, considering I stretched to get a TOP card I was dissapointing with it being outperformed by reference 7970's it only benched 7500 in 3dmark11 when reference pulls 8000, dont know If I just recieved a faulty chip. in addition to this the on disk software GPU-Z hard locks my computer, which forces me to hard shut down
generally however asus does a good job in my past experience, not to mention

Other Thoughts: nice packaging also

1 out of 5 eggsdo NOT buy

Pros: Nothing

Cons: I have had THREE of these cards sent to me all were defective. They caused black screen crashes, I tested the memory on all and all were bad. I like ASUS but they have really let me down on this card.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear AK,

Can you tell me what you doing when you experienced the crashes, games, benchmark, idling? Lately there have been problems with AMD Drivers, have you updated them? how about beta drivers? You can contact me at (ref#1043-2170) if you would like to troubleshoot your issues.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Card - Some downsides

Pros: This card runs extremely cool, even when put under severe pressure. I do constant parallel computing keeping this card at 100% usage 24/7 and keep it overclocked at 1190MHz. It remains stable and sitting at about 80C in the summer. That may sound hot, but when you're doing constant high-intensity calculations (far more than any game would do) it's very impressive. In 3D applications I did not see this card exceed 60C.

For overclockers, I was able to get this card to 1190MHz without touching voltage. I'm sure it could go further if you wanted to play with the voltage a bit; I've heard of people breaking 1300. The on-board voltage control mechanism is really neat for those of you EE types that really want fine-grained control and configurability.

Cons: It seems like underclocking this card is a little more difficult. I attempted to reduce voltage and memory clock. The memory clock refuses to go much lower, and the voltage does not seem to be able to be controlled by software, in either direction. (Even with the provided software.)

Honestly, the provided utility to overclock the card is not particularly useful. I ended up just using MSI Afterburner which handles the card. The provided tool has very low limits that the card can easily exceed.

I was also not able to get this card to work with an nvidia card on the same system. Most will ask "well why would you do this" and it won't be relevant, but again, I do parallel computing and would have liked to see both be able to work in the same system. Alas, it seems when both are in, either one or the other fails to be properly detected.

Other Thoughts: If you're willing to shell out the cash, this card can really put out some impressive numbers.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat card not so great drivers

Pros: this card is great fast and can handle anything you throw at it VERY happy i bought it
gets high fps on everything no problems at all aside from the mass amounts of drive bugs but thats not the fault of asus or the card

anyone who is having issues blame drivers not the card go download the rc11 drivers or try some other drivers before blaming the card so far the only ones fully supporting the 7970 are 12.6 and they are bad cause artifacts and many other things (much like everyone is sending them back for) so go download rc11 for 7970

even with driver issues my opinion is this card is 100% worth every penny

Cons: had major driver issues BSOD's artifacts crashing freezing you name it just like many other people here but it wasnt the cards fault its the drivers AMD's drivers arent ready for this monster yet download the RC11 JUST for this card (7970) upside freezing artifacts bsod's all of that goes away its not the cards fault people bad side cant get amd's control center to work with the rc11 driver but oh well card works so if you're having problems dont jump straight to blaming the card or asus download some new drivers like the rc11 version (only one ive got to work right)

Other Thoughts: here is the rc11 link for people experiencing issues with the current drivers they are a bit outdated but the only ones ive been able to get working properly with the card

2 out of 5 eggsBlack screen crash

Pros: Fast

Cons: I kept having random freezes when I wasnt doing anything in depth. Turns out it was due to BAD RAM on the one I received, I have sent it back RMA and I currently waiting for a replacement. I

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsThis card is a "little" monster

Pros: - quiet
- lots of output connctions (though, its a challange to make them all work, there is a lot that manufacters dont tell u. Such as u cant run more than 2 legacy monitors unless u use active display port.
- card is quieter than my previous 2x560ti dc2 (by doing this swap, I did not gain much performance, but I hated Nvidia switch SLI on / off ,it used to mess up with the screens every single time)
- bios that switches between normal DC2 and DC2 TOP card ,cool (display connections change a little bit upon switching)
- DC2 cooler is nice
- latest technologies , open CL 1.2 , directX 11.1 + a lot of other techs
- memory, YES memory !
- scores 3dMark11 P8400 . With i7 3770k , both cpu and gpu stock clocks
- luckily, I had none of the problems people were mentioning with the drivers (I use CCC 12.4)

Cons: - this card hates my nvidia 210 which i use for other monitors, so I had some deep freezes when opening GPU-Z . Tech power gpu does not even open
- Coil noises , or whatever it is , I heard whining, Now this is not a big problem, since hearing the electricity going through the card it is actually cool, but I am not sure that it is a normal behaviour on a supposed high end product
- on paper it supports up to 6 monitors, in reality, unless u have same monitors with display port, good luck configuring more than 2 monitors

Other Thoughts: Happy with it. I bought this because ASUS DC2 Nvidia GTX680 was nowhere to be found.

It was lame from Nv , but who cares, we have HD7970 !!!
