1 out of 5 eggsDisapointed

Pros: The card runs games well. Although not perfect but pretty darn good. A good bang for the buck in reference to Performance

Pretty quiet at idle. Some noise at full load.

Cons: Almost instantly of being under video heavy strain it turns into an oven. It reached temperatures of ~120-130 degrees Fahrenheit on a very well ventilated box.

Other Thoughts: The card was running so hot, I purchased a 240mm water cooling system just for it. But I think I did too late.

Now the card constantly makes my entire system crash when it's put under heavy load. I think I am out of luck on getting it warrantied as I I " tampered, repaired and/or modified" it per the warranty claws, therefor I now have an odd looking paperweight.

1 out of 5 eggsMore 290X problems

Pros: King of high resolution gaming, 2160p

Cons: Gone through two cards and they're both bad. Stock is OC'd and it's not stable at all. Frequent crashes from too much heat.

Other Thoughts: Sure would be nice to get a refund, seeing as i'm outside the RMA window.

5 out of 5 eggsBeast Card

Pros: This card is stupid fast, stays cool due to great cooling, looks great in my case's side panel with the backplate. Runs any game on ultra at 2560X1080 usually with 60fps minimum. It is close to 780ti speeds at stock, and with a little overclock is faster than one.

Cons: Wont make me a sandwitch. lol but seriously it will use a lot of power, more than any other single gpu card. Not egregiously though, the 780ti uses about 20 watts less under full load.

Other Thoughts: The card was $650 which is a little high for one of these, but it was worth it, I will be set for a few years with this card.... that is if I can keep from upgrading in a year.

1 out of 5 eggsDoA

Pros: When it worked it worked well, but not in any kind of crossfire.

Cons: Upon arrival, it would crash and BSOD immediately when in crossfire with bezel correction enabled. It took ASUS about a week to determine that it was defective, I returned it and it took another month for them to determine that the replacement was also defective.

Other Thoughts: My RMA request was denied and now I'm stuck with a really expensive brick. I've had great experiences with NewEgg in the past, but I guess sometimes they let people fall through the cracks. :/

Would not buy again.

5 out of 5 eggs20 years ,had the first 160 mgz 486 in my OC club.

Pros: best single card solution I've ever installed in a machine
blows my asus hd7970 dc2 out of the water. picked up 2600 points on 3d mark 11 wow. I've been drag racing pc's for over 9 years now and have never seen a jump in performance in a single card config like this.

Cons: reading up may need a copper shim , ram could be cooled better. but I guess that's what a water block is for. five eggs no brainer. if you want to mine buy a mining possessor. there are many dedicated mining cards on the market .

Other Thoughts: beer tap would nice.

5 out of 5 eggsSweet Cards

Pros: Nice card, well built. Runs solid in solo with better FPS then my 6970 Lightnings in Crossfire & not as loud. The back plate along with a metal spine on the outward side helps keep the cards from sagging.

Cons: Having trouble getting any real world performance advantage running 2 of these in Crossfire. Actually they drop in performance with 2 in play, not what you would expect in a $600 + GPU so kind of bummed on that issue. The ASUS GPUTweek software sees both cards in Crossfire but they only seem to be breaking up the load between the 2 GPU rather then an uptick in Performance. Could this be due to the Lack of the Crossfire Connectors on these new cards? AMD states that there is not loss in performance moving the data across the PCIe bus, but I think that might not be true. I got the latest drivers in place all runs well just not near as big of a performance upgrade as I had hoped. I still gave 5 eggs as I hope to resolve this issue down the road.

Other Thoughts: Has anybody else been able to figure out how to get 2 of these to perform in Crossfire properly? My rig: AMD 8350 on ASUS Sabertooth R2, 32GB Dominator Ram, Corsair SSD & 1200W power supply. I am wondering if I need to move up to the ASUS Crosshair formula Z mother board???

3 out of 5 eggsGreat Card While it Worked

Pros: Awesome gaming. Great clear crisp picture. Also doubles as a space heater.

Cons: Card Failure

Other Thoughts: Started service case on April 2 2014. Sat on hold with ASUS for over an hour. RMA'd the card back to ASUS, and they replaced it with an HD7770 ($100 card) Still waiting on resolution May 9 2014.

1 out of 5 eggsNot long for this world...

Pros: Price, custom PCB, backing plate, appearance, superior VRMs, GPU cooler, custom color add-on stickers, 290x architecture, Elpida VRAM (this might be a con). Slightly overclocked GPU, included GPU Tweak monitoring software. These cards in crossfire were extremely fast out of the box. Driver installation under 8.1 x_64 was exquisitely simple and painless. Manufacturer fan curves made the cards nearly silent in NZXT Phantom case w/ fans everywhere, Sabertooth Z87 mb, i5-4670, Corsair AX PSU.

Cons: I purchased two of these on 3/13/2014 from newegg. They are now both dead. There is no cooling provided to the VRAM chips on the boards. I religiously monitored temps under load - GPU and VRM temps never exceeded 85C. Cards were never overclocked. First card failed at 29 days - dead short. Second card is now artifacting and has wide pink vertical stripe in output (4/25 - prompted this review). Thermal paste was completely dry and GPU cooler did not have full contact with GPU. As an engineer, I believe that this card/cooler design is flawed. I have two reference Sapphire R9 290s with aftermarket Accelero Hybrid coolers that outperform this design (at a higher cost). If I ever get two functional cards back for crossfire, it is my intention to liquid cool them as well as putting heat sinks on the VRAM chips. The R9 series runs too hot (85C) even with a Direct CU 2 cooler.

Other Thoughts: RMA'd the first card in to Newegg under the 30-day VGA return process. Thank You Newegg! Looks like it will be about a 3 week turn-around.
Will now have to commence the return process for the second card with ASUS. I will return to post the outcome of that process. Have 5 ASUS motherboards, an ASUS netbook, ASUS DVD-ROM drives - never had one of their products fail before these two video cards.

Manufacturer Response:

I am sorry that you are having issues with the display card. If you still have the second card and the unit is under warranty, please contact me through email to set up a RMA. My contact email can be found below. 3650551.

Thank you,

ASUS Customer Loyalty

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome cards

Pros: These cards are awesome!! Apologies to Asus for the first review!!

Cons: If you read my earlier review, this turned out to be a motherboard problem P6T7, seems the n200 chip on it cant take these babies, however asus said it was compatible until I called their techies, second I still cannot run crossfire for some reason, this is due to amd drivers I assume. At that point bought a rampage iv extreme and extreme 2011 64 gigs memory, no problem with cards. So if they do not work on your system do some checking.

Other Thoughts: Top side of this, these cards can handle anything I have thrown at them even without crossfire (cant wait till I can use it though)
