1 out of 5 eggsTerrible card

Pros: Powerful and it keeps cool. Using it for 1080p gaming.

Cons: Artifacts- and I've tried everything.

- clean install of Windows 7
- different PSU
- different versions of Catalyst ranging from 13.12 to the newest 14.9 (always cleaned em up using DDU)
- underclocking the card by 10-25%
- CPU @ default speeds
- different PCI-E slot
- different power cables
- default BIOS settings
- memtest86, no errors
- disabling ULPS
- using only one screen

Nothing helps.

Other Thoughts: Last time I buy an Asus product, I want to RMA it but I don't want to invest anymore money into this terrible terrible product.

2 out of 5 eggsSadness :(

Pros: - Nice looking
- Good card when it works properly

Cons: I bought this card when it first came out in 2013, and after a few months of use I would get a lot of artifacts while playing BF4 or any other game. I specifically bought this card because of their Mantle API that was supposed to provide a better experience while playing BF4, but I should not have bought into the hype. I also bought into the hype that Asus is a really good manufacturer, but 2 out of 3 Asus products have failed on me unfortunately. I will be looking at other manufacturers for my future builds.

Other Thoughts: Maybe Asus really is an awesome manufacturer, and I just have bad luck with their stuff.

2 out of 5 eggsASUS Radeon R9 280X DirectX 11.2 R9280X-DC2T

Pros: It's a great card when it works properly. Can handle most games at highest settings,.. and that's just with a single video card.

Cons: Artifacts !! ,.. So many artifacts,.. I've tried everything,. Downgrading to earlier bios,. under-clocking the GPU,.. nothing works. even with latest drivers, I still get artifacts in many games and even on the desktop. This is one of the most disappointing buys I've ever made. I'll never buy an ASUS video card again. I can't believe just how bad this was made,.. Between the fans squeaking, and the artifacting,. this is one of the worst buys I've made for my PC.

Other Thoughts: Buy a sapphire made product. It cost more but you get what you pay for.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Juan,

Thank you for taking your time in writing this review. We will take your review in consideration, and certainly value your feedback. It is unfortunate that your video card is artifacting. Does it artifact during cerrtain tasks? Whar are your temperatures on the card under load? It can be an overheating issue. Sorry for the inconvenience. If you believe your card is defective, you can submit an RMA at http://www.asus.com/us/support. ASUS offers 3 year warranty on our video cards. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me at cl-justin@asus.com and I will help you to the best of my abilities. 2 out of 5 eggsDied a year after purchase

Pros: Held up really well for everything I threw at it, keeping most gaming scenarios at high/ultra high settings (Leage, SWTOR, Skyrim with the HD mod, etc). Ran relatively cool.

Cons: No backplate on the card which ALWAYS made installing/reseating stressful as it felt like you were destroying it. After ~ a year and a few months, started having issues with the display just turning off. Threw my old HD 5750 in and it worked great. Now, can't even get this card to boot up.

Other Thoughts: The card worked well while it did. At this point, if you're looking at any variation of the 200 series though, jump up to the 380/390/390x. It'll be worth it as long as your PSU holds up. Avoid ASUS' support section. Lord forbid you ACTUALLY need to RMA something.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat card, runs triple monitor max settings on all games

Pros: Very fast, very quiet

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Great card, whisper quiet. I've had it over a year and never had a problem. Played the new wolfenstein game at 5720x1080 at max settings and framerates are well above 30 fps. I've never had a problem with artifacts, not sure what these other reviews are talking about, they probably overclocked their video card too far and damaged it.

3 out of 5 eggsDidn't Last

Pros: Ran BF4, Witcher 3, ARMA 3 well. Fan sound was good when it was first installed.

Cons: Well, after a year 1 fan became VERY noisy. Thought it was my new CPU water cooler but finally found the bad GPU fan. Fan was loose on motor so it was unstable and hit the shroud. Ran it for 8 more months. Had constant Video SW failures that I usually didn't know happened, just a screen freeze. On 6 Nov 15 video completely failed in BF4, big black screen and frozen PC. Today still had crashes. Buying new GPU now.

