Serious gamers require serious gear. That is why Gigabyte has developed the Super Overclock Series. To qualify for Super Overclock Series, a GPU must go through GIGABYTE’s innovative GPU Gauntlet Sorting process and it must be equipped with Ultra Durable VGA or VGA+ boards. Designed specifically for overclocking competition and gaming battle, GIGABYTE’s secret weapon GV-N580SO-15I is built with NVDIA GeForce GTX 580 GPU. Based on 40nm processor and advanced GDDR5 memory technology, the powerful GPU consists of ground-breaking features including Microsoft DirectX 11 and NVIDIA PhysX which lead to incredibly immersive HD gaming experience and unrivaled performance. To satisfy hardcore gamers and extreme overclockers, GV-N580SO-15I is especially designed with GIGABYTE Extreme Dual BIOS technology, WINDFORCE 3X cooling, 14 phase PWM design, OC Guru graphic card smart tuner and voltage read point.

  • newegg GIGABYTE GPU Gauntlet Sorting GIGABYTE’s very own GPU Gauntlet Sorting process is the key to the best GPUs for Super Overclock Series. A GPU must pass a sequence of tests to be selected. This unique process offers three major advantages. First, full-throttle performance tuning improves overclocking ability. Second, optimized thermal efficiency lowers extra temperatures. Fan speed is guaranteed at standard rpm in high-rated 3D and physics-accelerated games to reduce noise for an absolutely quiet environment. Lastly, expert power switching lowers power switching loss. With GPU Gauntlet Sorting, GIGABYTE SOC graphics card guarantees higher overclocking ability.
  • newegg GIGABYTE Extreme Dual BIOS technology As opposed to the traditional concept of dual BIOS chips where one is a main BIOS and the other one is a backup BIOS, GIGABYTE Extreme Dual BIOS technology contains two different BIOS chips designed for separate purposes. GIGABYTE Extreme Dual BIOS technology supports one-touch dual BIOS switching button to shift between two BIOSes.
  • newegg WINDFORCE 3X: Anti-turbulence Cooling The GV-N580SO-15I is equipped with WINDFORCE 3X cooling solution. WINDFORCE 3X outward-inclined fin design is GIGABYTE’s innovative new generation triple-fan solution, which features 3 ultra quiet PWM fans, two 8mm copper heat pipes and a king-size (140x86 mm) vapor chamber to maximize the speed of heat dissipation. The special outward-inclined triple-fan design effectively minimizes the flow of turbulence between three fans. With a unique vapor chamber, WINDFORCE 3X is able to transfer heat from the hot spot to the cool spot as thermal energy becomes evaporated to the surrounding air. By capillary action, the condensed liquid droplets circulate back to the base of chamber. The cycles of evaporation and condensation enhance heat dissipation for greater cooling efficiency. Moreover, WINDFORCE 3X is equipped with three copper heat pipes to strengthen the speed of heat dissipation.
  • newegg Ultra Durable VGA + Thanks to Ultra Durable VGA+ that features 5+1 quality components, the Super Overclock Series supports top performance in graphics benchmarking. GIGABYTE Ultra Durable VGA+’s 5 units of proadlizer on GV-N580SO-15I graphics cards is able to provide amazing current capacity and extremely low ESL/ESR for super overclocking ability compared to traditional power design (zero proadlizers). The added proadlizers transmit more stable power even during heavy loading.
  • newegg OC Guru – Graphic Card Smart Tuner Gigabyte’s graphics card tweaking utility OC Guru puts together the best combination of software/hardware overclocking, with 3 profiles to cater to users’ different needs - OC (for overclocking mode), Gaming (for gaming mode), and Green (for power saving mode). Gigabyte’s distinctive adjustable software offers gamers to adjust tuners for memory, voltage, and fan speed.
  • newegg Voltage Read Point Gigabyte’s specific voltage read point allows users to change the voltage simply through software instead of manually adjusting any components on PCB, offering hardcore gamers an ultimate benching experience at overclocking competition. It is easy for overclockers to master the platform and monitor GPU workload at any time just through voltage read point.

1 out of 5 eggsBAD testing in RMA

Pros: The card worked great, the best 580 ever made I think!!

Cons: The RMA services completely sucked. All of the sudden the card stopped powering. I tried multiple systems with different psu and different pci e slot to test, but no luck. I filled out an RMA clain RMA# USA-1441034 sent it, cost me 30 bucks to send it back, as I am in Canada, and I just go it today. Plugged it in, it had booted up, great!!! However, as soon as I got to the bios and main windows screen the graphics were tearing and I couldnt see anything. I Tried installing drivers, tried different pci e slots, but nothing. It took me so long to wait for a card, and this is what I get??????

