1 out of 5 eggsGreat Product Horrible Customer service - They dont want to help

Pros: Silent, Works fine with League of Legends. Should work great with any high end game out there if CPU can handle it.

Cons: Doesnt work at all. Yes I realize I got a bad card. Their customer service is nice but gets you absolutely no where.

Other Thoughts: With that said I realize I got a bad card. The Customer service however is absolutely atrocious. I am a computer science major and a college student, I CANT jump through 100 hoops to get an RMA or advanced RMA. I sent in the forms for the Advanced RMA and they say the credit card isnt one they accept. Ok, I can deal with that but I resubmit the form and it just disappears. No we got your email and are processing your RMA like the first time and I try to look up my RMA status and it is completely disappeared. No record of it shown. I have been trying to get this RMA for about 3 weeks or so now and I am trying to juggle college and a job as well. This should not be that hard. They gave me a faulty product. It should not be my job to do the entire process a hundred times for them to try to help me. I should not have to pay shipping for a product that was defective. Its like if I sold you something that didnt work and cost 20$ to ship. Then I said pay 20$ to ship it back and Ill give you a new one. No, I payed my money once its not my fault that its defective. They should try to help the customer not make me work 10x as hard to get a working product.

1 out of 5 eggsCard died in under a year

Pros: When the card is working, it ran great, was able to maintain 60FPS at ultra at 1080p on BF4, and all other games I tried.

Cons: Card occasionally artifacts.

It also occasionally makes the entire screen go grey and crash my entire system.

These problems come and go at completely random times. PSU is more than adequate, temperatures are low enough. Don't understand why this card is such garbage, poor quality control I suppose.

ASUS warranty support is difficult to deal with at best, we'll see if I can ever get the RMA process sorted out, but this is the last ASUS product I ever buy.

1 out of 5 eggsDo Not Buy

Pros: none

Cons: The artifacting on this card is horrid not only in games but it has now started to full screen jagged color spikes on top of crashing drivers which happens at least once a day occasionally requiring a boot order fix. The card is also huge and heavy, heavy enough to break MB PCI slots.

Other Thoughts: Asus use to be good, now all there products are bad very bad, buy any other company.

3 out of 5 eggsMixed bag...

Pros: Very fast out of the box. Overclocks nicely as well. I got mine stable at better than stock nvidia 980 specs... for much less. the PRICE. Very powerful for the price compared to nVidia cards.

Cons: 1. The fans. They are very efficient and nice... BUT the fluid bearings LEAK. The heat is OK for the gpu with automatic fan settings. dont speed them up or you'll lose fluid and they will start scratching. I wish i would have gone with the Windforce. :/ ***2. The SOFTWARE!! (AMD Gaming Evolved, Raptr, etc.) If you record your games, stream, etc then go with nVidia. Right now, though yes it is new, it is absolute junk. very buggy. Crashing games, crashing OSES, lagging games by saving video files in one big save (several seconds) instead of continuously, and more. It also seems to crash at the end of match games, and generally corrupts the last file (up to the last 20 minutes or so of recorded gameplay) saved. Super stoked because you just recorded that epic win? Nope, no you didn't!

Other Thoughts: 1. Artifacting. a LOT. However, after talking with tech support, they recommend I updated the card BIOS (yes, the gpu itself has its own bios apparently). I updated the BIOS from the file on their website and the artifacting and crashes went away. Gaming performance and overclocking stayed the exact thing, so it was a software bug. Since there is a fix for it, I didn't put it in the Cons section. ***2. You cannot buy the special replacement fans, and i just live with the scratching sounds now. :/ ***3. there is no nVidia physx build in, of course, so games that rely on that wont be as fast on this card as nVidia many nVidia ones.

1 out of 5 eggsFirst Time ASUS Has Done Me Wrong

Pros: Fast and Powerful

Cons: Artifacting very horribly
Sometimes causes hangs/freezing/crashes
No amount of "fixes" can prevent the artifacting (reduce maybe)
RMA process by ASUS is HORRIBLE.

Other Thoughts: I did a whole lot of research on this, and it appears to be a problem with the memory units. Firstly, the memory chips are not attached to the heatsink which negatively impacts heat dissipation. Secondly, the memory chips are designed to run at 1.5 V, however they are hardware locked to run at 1.6 V (meaning no amount of Vbios updates/adjustments can affect the memory voltage). This results in memory malfunction which causes the artifacting.

Unless I can get this fixed properly and promptly, I am not buying or recommending ASUS products to my peers.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid this one...

Pros: When it works, it's a great card. Will max out most all games at 1440p. Temps stay below 72C and it's very quiet. Great looking card, will make a nice paperweight.

Cons: Artifacts. Artifacts in BF4, MOH, 3DMark, just about everything. Tried updating VBIOS, a half-dozen different driver versions on fresh Windows installs on three different systems. Good thing it's got a warranty right? Haha, nope, ASUS RMA is a joke. I sent in my 280X for RMA, about a month later I received the EXACT same card back (recorded serial number before sending in), and needless to say it still has the same problem. They provided ZERO explanation as to the testing procedure or whether or not they were able to replicate the problem. Thanks Asus.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this roughly a year ago, while it exhibited issues within the first two weeks the artifacting can be made less frequent by increase the voltage or by putting it in G-mode in Asus GPU Tweak. Recently I upgraded to GTX 970 SLI and haven't had a single issue since. These 280Xs clearly exhibit a pattern failure based on the number of reviews mentioning the artifacting problem. I understand that sometimes products have problems, but it's how the manufacturers respond to these problems which really matters, and Asus clearly doesn't care. I will be avoiding Asus in the future, not because of the card but because of their post-sales support.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Nate,

I am sorry that you are having issues with your graphics card sir. I would be happy to assist you if you need another RMA. If you would like to discuss this case further, please contact me through email and include your reference number within the subject line. In addition, please provide me with what troubleshooting steps you had tried, as well as the rest of the systems hardware configuration. Thank you. Cs#N141298061

2 out of 5 eggsGood while it lasted

Pros: FAST! OpenCL support. Fan is reasonably quiet and only throttles up when needed.

Cons: Overclocked from the factory, does not last. Power hungry. Big.

Other Thoughts: I have had this card about a year. Now it black screens once in a while during movie playback. I put in a RMA with ASUS after trying a new BIOS update, updated ATI drivers, and upping the core voltage with GPU tweak. No luck. I figure the hardware is dying slowly.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This card is very nice. I am thinking of purchasing another one. Have not had a problem with it yet.

Cons: It is a little too long.

Other Thoughts: Product is good. Makes some games look very good. Other games would work better with two.

5 out of 5 eggsAusome

Pros: This card works to the spec like a clock.

Cons: I read all the fails of this card. All of the fails talk about hi temps. It is lack of air flow in the owners case. this is a high end card. If you do not own a full ATX case, don't buy one. It will run hot if you do not have the air flow to run it. If this card runs over 65c you have a cooling problem with you case and it needs to be fixed or you will just keep wasting your time trying to get something to work.

Other Thoughts: Mid tower cases just don't work for high end card unless you watercool

3 out of 5 eggsIt will do the job.

Pros: It is a good card for the money. With a few drawbacks.

Cons: They didn't bother to put any kind of heatsink on ANY of the vram chips. The lack of clearance to the GPU will disallow installing anything to help with this. Wouldn't recommend getting wild with overclocking and depending on the environment and case ventilation it may need to be dialed back some depending on heat buildup.

Also it is a very large card and clearance issues may arise depending on location of your HDD mount.

Other Thoughts: A case with good ventilation is a MUST.
