3 out of 5 eggsGood, Not Great

This review is from: ASUS GTX650-E-1GD5 GeForce GTX 650 1GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card

Pros: Low profile, minimal power consumption, awesome cooling for the power.

Cons: Lack-luster preformance.
I have a 3.8ghz quad AMD (oc to 4.2ghz stable)
16 gb ddr3 Vengeance Ram
dual HD 1 tb config (1 primary/gaming, 1 storage)
ASrock mobo

This system has been upgraded since initial purchase, however i purchased this card on newegg and noticed decent gains over my previous nvidia card (also asus brand), but nothing that really justified the price difference for me.

I attempted to run some current gen games and was unable to raise the settings above high (no ultra/extreme) which i expected, however i NEVER saw FPS exceed 30 on any game i played, so long as the settings were at or above "medium" defaults.

I play a list of games regularly, however the most played currently were EQ2, WoW, FF14RR, and Battlefield 4.

BF4 was unplayable, and the rest could not exceed 30 fps no matter the settings with my gaming rig.

I recently decided that i would change my ways and try ATI/AMD video cards for once... and without changing anything but the card, i gained over 50 fps in all games running most of them at maximum settings. thats not 50 fps total, thats the normal 30 fps + an additional 50, just by changing to an XFX R7 260X AMD graphics card... which can be purchased for a mediocre cost difference when the gains are considered....

Other Thoughts: My advice... if you are on a budget, and have a motherboard that is designed specifically for nvidia, this is the card for you. If you have the extra $30... go with a better card.

My thoughts, while posting this... my motherboard supports both Xfire and SLI, so theoretically, my performance from either brand should have been similar. I am entirely unsure why this card performed so poorly. I give +1 egg (2 +1) strictly because i have NEVER had a single ASUS brand card fail on me to the point of zero functionality. These cards tend to be either Rock Solid or DOA, and the DOA is very rare, so basically, 3/5 rather than 2/5 strictly because of ASUS' design for cooling and efficiency on the graphical cards.

Manufacturer Response:

Greetings,

Thank you for your review.

Please keep in mind that this card offers starting-level to mid-level performance and should be used accordingly. Moreover, this card is a excellent for mid-level uses, but it was not designed to play graphic intensive games at ultra settings. So if you are going to use this card for games like Battlefield 4, you would have to change the graphic settings to suit this card. Should you have any questions about the performance of any of our cards, please let me know. 3684136.

Regards,

Mark

5 out of 5 eggsLove it

This review is from: ASUS GTX650-E-1GD5 GeForce GTX 650 1GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card

Pros: I am not really a big gamer, I am more of a mutimedia junkie. I have a 24 inch Asus monitor, and a 50 inch TV. I can watch movies in hi def on the big screen while im working on my computer. The games I do play look great.

Cons: A minor inconvenience. I have it plugged to the big screen with a 10 foot hdmi cable and to my monitor with dvi. The card will automatically boot with the hdmi no matter what when something is plugged into it even though that monitor might be shut off in settings. So every time i turn my computer my bios screen and password want to pop up on my tv even though it is usually not even on. Not a big deal but i dont like it. I bought a $10 hdmi switch to put between the tv and computer and problem solved! And since it is an older tv it has only 1 hdmi slot anyways so i was having to switch out between computer and xbox 360 every time. I needed that switch anyways.

Other Thoughts: I do wish there was a way to tell the card which output to use when you turn the computer on but this is not enough of an issue to take an egg away. Really, what it does is the only thing that makes sense....it boots up the best thing plugged into it. When I eventually get a new tv someday and dont need the hdmi switch anymore i will get a 10 foot dvi to hdmi cord to go to the tv and plug my monitor in with the hdmi. Also I wish it had 2 dvi out instead of the old school blue! If you are spending the money on this card and a machine that will run this card I would like to think you wouldnt let a monitor like that get plugged into it!

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: ASUS GTX650-E-1GD5 GeForce GTX 650 1GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card

Pros: Very nice. Power efficient. Runs on my i3 2120 with a 300 watt power supply with no problems whatsoever. Borderlands 2 plays very smoothly maxed out settings 720p resolution.

Cons: Not a whole lot. I can't think of any legitimate concerns at the moment.

Other Thoughts: Use the latest nVidia drivers

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: ASUS GTX650-E-1GD5 GeForce GTX 650 1GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card

Pros: Card words just fine.

Cons: The rebate process description needs some improvement. I thought the quick rebate option would avoid mailing in the paper confirmation stuff. It didn't. This should have been clearly stated on the ASUS website. Second, I was supposed to get an Nvidia $75 value in-game coin coupon. I got it, 5 days after it had expired. The five star rating above is for the hardware. The marketing of this product gets one star (I'd go 5 stars negative if I could). All of the merchandise to be delivered wasn't, and the rebate site is poorly designed.

4 out of 5 eggsAlright

This review is from: ASUS GTX650-E-1GD5 GeForce GTX 650 1GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card

Pros: Runs cool, works like it is supposed to, really cheap!!!

Cons: its on the edge of the graphics cards that are needed to run the games that are out today. you cant really play comfortably on ultra or high settings, if you would like to play the newest games on the best quality you need something better like a 660 ti

Other Thoughts: it is a really good price for what you get though

5 out of 5 eggsgreat video card

This review is from: ASUS GTX650-E-1GD5 GeForce GTX 650 1GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card

Pros: fast,, newer video processor, quiet fan, low power usage, does not require an extra power plugin. Runs fine on my 250 watt power supply.

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: I highly recommend this for any older system. I upgraded from an nvidia 220 card. My windows 7 video score went from 4.2 to 7.3 so well worth the investment. I could not find any specs about the minimum power supply but the box says 400 watts is the minimum. I have a 250 watt stock HP power supply and so far runs fine playing DVDs. I primarily use my PC as and HTPC hooked up to my HDTV through HDMI and no issues. I also have the Ceton tv tuner card installed and still no power issues. It is a close fit between this card and the tv tuner card but it looks lower profile than similar cards. My biggest complaint for years has been the short life of the fans on all video cards so the claims that this one will last 25% longer remain to be seen

5 out of 5 eggsNice Card

This review is from: ASUS GTX650-E-1GD5 GeForce GTX 650 1GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card

Pros: I have been happy with the performance of the card. Good smooth graphics. For the price it’s a great card. I use this mostly for my HTPC and don’t have any issues.

Cons: The game coin coupon that came with it I don’t think I will ever use it wish it came with something cooler.

Other Thoughts: I have not had any major issues with the cards

5 out of 5 eggsGreat budget card

This review is from: ASUS GTX650-E-1GD5 GeForce GTX 650 1GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card

Pros: Cheap, powerful enough for most games, doesn't require additional power.

Cons: Could have 2 DVI outputs instead of 1 DVI and 1 vga.

Other Thoughts: Great card for the price. While it certainly isn't the most powerful card you can get, it does the job, and makes cable management really easy since it does not need to be powered by additional wires from the power supply. I hope Asus come up with more cards like that in the future !
