3 out of 5 eggsOccupies TWO PCI slots

Pros: works

Cons: When I unpacked it, I realized that it occupies TWO PCI slots. Read specification:

> Slot Width: Single Slot

So specifications are misleading. Sorry, ASUS!

Other Thoughts: When you purchase on-line you rely on specifications. Putting misleading
info is a serious sin. That is why I took two eggs out.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks good right off the bat

Pros: Works good on an small form factor I set up for my mom on a 22 inch monitor. The computer has an intake fan that blows right across the heat sink, which was a happy coincidence. It has been working great and no issues for any of the applications she uses the computer for. She does not play games or use other programs that put a big load on a video card.

Cons: Disconnecting the VGA port when changing over to the low profile bracket was an unexpected problem. As noted by others, the heat sink sits over the connector, which makes removing the cable a little difficult. We are not using the VGA so I did not want to deal with using another slot just to have the VGA port out the back on the second bracket they provide just for low profile set ups. It was smooth sailing after this little issue was resolved.

4 out of 5 eggsGood for Silence, but Runs Hot

Pros: Without fans, the card is obviously silent - which is ideal for an HTPC build. Expect smooth 1080p resolution, 5.1 audio, and light graphics out of this. It isn't going to run any of the latest titles at max settings, but streaming from another computer on the network through Steam easily steps around this limitation.
I have gotten it to run some emulators like Project64 without much trouble. Although - as is the case with emulation - not all graphic plugins are created equal.

Cons: The tradeoff for sacrificing fans is that this card will idle warm (~50 - 55 C) and run hot under any load (~ 60 - 74 C).
Putting on the low-profile adapter was a little difficult since it requires removing the VGA connector from the card - which is partially covered by the heatsink. There are spring-loaded screws that connect the heatsink to the card, so there's just enough wiggle room to get the connector off but I had to apply enough force that I was concerned about damaging the card. No problems though. You could also unmount the heatsink, but that turns a simple bracket switch into a more time-consuming task.

Other Thoughts: I have noticed that keeping the case out in an open, well air-conditioned room helps tremendously and reduces the temps above by as much as 10 degrees. If you're like me and building an HTPC, you plan to put the case in a media cabinet and only so much airflow will reach it and the temps I stated are what you should expect.
The bottom line is that this little card is very versatile and packs a lot of power for its size. It would not be suited for a gaming PC, but you wouldn't be looking at this right now if that is what you are building. It does everything I hoped it would do, although the heat my shorten its life over time.

5 out of 5 eggscool and fast

Pros: The card runs very cool with zero noise. I ran Folding@Home on it for a day at stock clocks and it did not go above 59 C ever. It also uses very little power, I got it to upgrade a Dell which had an old ATI card, and it works fine with the OEM PSU.

Cons: None. The cooler is large but that keeps the card really cool. If you want a single or dual slot card, get one with a fan.

Other Thoughts: Great upgrade for a stock Dell.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for my XBMC boxes

Pros: Does a 1080p screen without challenges, delivers Dolby® TrueHD™ and DTSHD™ Master Audio capabilities (works with XBMC pass-through), Dead silent for an HTPC since there is no video card fan.

Cons: For my purpose, I can't think of any.

Other Thoughts: Dependable card for an XBMC build. tested with Ver 12 and 13 Beta 1. You will like it.

3 out of 5 eggsDon't Buy ASUS Products

Pros: Seems to be an excellent performer for its price class.
Works very nicely where ultra-fast "gaming" performance isn't required.

Cons: Unfortunately, ASUS doesn't honor its advertised mail-in rebates! Certainly not in my case, and apparently in many others' as well, based on a simple web search.

Other Thoughts: If a manufacturer refuses to honor a rebate, even though the customer has followed required procedure TO THE LETTER, then I consider the company to be dishonest and I will not do business with them again! That is my opinion regarding ASUS. I will not do business with them again, and I recommend others do the same! Do some web searches on "ASUS rebate" & "ASUS Customer Support" and see for yourselves, BEFORE you buy!

Manufacturer Response:

Greetings,

5 out of 5 eggsGood

Pros: Good, works great. Drivers are the best I've seen even compared to AMD and I own AMD parts. Don't get me wrong AMD drivers are decent when you can find the one that doesn't crash then it is good. This one does it automatically so it was extremely convenient.

Cons: None. It's ASUS they have great reps for quality. :)

Other Thoughts: None to say. Other than the heatsink was too big that I had to make space for it on my old Dell GX280, but I wouldn't take an egg away for that. So I couldn't be able to leave my sound card in, but oh well. It there is anything wrong I will leave another commet for now I've trusted ASUS all this time and they haven't let me down once.

5 out of 5 eggsASUS GT610-SL-1GD3 video card

Pros: Dead quiet
Low power consumption
3 different types of input ports
Excellent picture quality with smooth playback

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: This is being used in an older system that I converted to an HTPC system. It replaced a 9800GT to reduce the noise level...dead quiet! I'm using the hdmi port and haven't noticed any problems with video playback or sound and picture quality is excellent. I was surprised to find that this card is good enough to play World of Warcraft MOP. I've noticed a minimum 26fps in the busy cities and generally between 70-84fps in world areas and dungeons, running 1920x1080 windowed mode with most game settings at Good. Not as good as my gaming pc but not too shabby either, definitely playable. Gpu temp has not exceeded 66C.

6 year old system is comprised of the following components, with exception of video card and case fan;

Foxconn 6150BK8MC-KRSH motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ cpu
ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 64 Pro cpu cooler
Kingston 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 - 3GB total
KINGWIN ABT-450MM 450W power supply
ASUS DRW-1814BL R dvd burner/player
KINGWIN CF-012LB 120mm case fan x 1
ASUS GT610-SL-1GD3-L video card

4 out of 5 eggsNice Upgrade Video Card

Pros: Bought this to upgrade from the Radeon 4200 HD MoBo chipset on my HP Pavilion p6653W which was much to slow for limited gaming. I was able to play Dawn of War II with a much faster frame rate and smoother interface. Looking forward to trying other games with this GPU. Although not intended for gaming it does work pretty darn good so far. Very easy to install.

Cons: Had a little trouble updating to the most current drivers. Driver update failed forcing windows to purge the driver installed from CD that came with it. I had to reinstall driver from CD

Other Thoughts: Works just fine out of the box with drivers from included CD installed. Will contact nVidia to see why updated driver failed to install.