Other Thoughts: Failed to take advantage of Warranty until too late. Oh well, upgrading.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Edward,

1 out of 5 eggsAnother unsatisfied Asus Customer

Pros: Awesome 1080p performance. Whisper quiet.

Cons: Same issue as everyone else. Huge Artifacting and Overheating problems. If the game needs more than 2 GB of VRAM is glitch city.

This is a horrible product and I will tell EVERY SINGLE PERSON in all of south florida that comes to the shop to never buy an ASus GPU.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Everton,

Thank you for your time on posting this review, we are sorry to hear your experience with the ASUS graphics card. I understand that you are not satisfied with the graphics card. Please allow me to assist you.

Can we have a detailed information about the unit's issue? can we also have the unit' serial number for me to check it's warranty and in case I need to process an RMA.

Please try the steps below to try to troubleshoot the units problem.

* Check whether your GPU Fans are working/at full load or not
* Check any other devices on the mobo blocking the airways of the GPU (It might be poor cooling system) or use other PCIe slot for the GPU
* If fan is not spinning or dusty, take the card out of the system and clean it by giving it a good air blow out or applying enough thermal paste.
* Check the compatibility of the GPU to the mobo
* Check the video cable compatibility or use different cable or use other PCIe slot for the GPU
* Uninstall the GPU driver and install the latest ones. Be sure to select the "Clean Install" option. Get the latest driver version, or even latest Beta version available from Asus site or from the chipset site

1 out of 5 eggsDo NOT Buy!

Pros: The Pros are that when the card works, it works. Decent performance.

Cons: Huge issues with overheating, fails with all AMD drivers I have tested it on. It black screens and freezes, causing me to force restart. I sent to customer service and since they do not carry anymore 280x's they are charging me for a 390x. Awful service.

1 out of 5 eggsBad card, artifacts, no service

Pros: In general, the R9 280X is a powerful card at a good price.

Cons: Drivers are terrible. They release drives that won't install or aren't recognized.
The ASUS R9280X-DC2T-3GD was a terrible build for a card that has a lot of known artifact issues.
ASUS support/service is non-existing. It's been almost 2 weeks after submitting a support ticket on their website without a resonse.

Other Thoughts: I've had this card for about two years. I used a single monitor system for the first year+ and all was fine. When I bought dual-monitors is when I ran into artifact-ing and spiking. I get artifact squares on my desktop, in games and just browsing the web. I've updated the card bios (that claims to clear up some issues) but had little benefit.

I contacted customer support via the ASUS website (which took a few weeks as their site had broken links and a broken customer support contact form.) about 10 days ago about getting an RMA to fix my card and I've not heard back.

I tried doing the usual deep searching to find solutions. I've recently swapped my MoBo, CPU and RAM and did a clean install of Win7 with drivers (and couldn't use the latest drivers off ASUS website because they fail to be recognized after installed) and was hoping a clean install might clean up any possible driver conflicts. No luck. The board itself is probably bad (given the many similar stories of this particular card being bad).

Now I'm testing ASUS customer support and it's not looking good. The experience to submit the form was terrible. It's been nearly 2 weeks and I've had little more than an automated email response.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid Asus

Pros: Card worked great while it worked.
Ran most games 1080p at ultra settings at a reasonable sound level.

Cons: Really saddens me to say that this card will keep me from ever buying Asus products in the future. Card worked for about 18 months before artifacting like crazy and crashing my system. RMA'd said card and it took about two weeks for me to get a replacement. After getting my card back the issue seemed to be resolved, for about a week. Graphics card now artifacts just as bad so now i guess i'm left with a $300 paper weight. Looks like I can no longer recommend Asus anymore.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Nickolas,

Thank you for your time on posting this review, we are sorry to hear your experience with the ASUS graphics card. Please allow me to assist you.

First can we have your previous RMA or case number for me to check and review your records and also the warranty of the unit. Regarding the artifacting issue, are you experiencing this issue all the time like when doing all your task with the computer? have your tried using different cables or use the graphics card to a different computer (if you have a spare unit) for comparison if the issue will still exist. Please make sure also that the graphics card driver is updated.
