5 out of 5 eggssuper value, excellent asus customer service

Pros: Silent, delivers on promise to playback HD content under Linux. Using Ubuntu 12.04 with NVIDIA 304.?? drivers (whatever's in the repos). Doesn't even seem to really heat up past 50 C, maybe less. I'm using it with a Panasonic 720p projector via HDMI, if that helps.

Cons: None that come to mind.

Other Thoughts: ASUS processed my rebate form even though I sent the materials about 2 days late. I didn't expect that, so here I am writing this glowing review. Well done, ASUS.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat for what it is

Pros: Runs great, haven't had any problems with the card for the year I have had it. It is a great card for just about any workstation.

Cons: The only big mishap I had with this card is from tightening the VGA d-sub cable to much which caused the connectors that hold the cable in place to come out.

Other Thoughts: This card is good for a workstation, as a new coming PC gamer it was a huge mistake to get this card as it does not perform well in gaming, but you get what you pay for.

5 out of 5 eggsVery smart and versitile card

Pros: low profile-ready, silent (fanless), cheap, very versitile, on Linux works immediately using the standard open-source Nouveau driver.

Cons: Not a fault of the card, but the open-source Nouveau driver doesn't have 100% 3D support (yet). Some compositing features not supported by Nouveau in KDE4, and Gnome3 ends up in compatability mode for the same reason. All these limitations can be overcome by installing the proprietary Nvidia driver.

Other Thoughts: I was going to purchase the 1GB RAM version of this card but switched to the 2GB version after noticing that the 2GB version was just $5 more and everything else _seemed_ to be the same, even though the 1GB version was marked as being "low profile ready" but the 2GB version wasn't.

Worked with Linux out of the box, worked with the Nouveau driver. A fair amount of 3D functionality works with the Nouveau driver, and I'm sure 3D performance would be a lot better with the proprietary Nvidia driver.

Happy with the card so far. Deployed it in a standard Workstation box with an AMD FX-9300 CPU and so far I and the user are both happy with the card.

2 out of 5 eggsNOT Happy with Rebate

Pros: Card is the right type and price I need for my new Media PC - but it was the rebate that attracted me to it.

Cons: Put in for the Rebate, that is $10 off the card, valid until after June 31, 2013 and just found out that the rebate is an American Express gift card - what a rip-off !

Other Thoughts: Years ago, manufacturers sent you a check for the amount of the rebate, they offered for your purchase of their product and it was a done deal but now instead of cash, they give you a Gift Card that you are forced to use to make another purchase, hopefully for another of their product or something from the retailer offering it.
I would not mind if ASUS was upfront on how the rebate was to be offered but what they did is they hid it, by having you download a PDF that had a link to a web site, where you had to put in that you had purchased their product already before they revealed that you were getting a "gift card" for the purchase of their product. Had ASUS been upfront about the "Gift Card" rebate - I would have skipped this product - now I am going to skip buying ASUS products all together, as they have lost my trust in being a reliable and trustworthy computer parts supplier.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Ned,

I am sorry you did not like the card you received as your form of rebate. The Terms and Conditions of the rebate do specify that anything over $5 would be in the form of a Reward Card. You are free to use the card anywhere, similar to that of a debit card. The exceptions state that the card cannot be used at cruise lines, for recurring billing charges, at casinos, or ATMs. You can use the card in any other way aside from those exceptions.

Again, I apologize if you do not agree with the policy. If you would like to discuss this further, you can contact me at and I will be happy to assist you.

1 out of 5 eggsHDMI Output Chip Failure, Warranty Request Ignored

Pros: Powerful
Consumer little power

Cons: HDMI Output Chip Failed in about 6 month. Worst of all, my warranty request is acknowledged but then ignored.

Other Thoughts: HDMI Output Chip Failed in about 6 month. Worst of all, my warranty request is acknowledged but then ignored.
Last week, when I was in the middle of using the computer, my screen went dark. After I connect the monitor to the VGA port of the Asus video card, or use DVI to HDMI adapter on the same HDMI cable, my monitor works fine. It is clear that the HDMI output chip on this video card failed.
Then I went to ASUS website, filled out a warranty request online, and get acknowledgement through an e-mail. Then nothing happened. My telephone call to ASUS support was directed to soothing music, then I was disconnected.
It is obvious that ASUS has abandoned the video card business. Not only has they ignored the quality of their products, they also openly ignored the warranty service requested by US law.
To be fair, other companies specialized in computer parts are equally bad in these area. I just hope that ASUS may be better. Well, I was wrong.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes the Job!

Pros: Does a great job for me! Not a Gamer.

Cons: Low Windows Experience Index marks of 4.6 so might not be the card for power users, but for me its fine.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for the price

Pros: This is a great card for the price. It's obviously missing some bells and whistles, but for a budget card it does the trick. Skyrim autodected high settings with Antialiasing all the way up and Anisotropic filtering at 8 samples. The overclocking and monitoring software that comes with it is really functional and well laid out.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Seems to be a good board for those that want a good cheaper video card that don't plan on any SLI or Crossfire in their near future.

5 out of 5 eggsworks better than i thought

Pros: it's all it can be and more, its great looking in the case and has inspired me to build a completely fan-less system next.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for HTPC setups!

Pros: Put this in my HTPC and works great! Picture quality is amazing! Really impressed with this card! ASUS and NVIDIA work great together, always my first choice! I love these fanless cards because there are no little hard to find fans to break down and replace. Also they are completely silent which is a big plus for an HTPC setup. I'm using this one with a 60 inch Sony so its doing just fine. I downloaded the newest drivers from the NVIDIA website to use with this.

Cons: Not really a big one for me, but the cooling fins are so big and so close to the motherboard once installed, that I had to do a little modification to them, because there is a huge capacitor on the motherboard that it was rubbing against. I was able to get a pair if needle nose pliers and bend 2 of the fins away from the capacitor so they didnt touch together. Other than that, no other cons.

Other Thoughts: This is a fanless video card, which means you really need a good air flow within your case. This thing really does heat up a lot when in use, so make sure you have a good air flow close to it, or around it so it stays cool. Mine is right beside an exhaust fan so it stays nice and cool. Usually stays around 42C when watching TV. I cant believe how good this thing works. The picture quality is better than my Tivo's or cable company's Motorola DVR hands down. ASUS and NVIDIA always make high quality products!
