4 out of 5 eggsGreat card.

Pros: Runs fantastic with maxed out settings on all games I play. Outside of the known AMD video processing problem... this problem will only occur if there is low demand on the card(surfing the web, ect.). It is a true gaming card, but video demand is not there it will give you problems. Solution 1: Dumb down the card via amd's catalyst soft ware. Turn down both Mhz and clock speed. You will never see a change in any games but the problem will be solved. Solution 2: Run a game in the back ground when your not demanding video performance. Surfing the web... ect....

Cons: This card has a known problem, but easy to get around. If you experience video quality problems(lines in the screen, locking up... ect). You will have to dumb down the card via AMD;s catalyst program(the program that runs the card). Dumb down the MHZ and the Clock speed. Not by much, raise it til you have problems again.

Other Thoughts: Knowing this card has a fault from factory design. I would buy this card again because it is an amazing card. Do some research, there is a way around the problem so you will never experience any issue, and you will never see any change in performance.

4 out of 5 eggsAsus r9290-dc20c

Pros: Great card. Runs smooth and beautiful. Gaming and encoding much faster

Cons: Does not do the 4096 x 2160 advertised. It stll does 3200x1800 though. Also no documentation to speak of. This is why 4 eggs instead of 5

Other Thoughts: Thinking about buying a second card and see how it runs

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing card

Pros: I got mine cheap and absolutely love it, I can play any game I want on at least Medium settings at 1080p 60 fps with this card and my AMD 6300 cpu.

Cons: overclocking it is a little fickle but if you dont care about that then none.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Card - but avoid software

Pros: - Can run everything on max settings without so much as a hiccup
- Runs consistently cool (I've never gone over 67C
- Runs consistently smoothly with FPS no lower than 30 at any point, and usually at 60+
- Cost effective
(I've run this card doing CoD, Witcher 2, Crysis 2/3, MKX, Alien: Isolation, all at max settings without a flaw)

Cons: - Software issues can tank the entire experience (See my Other Thoughts)
- BSOD (See my Other Thoughts)

Other Thoughts: Here's my rig:
AMD FX 8350
ASUS M5A 99FX PRO 2.0 Motherboard
Ripjaws 16GB 1866
Samsung SSD 850 EVO x2 for 750GB
ASUS R9 290 GPU
EVGA 800W Gold Certified Modular PSU

The first time I got this card, I had everything set up, installed all software for MB, GPU, etc and latest drivers, and would consistently get black screens and force shutdowns/reboots. I had to go back to 13.x drivers to be able to successfully run, and later found that I could install the most up to date omega beta's, however could NOT install CCC or any other similar software (i.e. afterburner, Radeon PRO, etc) without getting black screens. I spoke with ASUS tech support, who stated they have never heard of this issue, despite many reviews stating BSODs. I RMA'd the card with Newegg, and took a different approach. I installed the newest catalyst package with drivers from AMD, and then ran 3DMark and gamed for several hours with no issues at all and flawless performance. I then installed my MB software from ASUS to do monitoring, OC, etc, and the BSOD's returned. I uninstalled the MB software, and all is well. So bottom line is that all of these BSOD complaints may actually be software related. Now, I understand this issue shouldn't be happening regardless, but the performance of this card is so incredibly good, and the software benefit from this stuff is so marginal, I think its a no brainer. If you're having BSODs, try uninstalling any extraneous software you have and starting from scratch with your GPU, might work! But this is a phenomenal card.

2 out of 5 eggsRandom black outs.

Pros: Noticeable improvement over my GTX 550ti. Crisper graphic quality. About a 8-10 FPS gain on Arma 3 Dayz mod.

Cons: I had flickering black out while playing any game every 2 to 5 minutes. I updated the drivers and did some web search to change some factory settings to a lower setting and higher fan percentage usage. This helped out a lot. While logging into Dayz Standalone after the above changes, I get a black screen randomly. I have to go to the task menu to close out the game. Sometimes when I look at the ground the screen blacks out as well. When I look up at the horizon it returns to normal view. Driver cd did not work.

Other Thoughts: The driver cd did not work at all. Good for me that I was able to DL drivers from Radeon. It seemed to help with the black outs but that problem is still there randomly.

5 out of 5 eggsInitial Review, Amazing!

Pros: Great card for the price that I got for $269.99(+ $30 MIR) so total $240 for a high end card!!. I know the 300 series is shortly due - in the next two months or so and they will perform better, more energy eff. and cooler -- but I'm sure that I would not get this type of performance for this type of $$. in addition if we compare the 290 w. GTX 970 sure the 970 beats it and runs cooler but the gap is not that much w/o OC and its ~$90 cheaper.

Currently there is no Nvidia card for ~260ish for this type of game.

When it comes to FPS @1080p I get min 40+ max from 75-100+ fps depending on the game. 1440p would be no problem for this card, @ 4k would not recommend unless CX

Cooling is pretty good in comparison to reference 290(250W) and it stays near temps my 270(150W) was reaching. More details below.

Cons: Because this is a 250+W card it will get hot and coming from a R9 270 the 290 can get a bit loud for my taste.

The good thing is that I have a well ventilated case Antec 1100 w/ 5 silent fans and planning to add 1 or 2 more fans to the side panel for VGA cooling. So far my card sit @ 38 -40c Idle and while gaming on not so intense games (guild wars 2, FFXIII,) it reaches 64c and when playing on intense games like Dragon Age Inquisition, The Witcher 2(ubersampling) it reaches 78c and breaks that silent barrier mind you its not a jet plane! its just that you will hear the fans doing their job,

Other Thoughts: VGA shopping is not easy for minded shoppers and people that want to maximize performance and value at this price is a steal. If you find this card @ reg proce &300 I would say either wait for the R9 300 series or spend a little more and go for GTX970.

Even this card is not a DX12 it will support most of its features so this card will be future safe.

Hopefully this is of some use for VGA shoppers

5 out of 5 eggsThumbs up

Pros: Runs super cool even while intensive gaming never gets above 47C and I just have stock fans in right now. Smashes every game I have on highest settings, looks balling. Might buy another one in the future for crossfire or another computer that's how much I love it.

Cons: large, to fit it im my PCI I had to remove the top of my hardrive holder, even then I only had about 1 cm. However that is to be expected with how well it runs, as well im only running a mid sized tower.

Other Thoughts: If your looking for a reliable fairly cheap card that destroys games this is it.

5 out of 5 eggsa quite beast!!

Pros: this card is absolutely quite. the fans are quiter that my radiator fans. it impresses when it comes to its performance. I bought mine for a good 260 USD and I say it was perfect because it over performs the 960 and just slightly under a 970 when it comes to performance

Cons: none at all. no noise, performance issue. all good

5 out of 5 eggsFlawless

Pros: Runs great and easy to overclock it a bit w/o worry

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: I bought an R9 290 from MSI on my first shot. Was not impressed and thought i just wasted money on the card. Then i bought this one and it blew the MSI 290 out of the water. Everything i seem to buy from MSI has under performed. Replaced my gpu and mobo to the ASUS equivalents and increased my performance by a noticable 18% in games and 27% in benchmark tests. Next is a gigabyte build :)
