1 out of 5 eggsLast AMD/ATI/ASUS GPU I'll ever own...

Pros: - Fairly good for mining
- Fairly good synthetic benchmark performer (e.g. 3DMark)
- Fairly good gaming performance...

Cons: - ...for the first 3-4 minutes under load.
- Terrible artifacts, no matter the driver version.
- Terrible drivers
- Terrible bundled software
- Some whine on the fans (tends to come and go)

Other Thoughts: I paid full price and got nothing bundled with the 2 that I got. They were in super high demand and I got them for $379/ea (got 2). I was thinking of mining since January but could never get a hold of these. Once I finally got them, mining was no longer profitable but I thought to myself: "What the heck, mining was a good mental excuse to spend the money. I'll at least have a kick-booty gaming rig". Nope. Terrible. TERRIBLE. Some games I get artifacts immediately. Some, it takes a few minutes. Others, it only happens in certain screens, animations or sections of the map. I've tried original drivers, updated drivers (both from ASUS), I've tried release drivers from AMD, beta drivers from AMD. ALL. THE. SAME. On top of that, I get plenty of crashes and weird behavior on some games and applications. To top it all off, the bundled junk (e.g. Raptr) that is now included in the AMD drivers is pure sin: it crashes (games) more often than a drunk NASCAR driver would.

Bottom line: steer clear. I see these being sold barely used for $200, which means I can't, in good conscience, sell them. I'm gonna try RMA'ing one of them, but I expect to get someone else's RMA and having to pay for shipping (which just adds to the operative cost of each card).

Last AMD/ATI/ASUS card. I've been buying ASUS products for over 15 years. I've always considered them high quality. I've been nothing short of disappointed, with hints of rage. AMD/ATI lost it completely too: they can't write software to keep up with their hardware to save their lives (quite literally, actually). And don't get me started on Linux support...

Anyway: NEVER buy these.

In other news, I have a great deal to offer you, if you're interested. I have been entrusted with these barely used R9 280X from ASUS, as you know, a high value item.I'm willing to part with them for a very low fee, if you're interested. I think these came from a prince in Nigeria, so you can be assured they are of utmost trustworthiness. All you have to do is email me your SSN and contact information, along with a check for a mere $500 and, in exchange, I'll entrust you these great specimens of technological achievement, for you to with them as you wish.

No, seriously, go search for an Nvidia card now. Prefereably from EVGA (my old GTX 660 is still rocking)

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Worked great in a mining rig.

Cons: I had one bad one our of the 4 that I bought but was really easy to replace.

Other Thoughts: after pushing these guys to the limit in bitcoin mining they are still working great. Going to create a gaming rig with them when I get a chance.

1 out of 5 eggsAwful Card

Pros: When it works, it's pretty amazing and it's a good price, but so many issues. Read further.

Cons: Artifacts in games...PC freezing...card runs hot when it has a load. 30c idle, but up to 57c in game. Fans are full speed, cpu water cooled, 6 x 120mm case fans. I tried an open box card and figured that the previous owner just overheated the sucker and RMA'd / bought a new one. The new one has the same issues. Many many many complaints about this card. BE WARNED

Other Thoughts: I tried several different driver versions, updating the BIOS, messing with the fans/voltage/gpu clock/mem clock, and nothing seems to help. I seemed to have better stability when lowering the clock speeds and voltage, but still issues with artifacts. Slow performance in SC2, artifacts/crashing in Tera Rising.

3 out of 5 eggsMixed Feelings

Pros: The card runs anything you throw at it flawlessly, can't complain about the quality in that department. Always have had ATI/AMD graphics cards and I'll swear by them till the cows come home.

Cons: Here is where my mixed feelings are. This card runs hot. Not so much hot as in damage the card hot, hot as in bringing your ambient room temp up by 5 degrees hot. In the midwest, our summers are hot enough already, throw a R9-280X in a bedroom computer, and you need your own A/C unit.

