4 out of 5 eggsGreat for the price

Pros: -Idles at 18-24 celsius, Games at 48-55 celcius
-Games have been running with high to ultra settings at 1080p with smooth frame rate
-Quiet
-Able to overclock

Cons: -I've been noticing artifacts showing up every now and then when playing a game. Mixture of screen flickers and texture stretching. Annoying, but they go away after while.

2 out of 5 eggsDoes Have Issues

Pros: It was the right card at the right price. Unfortunately the experience is mostly cons.

Cons: As many others have reported. I am having issues with random freezes. It does not BSOD. The screen just locks up on whatever is currently on the screen, and the computer has to be rebooted. During gameplay, it goes to a black screen and then locks up. It's random, but it has never gone more than an hour or so without locking up. When I bought this card, it was with a motherboard, processor, RAM and power supply, and at the time I didn't have other hardware to swap out in order to isolate the video card as the issue. Also, I purchased the card as it had pretty much just hit the market a month prior, so I didn't have other customer feedback to go on. Thankfully there is a lot more feedback now.

I ran the full gamut of troubleshooting, tried every compatible drive on AMD's site, and ASUS' site. There's also a BIOS update for the card that I knew the card did not have. However, when I ran the update utility, the utility said that I do not need the update, and refused to install it. Which is a shame, because I know with 100% certainty that the card does not have that BIOS update, and the update claims to fix the very issue I'm having.

I swapped out every hardware component individually, and in groups, reinstalled Windows 7 more than once. I took the video card and installed it into 3 different PCs, and the problem followed the video card. As soon as you remove the video card from the scenario, the problem is gone.

Other Thoughts: I just started the RMA process with this card. Filling out the RMA form on the ASUS site was relatively pain-free. I'll be shipping the card out to them at the beginning of the week. I'll see how this process goes and update/write a new review if there's anything worth mentioning good or bad about the RMA or the replacement card.

One other thought. While going through the ASUS support site, I noticed that this model of card has a Hardware Revision 1 card (my card) and now a Hardware Revision 2 card. It's very possible that ASUS resolved this issue with a new hardware revision and that if you were to buy this card new, you may have a great experience. The problem, I don't have a revision 2 card, so I can't tell you that's the case. For the time being, I would avoid this card. There's a large number of customers all reporting the exact same issue. It's not likely that all of those people are using the card wrong. Not when the issue is identical across the board.

In my situation, I never overclocked this card. I've never even installed a GPU Overclocking utility. This card was kept in a cool environment with great cooling and airflow. In my case, I just got a bad card. It's unfortunate. Again, I would highly recommend against buying this card. I would still buy an ASUS video card without hesitation, just not this one.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I do apologize that you experienced issues with your GPU. If you would like to discuss this case further, please contact me through email and include your reference number within the subject line as well as your current RMA number. In addition, please provide me with what troubleshooting steps you had tried, as well as the rest of the systems hardware configuration. Thank you. Cs#N141018598

3 out of 5 eggsFOUND FIX FOR BLACK SCREEN ISSUE

Pros: The design and build of this is great, but driver issues plus the slightly too much OC is too much. apparently sapphire has fixed their 260x, never thought asus would be behind them on this. idles at 40C, sometimes lower

Cons: Switched to newest 14.7RC and it ran better than ever, until the black screen issue came about. when the card would fail to even show post, i was ready to RMA.
But once I found everyone here saying this is typical, I realized this is driver issue.

FIX: Uninstall current driver, then put version 13.12
this is the last driver that worked pretty stable. i tried 14.4 and that has problems, tried another one which was horrible and then finally i have used the card quite alot under 13.12 and the only issues is the occasional artifacts, which usually takes at least a day to show up and in my case is minor and usually short-lived.

Other Thoughts: if this driver fix works for others, great and its sad ASUS couldn't figure this out and save on RMA's (remember they have to pay for someone to deal with it and postage to send it back to you)

if this fix only applies to my specific card, then OC = too high and the variation between cards means some will fail, some wont. try raising power limit a couple notches and see if that helps, usually works well on this 260x

2 out of 5 eggsExpected so much more, was let down.

Pros: At least you can play most games on low-medium.

Cons: I've had numerous problems as many others have stated, started off with the stock driver, already had many problems, computer will post but when i do a reboot it won't post, so I have to click shutoff within windows 8 then normal boot for it to post. I decided to get the latest stable driver from the AMD website and things were still rough, decided the latest BETA drivers and as long as I have lowest clock settings things can run okay. If I use the stable AMD driver photoshop doesn't comply, the beta one helped out but I wish that ASUS would actually come out with their own update, I think the last one was a few months ago, and probably the only update. I've seen a forum where people would update their BIOS and still have artifacts, BSODs and other bugs/tearing/errors.

