ROG MATRIX HD 7970, the choice of champion, delivers jaw-dropping game thrills thanks to extreme overclocking.

Top-selected and factory-overclocked to 1100 MHz frequency, the ASUS ROG MATRIX HD 7970 continues the ROG tradition of catering to overclockers who want the fastest and smoothest performance. Along with amazingly colossal 3GB GDDR5 memory, this card delivers monstrous performance that brings you into new level of realism in the hottest HD titles. Add to its already dazzling graphics power, customers get VGA Hotwire and the TweakIt interface, with one-press 100% fan speed settings for hardware-level overvolting. DIGI+ VRM digital controllers and Super Alloy Power components form the basis of massive 20-phase power delivery. Exclusive GPU Tweak has been enhanced for ROG duty, adding GPU loadline calibration and VRM tuning to an already full range of parameters. No need to worry about the thermal performance - ASUS DirectCU design ensures top level cooling performance, with extreme quietness.

  • newegg VGA Hotwire Exclusive VGA Hotwire allows you to plug and solder wires on the card’s voltage regulators and accurately read and control Vcore, Vmem, and PLL voltages from ASUS ROG MBs on a hardware level.
  • newegg DIGI+ VRM with 20-phase Super Alloy Power MATRIX HD 7970 is built with carefully-designed massive 20-phase power delivery, unmatched by any other graphics card for the ultimate in performance and spectacular power delivery. This ensures ample room for experimental performance tuning, as its DIGI+ VRM digital voltage regulation design augments precision overclocking capabilities, which are further supported by the use of hardened Super Alloy Power capacitors, chokes, and MOSFETs. These components are forged under extreme pressure and temperatures to increase reliability, power output, and overall card lifespan while eliminating bothersome choke buzzing noise, unlike much tamer reference cards. All these and more enable the absolute best in overclocking potential and experience.
  • newegg DirectCU II ASUS DirectCU thermal design utilizes all-copper heatpipes so heat is removed efficiently. DirectCU II generates 6X greater airflow yet performs 3X quieter (equivalent to 14dB) than reference in idle and full load thanks to dual 100mm sound-dampening fans.
  • newegg Comprehensive On-board Control Buttons TweakIt provides flexible overclocking control even when gaming or running benchmarks! The + and - buttons put overvolting adjustments at your fingertips, with more power translating into the faster and smoother gaming you crave and the winning edge you require for intense multiplayer and competitive benchmarking. Turbo Fan Activator instantly trigger the dual 100mm fans to 100% speed regardless of driver settings. This proves very useful in extreme overclocking and other heavy workload scenarios where rapid heat evacuation and max cooling are a must. The Safe Mode button resets the graphics card back to default frequencies and BIOS settings. This is a very useful feature for hardware enthusiasts and experimental tuning - think of it like the motherboard's clear CMOS function.
  • newegg GPU Tweak Easily fine-tune core and memory clocks, voltages, and fan settings intuitively via sliders or manual value entry. MATRIX HD 7970 arrives with a new ROG edition of GPU Tweak, which adds detailed GPU loadline calibration and VRM frequency tuning, allowing for the most extensive control and adjustment parameters for maximum overclocking potential. MATRIX LED Load Indicator A color-coded LED MATRIX indicator at the back of the ROG MATRIX graphics card gives real time and easy-to-understand visual display of the current GPU workload, with colors changing dynamically depending on your card’s work load.

1 out of 5 eggsProblems from install

Pros: Card didn't run too hot or too loud. Pushed everything on ultra from bf4 and cod:ghosts to me3 and coh2.

Cons: After 1 month started having pixelation artificing issues. Changed hdmi but no success. Kept causing huge issues. Bought a new monitor to try and remedy to no avail. Tried driver wipe and starting fresh same issues. Sent in ticket with ASUS no response. Tried calling never got in touch with them bc of bad weather so they said. Have gotten the run around a few times hope to get sorted out soon.

3 out of 5 eggsCan't Crossfire with air cooling.

Pros: Fast Card

Cons: Hot alone by itself and I have the side of my case open. I just built a new system and bought 2 of these to crossfire. Well you cannot crossfire them because they sit too close together and the top card gets extremely hot. And if you want to move the bottom card down a slot you need a 120mm crossfire. Sapphire tech are the only ones who make 120mm crossfire bridges and they are for their customers only. SO this card being "crossfire ready" is a lie. its only crossfire ready if you are able to install a custom loop liquid cooling system which I now have to drop my money into if i want my system to run the way i want it to. Also talked to ASUS customer service about it and let them know that Sapphire was ahead of them with the bridges and the issue with my cards. they told me sorry we can't help you. ASUS makes a good product but there customer service isn't worth anything. Hopefully sapphire puts them out of business very soon.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome card, but even better on water...

Coming Soon!

Pros: Performance, Aesthetics, Brand, 20 Phase Control. This car is amazing for the price to performance ratio.

Cons: Triple Slot if running more than 3 in a system. Direct CUII Heatsink in my opinion is the limiting factor for this card. It does all it can on air, but once water cooled or LN2, that is when this card really starts to stretch it's legs. The only other thing about is card is, it is a power hog. For the performance gained, it is understandable.

Other Thoughts: Water cooling my Asus 7970 Matrix Platinum with a custom bracket to retain the MATRIX LED shroud.

Overclocked to:
Core 1275MHz
Memory 1850MHz (7400MHz Equivalent)

Max temp using Furmark = 52c, Normal temps while gaming is 45c. Running three 24" monitors in Eyefinity with no problem at all. I do think the Stock Direct CUII heat sink is a great cooler, but not as efficient as water cooling.

3DMark11 = P12077
3DMARK Vantage = P40225
Firestrike = 8228

1 out of 5 eggsAsus and Newegg bad combo

Pros: Has the ability to drive 6 monitors. Looks impressive. Lots of memory

Cons: Looks are deceiving. Dead from the start. Took took too long to detect bad product. Motherboard bad from newegg and could not test video board. Rebate time was running out so sent in for the rebate (rebate offer was over 10/30). When motherboard came back, installed it and no video. Found an older video card and tested motherboard. everything worked so I knew the video board was bad. Sent it back for replacement but because the rebate had been sent in they would not replace the card. Now its over a month and still my computer sits waiting to run. So here I sit with a bad video card from ASUS (the motherboard was an ASUS also) and almost $400 wrapped up in a mess. I spent almost $2000 and I have been a customer of Newegg since 2002. I have had friends ask me to build computers for them and I had always had them order from Newegg.

Other Thoughts: Buy locally. From now on its up to Mirocenter to make my purchases. I can deal warranty issuesm locally as to having to wait weeks to find out that there is no support.

5 out of 5 eggsBEAST MODE

Pros: This, so far, has handled max settings of Skyrim, Dota2, and TF2 while yawning. Easily 60 fps or more. Great performance all around.

Worked like a boss immediately. Drivers work great. No headaches.

Cons: This card is -huge-. It was just a few millimeters too big for my case (Full Tower ATX), so I had to cut some of the case out (it was a floppy drive bay, not important).

Other Thoughts: Built this in a new computer with:
16GB Ram
4-core 3.6 Ghz Intel CPU
