DirectCU II
The award-winning DirectCU II design continues to bring cooler and quieter operation to each generation of graphics cards. DirectCU II continues to combine the efficiency of direct contact copper heatpipes with the GPU, massive heatsink, and two fans to dissipate heat quickly. With different demands for power and temperature, ASUS exclusive DirectCU II now comes in a variety of flavors to bring at least 20% cooler performance while maintaining a standard in quiet operations.

DirectCU II with SSU Thermal Design
Comprising two "S" and one "U" shapes, the DirectCU II with SSU heatpipes are precisely shaped for optimal efficiency and heat transference. Now with their mid-section placed directly over the GPU, this design creates bi-directional flow and shortens heat transfer distance - doubling cooling capacity while maintaining the same size and footprint of existing graphics card cooling solution. This award-winning combination delivers 20% cooler and 2X quieter operations.

Dual Dust-Proof Fans
DirectCU II thermal assembly is further chilled by dual high-performance fans to generate direct airflow onto the large aluminum heatsink to efficiently dissipate heat. Each fan has been carefully tested and fine-tuned to minimize noise even under a full load. Each fan uses a dust-proof design to reduce dust and debris accumulation for increased reliability and improved performance.

High-conductivity copper used in heatpipe formulation creates tube-like vapor chambers, moving heat to a large aluminum heatsink that features extended fins for multiple points of dissipation. The assembly is further chilled by two high performance but carefully-tuned and sound-dampened fans for faster and quieter cooling.

Super Alloy Power
ASUS exclusive Super Alloy Power utilizes specially formulated alloy inside power delivery components to provide a more stable and quieter operation compared to reference design. The specially formulated alloy is highly-magnetic, heat-resistant and anti-corrosive. Super Alloy Power can increase lifespan 2.5 times while operating up to 35 degrees cooler. With Super Hybrid Engine to intelligently monitor and control power management, Super Alloy Power graphics cards are able to deliver up to a 15% performance boost.

Digi + VRM
The application of DIGI+VRM integrates a 10-phase digital power design with digital voltage regulators to minimize power noise level by 30% and enhance power efficiency by 15%. Digi + VRM is designed with wider voltage modulation tolerance to improve overall stability as well as increase overclocking potential.

1 out of 5 eggsBOO!!

Pros: It is a great GPU overall. It's fast, functions well and really love the NVIDIA on board programming on the desktop to customize it's performance.

Cons: Can we say Black Screen of Death much? So essentially it isn't like I got a great GPU and expected no issue or plugged it into a low grade mobo with a poor PSU. I have an ASUS Maximus Hero 7 mobo, and intel 4.0 quad, 16 gigs of ram, a 1100 watt PSU and yeah this *expletive deleted* could not play games without over heating.

I will give it this, it if I pumped the fan on the on board NIDIA up to 100% it worked okay.

Additionally, this GPU I originally bought for around 350...why it is 599 now no idea but told Asus about it and they were like *EXPLETIVE DELETED!!*

Other Thoughts: If you get this, which you shouldn't for this price, invest and make sure you got plenty of cooling going on. It's a great GPU in how it performs but it's a freaking lemon without some tweaks.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate

Pros: Update I built an I7 system last October and I am running two GTX770 cards in SLI mode and they are the best I have ever run. There has not been a game out there yet that has given me any problems Far cry 4 at the highest setting just rocks. I have seen some of the post about the screens going blank and all that and had the same problem when I was running windows 7, However I changed over to Window 8.1 pro and have not had any problems since. On far cry with the cards overclocked I am running 95 fps which I am running G.Skill 2400 memory with a Asus Maximus vii hero with 2 ssd 250 gb hard drives and water cooled haswell 4.0 and a CORSAIR HX Series HX850 all in a Thermaltake Core V71. So I would buy these cards again anytime as long as I had the right setup to run them.

Cons: None

1 out of 5 eggsCoil Whine and awful CS

Pros: Fast card
Very quiet
Good looking
Protective backplate

Cons: Runs hotter then I'd prefer without applying custom fan curves
Coil Whine...

--Just recently did some further upgrading on my PC and up'd the PSU that I got. I went from a 500W that it had no coil whine with to a 750W. Doing the same things and playing the same games it has become awful. Returned the PSU 3 times and always present. Reinstalled 500W PSU and it is present.

Other Thoughts: Huge disappointment. And trying to get ahold of ASUS is just stupid. Their chat doesn't work, creating a case doesn't work.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Bobilito,

I am sorry you are not having a wondeful experience with your graphics card and are experiencing noise. ASUS uses a Super Alloy Choke design to alleviate and even eliminate coil whine altogether. However, a change of a PSU can have an affect on the GPU as it is responsible for supplying power. Have you tried locking the frames at 60FPS using Nvidia Inspector or adjusted the OC and voltage to the card as some have reported positive results in doing so? If you would like to discuss this case further, please contact me through email and include your reference number within the subject line. In addition, please provide me with what troubleshooting steps you had tried, as well as the rest of the systems hardware configuration. Thank you. Cs#N150246907

2 out of 5 eggsIt works great, when it doesn't crash

Pros: Runs most of my games on high or ultra depending on how new they are while also doing streaming. And can do other video related tasks very easily.