I thought it was my end and my PSU but I have tested my onboard video along with another old GPU and have had no problem restarting.

Will never get another AMD/Asus product after this. I'm a little satisfied AMD's beta driver will allow me to at least function with this card to a LIMIT.

Save yourselves from this horrid experience and do not purchase this card, do your research before purchasing a GPU, that's where I went wrong.

Horrible experience at Tiger Direct to go along with it, bad customer support with other products and deciding to stick to this GPU just to not have to go back there. Will purchase a new GPU as soon as I have the money and probably rid existence of this one.

Other Thoughts: I don't understand how they can release so many versions of this card without a stable one. I don't know too much about the issue but ASUS please test your products, I've had 'okay' experience with your MOBOs (bought a soundboard defected board) but this... unbelievable.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This is a great starter card for anyone with a older motherboard. its fast and the response is great. I do recomend this product as an upgrade for an older rig,

Cons: This card does not work with my new uefi motherboard. It worked on my 4 year old dfi lan party. which sucks because i had bought it for a new rig but i purchased it a month before had and it had worked flawlessly. now on this board when windows starts up it decides it just wants to go to a flickery black screen. I wish i hadnt purchased this card for my particular build and had went with a gtx 750i.

Other Thoughts: seeing as its already been too long for me to rma for a refund im stuck with this card sitting on a shelf until one day they actually fix its issues. OVERALL: Great Card.

2 out of 5 eggsSometimes works

Pros: Its an awesome card. Very powerful but it has problems.

Cons: Overheats with fans at %100. Crashes regularly. Video freezes that require restart to fix system.

Other Thoughts: First bad asus product I have owned. Card is a refurb but others have had similar problems with the card being brand new. Also sucks that my new build is unstable because of this card.

2 out of 5 eggscard freezes

Pros: Runs fast for cost when playing games.

Cons: Frequently freezes when doing non-gpu taxing activities like surfing or word processing.

Other Thoughts: Got this card in exchange for a black screening HD 7790. I talked to ASUS about exchanging this for a different model with me paying the difference, but they weren't up for that. Freeze during surfing is no big deal, but a freeze when I'm working could be a big problem, so I guess I'll move on.

I can run on integrated graphics or an older ATI card with no issues.

Maybe someday they'll get it fixed and I can put it in an old machine.

1 out of 5 eggsnever worked

Pros: Makes a great paper weight
A prime example of what not to get when looking for a GPU

Cons: never have gotten the card to work. The drivers don't work. I have tried the card on two different machines with no success. Every driver set plus beta have been tried with no success. I completely wiped all trace of software associated with the gpu with each driver install and I have done this on 2 different machines.

Other Thoughts: I was told by a rep that because the card is a little under two months old I cannot return or replace but I can send it off to a third party repair center where it will cost $100 to repair. I feel like I have spent $130 on a paper weight

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

If the card was DOA then why didn't process an exchange through Newegg. If you need help creating an RMA for repair since its been 2 months, I would love to help. 1 out of 5 eggsCan't run 2 monitors stock

Pros: Only one power hook up.

Cons: Second video is DVI-D. Can't run dual monitors without buying some expensive cable or adapter that nobody stocks!

Other Thoughts: Newegg is great but don't buy this for a dual monitor setup unless you have the cables or adapters. Only came with one VGA adapter. Cheap. Real Cheap.

1 out of 5 eggsBeware BAD card and poor support

Pros: Quiet, would be very nice IF it worked

Cons: Never worked perfectly (pixelation, brief screen blanks, etc.) but the rumors that new drivers would solve the problem kept me with it for three months. Functionality has gotten progressively worse so that now it runs an almost 50% duty cycle with the screen being on and off half the time - about once per second or two. System is fine with direct motherboard video and is also fine with a different display card plugged into the slot.

ASUS support is easy to reach on the phone but impossible to get to own up to the really SERIOUS problems they are having with this card. I guess some cards work and others don't (the reviews tend to be either "great" or "awful") if you get a bad one, you will be sorry. ASUS is demanding that I find a way to plug the card into a different motherboard before they will issue an RMA. I don't have the parts needed to do this and the motherboard (a new ASUS part) is obviously not the problem.

Since I waited three months, I'm not sure that Newegg (where I purchased this card) will be able to help.

Other Thoughts: I used to think very highly of ASUS - my current system is all ASUS parts - not sure how badly this incident will tarnish my impression of them.
