4 out of 5 eggsSuits HTPC Well

Pros: Fairly cheap and very quiet (of course)

Cons: Won't impress on high-end video games, but that's not what it is for.

Other Thoughts: Basically, this is a step up from MB onboard video and it is fanless so it makes perfect sense for an HTPC. The card is even capable of playing mid-range video games very smoothly at 720p. Admittedly, I haven't tried it at 1080p.

5 out of 5 eggsNice and Quiet

Pros: Quiet, runs StarCraft II on High on 1280x1024, nice price.
Does not take up extra slots for heatsink space.
HDMI output allows me to watch Hulu and other Internet video on my Hometheater at 1080p

Cons: Little dated, I think there are 5000 series fan less cards now with better gaming performance. (5550 or something)

Other Thoughts: Been running great, since I first got it and hasn't quit yet.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat HTPC card

Pros: First, you should know that the card is great for HTPC's and with its silent cooling, ect. It's not much better than the 785g Ati HD4200 with sideport intergrated graphics, but its still better. I like this design as it stays warm, but doesn't get hot under moderate loads. Still, I would be wary to put this in a box without much ventilation. I dub this five eggs for the price I got it for in a spectacular combo deal.

Cons: Just one... And it isn't Gigabyte's fault. The blame for this hideous hosebeast of an issue rests with ATI. The HDMI outputs on ALL ATI cards and intergrated graphics are scaled by default. You can use the Catalyst Control Center to change the scaling percentage, but not eliminate it for 1080p. If you're using a tv with justify settings, then it doesn't really matter. Unfortunately my monitor doesn't justify images, so the picture isn't one to one. It looks horrible. I can just use the dsub or dvi on my monitor, but I actually kinda need it in my application. Until I find a way to force the scaling settings off, I will continue to be upset with ATI. I will figure this out, but it annoys me. A lot. All of my ATI devices do this. They all do this. I notice that many people are confused about this and think there is something wrong with their gear.

Other Thoughts: Ati, please make the HDMI 1:1. Please.

This card is great considering the combo deal I got on it. I got this with an OCZ 500 Active PFC modular 80 plus power supply. Both the items together were 75$ and with the mail in rebates it will only by 35$.

RIGHT ON, NEWEGG

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works great for HD videos. Use it in my HTPC

Cons: Haven't figured out how to get the screen to fill up 100% of my TV. Set to 1080p TV setting but leaves about a 1.5" frame around the edges. Might be a TV setting as well.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat buy!

Pros: The card, being passively cooled, is absolutely silent. Even still, it packs some respectable power. You won't be able to play new games at high settings, but medium is very do-able. The 4550 also tears through older games like Doom 3 and HL2.

Cons: So it won't play Metro 2033 very well! But you knew that already. :-)

Other Thoughts: As with all mail-in rebates, claiming the offer I had on these was a hassle. I also learned that the MIR can only be applied to a single card per order!

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Value Graphics card

Pros: Overall this card has certainly treated me well. It is being used in a lower power, dual boot AMD sempron 140 build to more or less an HTPC capacity.

With the sempron overclocked to 3.25 ghz I can play H264 1080p HD using vlc in windows 7 without a hitch through the HDMI output (sound too). Dual monitor functionality was easy to set up in both windows 7 x64 and Ubuntu 10.04 x64, and in windows, the HDMI sound readily showed up in the control panel.

Easy installation overall. Although the ATI software is another story...

Cons: The Catalyst Control Center software that comes with ATI graphics cards and chipsets just decided to stop working today all of a sudden. Of course there is a logical explanation as to why but I don't really feel like finding out since everything still works just fine. I uninstalled all the drivers and software for this card in windows and the card's basic functionality remains the same.

The ATI software did offer a quick and easy way to overclock the card, but I can do without this overall. In Ubuntu Linux 10.04 x64, the ATI software just plainly sucks. Ubuntu automatically recognized the card and referred the ATI Catalyst Control Center software but trying to set up dual monitors or even a single working display was basically impossible, and I uninstalled the ATI software completely. HDMI sound in Ubuntu is also not working.

ATI really ought to get their software up to basic functional form and quit with the cheesy continous advertising while they're at it.

Other Thoughts: This card is an excellent choice for a movie watcher and casual gamer (counterstrike source in my case). The value it presents, especially with the rebate, is fantastic. The hitches I have had with it seem to really be based on ATI slacking a bit, but hopefully they will improve down the road.

I don't necessarily expect to have all hardware functionality covered for my linux distro of choice (although nowadays such coverage is becoming more commonplace), but hardware should completely run smoothly in Windows (even though it is a less featured and inferior operating system).

If I were to build an HTPC or a basic dual monitor get up for a casual pc user, I would definitely look to incorporate this card

1 out of 5 eggsFine while it lasted (9 mo.)

Pros: Exactly what I wanted...
- Silent (fanless)
- Worked on Win7 64 w/ all effects
- Long life components (or so I thought)

Cons: Simply stopped working after 9 months of light use in well-ventilated, non-OC build.

Other Thoughts: Chosen specifically for a low-noise, high quality Win7 64-bit build meant to last 4-5 years. Other components included:

Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2
Intel i5-750 Lynnfield
ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro
G-Skill PC-13300
Caviar Black WD6401AALS
PC Power and Cooling Silencer PPCS420X
Antec Sonata (upgraded fans)
