Enjoy the power of NVIDIA 28nm Kepler architecture for a new level of gaming enjoyment in the latest DirectX 11 title, with the ASUS GT640-2GD3 graphics card. This GeForce GT 640 VGA card renders mind-blowing lifelike graphics and immersive 3D game like you have never experienced it before. An assortment of NVIDIA technology such as NVIDIA Adaptive Sync, NVIDIA Surround and FXAA Anti-aliasing Mode offers you more than one way to elevate your gaming experience. The sophisticated ASUS design including super alloy components and dust-proof fan ensures best in class durability and reliability for trouble-free gaming even during the most demanding environments.

  • newegg Super Alloy Power Premium alloys inside power delivery components defeat the heat for cards that run better, cooler, and longer than reference.
  • newegg Dust-proof Fan Unique fan design dissipates heat efficiently while extending a graphic card’s lifespan by 25% (for reference) through increased dust and particle resistance.
  • newegg GPU Tweak GPU Tweak utility helps you modify and tune clocks, power consumption targets, voltages, and fan performance via an intuitive interface. Detailed specs and actual card status are available with GPU-Z. Monitoring widget provides real-time and detailed multi-parameter info. Automatically check and update drivers and BIOS versions. Sync GPU clocks and voltages for easier overclocking.
  • newegg Kepler GPU Architecture NVIDIA's Kepler GPU architecture has been designed from the ground up not just for maximum performance, but optimal performance per watt. The new SMX streaming multiprocessor is twice as efficient as the prior generation and the new geometry engine draws triangles twice as fast. The result is world class performance and the highest image quality in an elegant and power efficient graphics card.
  • newegg NVIDIA Adaptive Vertical Sync Nothing is more distracting than framerate stuttering and screen tearing. The first tends to occur when framerates are low, the second when framerates are high. Adaptive V-Sync is a smarter way to render frames. At high framerates, V-sync is enabled to eliminate tearing, at low frame rates, it's disabled to minimize stuttering. It gets rid of distractions so you can get on with gaming.
  • newegg NVIDIA CUDA Unlocks the power of GPU’s processor cores to accelerate the most demanding system tasks

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for 3 monitors

Pros: 2xDVI + 1xHDMI - I have two of these in two rigs in my house, each setup has dual montiors on the DVI's with the 3rd going to a big screen LED TV via HDMI. Can play BluRay's and high bitrate Bluray .mts or mkv rips on the third monitor while doing everything else on the other two simultaneously, no lag. Not a gamer so I cant comment there, but I do heavy Premiere and Photoshop editing, and it has never once stuttered.

Cons: Not SLI complaint

5 out of 5 eggsLinux compatibility

Pros: I wanted to go from two to three monitors. Cards that will run three monitors under Linux are scarce and expensive. I found a couple of people who mentioned this 640 worked for them, so I bought this one.

I hooked up two DVI monitors and a VGA monitor; I don't have anything to plug the HDMI port to. openSUSE 13.2 came up and spread KDE across six feet of monitor. Easy-sleazy; no configuration file editing, no video utility program, it just worked.

I have no idea how its gaming performance is, but it plays HD movies just fine on one monitor while I have a sheaf of windows open on the others.

I'm using the default NVidia driver provided with my Linux distribution, not the "real" one from NVidia. Though I've had other, older cards that wouldn't drive two monitors without linking the NVidia binary in, the new Linux driver seems to handle multiple monitors flawlessly.

I am very happy with the card.

Cons: The card is quite large, takes one slot, and since it takes two backplane openings, it may block access to another. If you have any other expansion cards you need to look at where your PCIx3 slot is in relation to the others; motherboard manufacturers seem to be economizing on slots nowadays.

This isn't unusual for medium to high end cards nowadays, but not all motherboard makers seem to have taken the hint yet.

Other Thoughts: The jump from two monitors to three isn't as awesome as going from one to two, but it's definitely work it, as cheap as monitors are nowadays.
