It just vanishes
- Pros: Great card! Ran out of the box with Fedora 11. The best part is the absence of a fan -- once installed, it's almost like it isn't there. I am not a game player, so will never run into overheating issues.
- Cons: None so far.
Nice card
- Pros: 512 MB
PCI-E 2.0 DDR2 Fast
- Cons: memory actually runs at 400 mhz.
- Other Thoughts: I Tried to overclock it with its utility that came with it, went up to 800 mhz on core clock, 550 mhz on memory. i thought it was cool, going up that high with this card.
Also, i did hybrid sli with my onboard gpu, 8200.
turns out to be 8500... slight boost there.
overall, pretty good.
This was a replacement
- Pros: Got this card from Gigabyte as a replacement for a GV-NX73G256D-RH 7300GS I bought at Newegg. It failed after 22 months. Gigabyte Customer Service was a NIGHTMARE to deal with. They made me return the original card 3 times. 1st time they shipped same card back claiming it was repaired. It had not been, HDMI out was still non-functioning. 2nd RMA GB agreed to send me a NEW 7300gs card. I did not trust them so I marked my 7300gs in 3 places. Guess what. They sent me back the same exact non-functioning 7300gs with a new serial number label in place of the original. My 3 marks were clear as day, and 7300gs was still non-functional. I called GB, at first they denied sending me the same card back. After a bit I got ticked off and hung up. I called back and got a new rep who advised me that they couldn't send me a new 7300gs because they no longer had any. No joke - I already figured that out. 2nd rep tacitly admitted they sent me same card back with a new label. (story continued under Cons)
- Cons: He even laughed about it. GB then issued a 3rd RMA and agreed to send me a brand NEW 8400gs (this model) to make up for their shenanigans. But they couldn't even do that. Cheap to the end, they sent me a used/returned 8400gs - there was no shrink wrap on the box, and scratch marks on the card itself. Used.
Companies like Gigabyte baffle me. They spent 3 hours of rep time on the phone with me and paid shipping and handling between N.C. and California 5 times, all to try to keep from fairly replacing a card that was still under warranty. I figure they spent at least $85 trying to get out of honoring their warranty. I never asked for an upgrade until GB admitted they had no 7300gs to ship me. For probably less than $30 they could have done the right thing and sent me a new 8400gs at the start (since they were out of the 7300gs cards). Then they would have saved money, and made me a happy customer who would buy their products and give them positive reps all over the internet. (cont. belo
- Other Thoughts: Instead, they spent at the very least 2x's as much, probably more, and now I will never buy Gigabyte products again, and I will tell this story every chance I get. I am not a ripoff artist, just a person who asked Gigabyte to honor their warranty on a graphics card I purchased in good faith here at Newegg. One reason I originally bought the Gigabyte brand 7300gs was because of their 3 year warranty. But what good is a long warranty when the company spends their time, energy and money trying to cheap out on it and treating a customer like the enemy? Seriously, buy another brand and save yourself the hassle.
I certify that all I have posted here is true. The RMA process began 4/29 and I just now got back a working (USED) videocard on 7/16. Newegg can check and see that I bought the GV-NX73G256D-RH GeForce 7300GS here from them on 6-2-2007. Newegg ROCKS!! But Gigabyte failed to honor their warranty in a reasonable and straightforward fashion. What a baffling way to run a business. :