Next is the size of the card. Yes, you need all that heat dissipation, but it looks like we are going backwards with the size of these babies. I have to remove my hard drive rack and custom fab the two slots I needed for the hard drives or this baby wasn't going to fit in anywhere. It is huge, like internet love movie huge. Measure your case to see if you have clearance, or you will be doing some metal work or buying a new case.

If you are into ATX Full Tower cases, you will love these cards, but if you are into small and meaty, space is going to be a problem

2 out of 5 eggsGreat card, but too many issues

Pros: This card definitely has amazing performance and beautfiul graphics. It is fast, but that is where it ends.

Cons: I bought two of these cards for a new build so I could crossfire them. I never though I would have so many problems with graphics cards. After I RMA'd one for manufacturing issues, I finally get my second card after 8 days. I can get one installed and it runs great, but as soon as I add the second card, all of the problems start. First, it installs drivers for the second card. Standard. Restart. Also standard. Then, the machine will not load into Windows. I can get into safe mode just fine. OK. Remove all drivers, start over. Same issue. Reload Windows. Starting with both cards in, install drivers. The card still has the same issue. It shows the loading Windows screen, then nothing. The whole machine just locks up. If I run the cards without drivers, they work just fine. I am a huge fan of Asus products, and was extremely disappointed by the outcome of these cards.

Other Thoughts: If you are only getting one graphics card, you should be OK. If you are looking to crossfire, I would highly recommend steering clear of these cards. Now I don't know if I am just going to RMA them, or resell to buy two separate cards. As I have already spent money to RMA one the first time, I am a little hesitant.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat Card, Bad Manufacturing

Pros: This card has a ton of processing power and supports newer display interfaces (HDMI, DisplayPort.) Under full load, playing graphic intensive games, the card doesn't lag or hesitate even at high resolution. With 3GB of memory you should be able to run all curent games, and more than likely some near future games with no issues.

The fans that cool this card are very efficient and when operated at 100% cooling capacity they are audible, but not a nuisance whatsoever.

Cons: artifacts. Artifacts. ARTIFACTS! ASUS overclocked this card from the factory. The VRAM on this board is designed to operate at 1.5v and ASUS has it hard clocked (unadjustable) at 1.6v. Doing so creates additional heat on the memory which is not completely covered by a heatsink. You can use the GPUTweak software that comes with the card to adjust the card's parameters to delay when the artifacts will appear, but uptimately you will still see them eventually, if you do not add extra cooling to the curcuit board level components.

Other Thoughts: Utlimately this is the same card as the 7970, just overclocked and not as stable. If you are considering this card, be aware of the artifacting. Some people reported no issues at all, but most people have the same issue that I have experienced. This card is NOT available for a refund by Newegg.com so even a replacement may not fix your problems if you experience any.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Kuhl,

I'm sorry to hear about your artifacting. If you are still having any artifacting issues with your card I would love for you to make contact with me to help you resolve those issues. Please be sure to place case number # N140731988 in the subject line for me to reference your case properly.

Sincerely,

Adam J.

1 out of 5 eggsFlickering and artifacting

Pros: Worked nice for about 8 months...

Cons: ...then the flickering and crashing started. Same issue as everyone else seems to have (just Youtube it, you'll find plenty of instances of this card's problems). Pretty crummy card, I'd avoid.

Other Thoughts: Here's hoping the RMA isn't as bad as everyone else seems to imply...

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible Driver Don't buy

Pros: Looks Nice. ASUS label looks good .. gives you a chance to put a couple different colored stickers on the card

Cons: Will not support Blu Ray DVD playback with most recent driver. Piece of terrible don't buy.

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsVery nice card

Pros: Runs very nice for the price,
The card comes in a black bag for a reason. You need to use ESD Standard when handling this board. This is the biggest reason for board failures in the field.

Cons: would be nicer with more memory, say 6Gb or even 8Gb

Other Thoughts: Make sure your grounded when touching this board, And it should run just fine for some time.