Cons: Causes my computer to completely crash (clearly a video failure) about 5 to 12 times weekly have re installed, and troubleshooted multiple times with major issues still happening.

Other Thoughts: Bought in the summer of 2013... Although it's great for running games on a casual and semi-hardcore type basis as I do, the problems with the card causing a system wide crash that requires a reboot can be poorly timed when playing games or even just talking to friends on Skype. I most likely will not buy an ASUS branded GPU again.

2 out of 5 eggsNot What I expected

Pros: When it ran properly, the graphics card ran pretty well for the first couple of days but started to go downhill after about 4 days.

Cons: motion blur, lag on undemanding games, horizontal blur lines, monitor blinking on and off

Other Thoughts: Personally I dislike this GPU for the cons above and was really hoping for better preformance

1 out of 5 eggsStay Away

Pros: Worked fine until I loaded the video drivers.

Cons: Bought this with high hopes for a Xmas build for my nephew. Had nothing but problems as soon as I loaded the display drivers. Initially wouldn't even boot into Windows 7. After going back and forth between safe mode, uninstalling the 3d glasses drivers it finally booted successfully. Unfortunately, once the computer went into sleep mode, problems resurfaced and started getting BSOD's and was back to not being able to boot into windows.

Did some research and found others having the exact same problems as I. In fact, seems it's a known issue with these cards. One fix is to flash the video bios with the latest from ASUS' website. Tried this but the card already had the latest vbios so once again out of luck.

Unfortunately Newegg has it listed as a replacement only purchase (which I completely missed) so I'm RMA'ing it but will only be getting a the same card replacement.

Other Thoughts: Hopefully the replacement card will work but at this point I'm wary and will probably never buy an ASUS card ever again.

5 out of 5 eggsWorth it if you can snag it in for under 250$

Pros: I was able to get this card for ~260$ after discount and mail-in rebate so it turned out like a good deal.

Runs battlefield 4 on ultra 1080p very smooth, however it can sometimes drop to 44 fps for a few seconds during intense battles. Nothing that will throw your game off though! (normally inside hallways where 10-20 people are tossing grenades back and forth.) Other than that i average 60-90fps!

Cons: One of the two fans were making a light clicking sound when i first installed it. After tightening some screws and spinning it with my finger the sound disappeared. Should be okay, but deff a little scary when your card is brand new out of the box!

Other Thoughts: This card is a great deal and can run any game practically on ultra 60 fps 1080p if you can snag it for 250$ or less.

3 out of 5 eggsGood card for a small pool of games

Pros: It ran really well in things like battlefield 3(~65 fps)/4(~55 fps), WoW(anywhere from 30fps in a 40 man to 100fps in a town), and Smite(around 80), but had problems in other games.

Cons: Other games like shadow warrior, far cry 3 and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare all run for around an hour then cause a crash. The computer stays on but each of my screens switch to a seemingly random color.

Other Thoughts: Swapping to my other card, a power color 7770, I don't have problems with crashes so i'm pretty sure its this GPU but, as it is a weaker card they don't run as well.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear BruteSmile,

I am sorry that you are having issues with your graphics card sir. What temps do you read when this issue occurs? If you have not contacted NewEgg for an RMA exchange already and would like to RMA with ASUS, please refer to the link below to create an RMA. 5 out of 5 eggsVery nice, but it gets hot

Pros: Very reliable card in my rig I've had no problem with it except for the fact that it gets hot. But I believe that this may be the fault of my rig overall. I run a 1000 watt power supply, 8 core processor, and I have 32 gigs of ram so I use quite a bit of juice [I recently had to buy a processor liquid cooling unit to keep games and other high demand programs from lagging] but I don't have one for my card. So when I took it apart from some routine maintenance [You know, cleaning dust and making sure all the cords aren't getting into fans (Which I remedied with zip ties from Dollar Tree) and making sure the HDD aren't getting too dusty or hot] and I felt the card and almost burned my hand on the metal pipe work but it's still working like the day I bought it. I honestly cannot think of anything really negative to say about this product. I do feel sorry for those who have had a bad experience with their card but to blame the card itself on a small fraction of faulty cards doesn't do this product justice. As far as graphics go it runs most games flawlessly. I haven't seen much in the way of artifacts on my screen and I definitely haven't had any crashes because of my card. The problem most of the people may have could be a faulty MOBO or viruses if they pirated their games but the card itself is sturdy and has preformed beyond my expectations.

Cons: Like I said in the Pros section heat is my only issue. Although it's not an issue yet the card is a bit big for my case and I recently noticed that one of my HDD's has been pushing against the card bending it some. I've rectified this with some zip ties [Thanks Dollar Tree!] but if I haven't seen it during a routine cleaning I would have never noticed since I haven't had any issues with the card.

Other Thoughts: If they could make a specific liquid cooling system for this card I would STRONGLY consider throwing more of my money at them!
