1 out of 5 eggsunreliable

Pros: Very powerful card (when its working)

Cons: It is unreliable. I had to send it to warranty for repairs.(bsod)

After it came back, the HDMI port did not work.

Asus did not want to acknowledge warranty stating (the card had been benched for several ammount of hours with no problems) completely ignoring the fact that I was not complaining about the card overheating or underperforming , i was complaining about the HDMI PORT NOT WORKKING.

After much frustration, i ended up buying an active display port and ignoring my hdmi port (since i use triple monitors on dvi)

After a couple of months, the card now randomly does not want to display video on some ports. (dvi)

Overall I would not recommend asus video cards to anyone, they are poorly built and very low quality.

The worst part about asus is not the build quality. its the customer support.

I had initially reviewed this card positive, since I was amazed at the graphical power of it, but after almost a year of ownership I had to comeback and write my thoughts

Other Thoughts: dont buy.

Manufacturer Response:

Greetings Jon,

I do apologize that you experienced issues with your graphics card sir. Did you happen to RMA it already? If not, please let me know and I will be happy to assist you with setting up an RMA so that I may look into your case further. Please include your reference number within the subject line. In addition, please provide me with what troubleshooting steps you have tried, as well as the rest of the systems hardware configuration. Thank you!Cs# N141035197

3 out of 5 eggsGreat card when it works

Pros: - Fast cards
- Can handle 4k with two of these better than nVidia variants
- Fans are relatively quiet even @100% setting.

Cons: - Can get pretty hot
- Seem to have QA issues with cards being DOA or die within a few weeks

Other Thoughts: I ordered two of these cards for use in crossfire configuration a while back. The first two cards had problem with texture artifacts and stuff while gaming with the default factory settings, so I decided to RMA them for replacement.

I got my replacement cards a few weeks ago and they worked fine for a while, and, all of a sudden, one of the cards just dies with no prior sympton. I pulled each card out and tested them individually, the dead card wouldn't even get past windows log-in screen without causing freezes and/or BSOD with a message that I can't read since its all artifacts and screen tearing.

A month window has passed so I am now dealing with Asus RMA which is infamously slow. If you are lucky and get a fully functional card, it is a good card that will last you a couple of years.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome!

Pros: Great - lots of power - does what I need.

Cons: Runs hot - uses a lot of electricity - but thats to be expected for a graphics card with this power in this day & age.

Other Thoughts: soon - you will be able to get this power on your cell phone and your battery will last for weeks! Or we will all blow ourselves up and pollute the earth - hey who cares as long as I have my games and TV!

1 out of 5 eggs290X still has issues a year later.

Pros: High Performance when it worked.

Cons: When I initially bought this card to replace my 7950, I kept having issues with black screen/video drivers crashing. I put my 7950 back in and had no issues, and RMA'd it off to Asus. Asus's RMA didn't take too long, but when I got the card back it was now causing BSOD, in the 2 weeks it was away my 7950 never caused me any of these issues. Before and after I RMA'd the card, I read up on the web I saw a bunch of 290x/290 users all having the same issues with various solutions(There's a 127 page thread on overclockers about the black screen issue), but honestly you shouldn't be having this many issues with a graphics card, it should just work. Extremely disappointed, I went from 6970->7950->290x, but I'm going to break my AMD streak and probably go with Nvidia for my next card.

Other Thoughts: Decent Price, just make sure to stress test the card when you get it before your warrenty is out and you can send it back.

Asus support was extremely helpful trying to figure out how to get the card to work, but when the card itself is the issue there's not much you can do.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

I do apologize that your video card is not functioning at its full potential. If you need further assistance regarding the warranty service, please email me at and write down service # N140918287 in the subject line.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

5 out of 5 eggsGetting Better Every Gen

Pros: Beats most of everything out there ATT. Using the latest Beta Drivers in both Linux and Windows it runs like a dream

Cons: The HDMI sound out in Linux is a bit sketchy right now. I have 3 other sound devices in system, so I just picked the one that is working in Linux. In Windows I'm using the Creative Soundblaster Zx. So no big deal.

Other Thoughts: Sucks I have to wait almost a year in order to get what I want for multi-OS compatibility. However, by the time all the drivers and BIOs updates are figured out stability is no longer an issue.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat card bad software..

Pros: Very fast card. 4gb Vram helps a lot! Customizable to boot!

Cons: GPU-Tweak software can only handle only one card and goofs picking the wrong card if you have a second video card installed! Also bios software will auto flash your card with out warning so don't download it from Asus and click it unless you have to! Software development team must be out to lunch!

Other Thoughts: Noticed Asus does not care to update bios, or software or drivers of their products more than a couple times then moves on to newer product.

1 out of 5 eggsDisapointed

Pros: The card runs games well. Although not perfect but pretty darn good. A good bang for the buck in reference to Performance

Pretty quiet at idle. Some noise at full load.

Cons: Almost instantly of being under video heavy strain it turns into an oven. It reached temperatures of ~120-130 degrees Fahrenheit on a very well ventilated box.

Other Thoughts: The card was running so hot, I purchased a 240mm water cooling system just for it. But I think I did too late.

Now the card constantly makes my entire system crash when it's put under heavy load. I think I am out of luck on getting it warrantied as I I " tampered, repaired and/or modified" it per the warranty claws, therefor I now have an odd looking paperweight.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsMore 290X problems

Pros: King of high resolution gaming, 2160p

Cons: Gone through two cards and they're both bad. Stock is OC'd and it's not stable at all. Frequent crashes from too much heat.

Other Thoughts: Sure would be nice to get a refund, seeing as i'm outside the RMA window.

5 out of 5 eggsBeast Card

Pros: This card is stupid fast, stays cool due to great cooling, looks great in my case's side panel with the backplate. Runs any game on ultra at 2560X1080 usually with 60fps minimum. It is close to 780ti speeds at stock, and with a little overclock is faster than one.

Cons: Wont make me a sandwitch. lol but seriously it will use a lot of power, more than any other single gpu card. Not egregiously though, the 780ti uses about 20 watts less under full load.

Other Thoughts: The card was $650 which is a little high for one of these, but it was worth it, I will be set for a few years with this card.... that is if I can keep from upgrading in a year.

1 out of 5 eggsDoA

Pros: When it worked it worked well, but not in any kind of crossfire.

Cons: Upon arrival, it would crash and BSOD immediately when in crossfire with bezel correction enabled. It took ASUS about a week to determine that it was defective, I returned it and it took another month for them to determine that the replacement was also defective.

Other Thoughts: My RMA request was denied and now I'm stuck with a really expensive brick. I've had great experiences with NewEgg in the past, but I guess sometimes they let people fall through the cracks. :/

Would not buy again.