I paid a lot of money for this card, as this was one of the most expensive 580, but now its a dud, I will have to create another RMA and spend another 30 dollars to see what I get. This is terrible support for such great product.

My board is gigabyte its my good old P67A-UD4 B3. I dont know if I ever want to buy gigabyte, because of this. Why as this not tested? And if it was tested, was it ever tested by connecting to a normal system to see if the graphcis actually work or just that it powers on?

4 out of 5 eggsNot a noob

Pros: This card handles everything effortlessly however there are something's to consider that have been incorrectly stated in previous reviews. Nicely packaged. Decent over clooking/ monitoring software.

Contrary to other statements, they can be SLId easily.

Cons: Overheating (see below)

Going back,I would buy the PNY or EVGA.

Other Thoughts: Overheating
Without a well ventilated case, in SLI the cards will overheat.period. The open air card design doesn't move the air effectively enough otherwise. The pictures don't lie. Look any a PNY or any other card that has an enclosed case that can channel the air and compare it this models design. Makes sense.
I bought the cards because they were quieter than over 580s,but will all the additional fans, the point is moot.

They can be SLI'd quite easily, but of course this is when you face the overheating issue.

5 out of 5 eggsLove this Card!

Pros: This card has been one of the best I have reviewed in some time. I own my own business building and repairing PCs. I ordered this card 4 months ago for my own personal system. This card DOES NOT run hot. For those that may have that problem really need to upgrade their case. I have also run these in SLI with no heat issues. As a single card I have even overclocked them with NO heat issues. I also would not recommend going with a 3GB card unless you’re going to run many different monitors. I use a 24 inch running at 1920x1080. There are lots of games that will not work right with more than 2GB RAM on the GPU (games made before 2010). I have had tons of problems with the 3GB cards - not worth it. If you really have a need for more GPU RAM it's better to go with 2 of these in SLI and shut one card off for the older games that go crazy with 3GB of RAM on the GPU.

Cons: Will not appeal to cheapskates, n00bs, and AMD fanboys due to price. It is worth every penny though.

Other Thoughts: This card is the real deal, don't just look at it, buy it!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Card

Pros: Nice overclock, no problems running games at high settings, does not run hot. Fans are quieter than my GTX480 under load.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I used to have a gigabyte GTX275 super OC and that was a very nice card. I'm very happy with Gigabytes super OC cards. This runs much cooler than my GTX480 I replaced it with. This card gets up to 66C under load, my 480 would get up to 90C under load. If you have good airflow in your case overheating will not be a problem for this card.

5 out of 5 eggs6 Months, no problem.

Pros: 1 - Doesn't overheat.
2 - Love the stock clock speed and performance.
3 - Wasn't DOA and haven't had a single problem with it in 6 months.

Cons: You can't SLI these cards. This is because of the cooler design. Be aware of this when you purchase this product.

I bought this with the intention of upgrading my system with a new card in a year or two and transferring my 580 to another system.

Other Thoughts: It isn't a 3 gb model, and you can now buy 3 gb's for the same price as the 1.5 gb's.

The cooler on this is a special design and you must be aware of that. If you don't have the room for the fan or anything else, then this card will be a bad buy for you.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome card

Pros: Super fast card, makes my low-mid end system handle all the games I play.

Quiet.
Runs cool (so far has not reached over 46C during stress testing).
Not the power hog I thought it would be. My Cyberpower UPS measures my wattage and has maxed out at 515 watts (including monitor which uses about 70 watts). My EA-650 can easily handle this GPU.

Cons: Price

Other Thoughts: I used 3dmark Vantage before and after installing this card. My 8800 GTS 512 scored 2672 on the GPU and 33612 for the CPU.

This card scored 13541 GPU and 50193 CPU scores (max graphic settings).

5 out of 5 eggsGood Card

Pros: The cooler works great on this card. From stock to over clocked, it keeps the temps low as long as you have decent airflow in your case. This card overclocks quite well using a third party tool. Plays most games out there without a hitch at 1920x1080p and high to highest settings.

Cons: The Gigabyte overclocking software was a throw away for me. I tried the latest version from their website first... no dice. Tried a few different driver versions, including driver versions that I saw mentioned on review sites... no dice. Tried the software that was on the disc just to be thorough... no dice. Oh well, moving on. The BIOS toggle switch is in an impossible position once the card is installed. I managed to get it pressed using a makeshift tool while mounted but it wasn't without some effort. So, I proved that it CAN be pushed while mounted it's just a terrible position for the switch.

Other Thoughts: Even with the couple of gripes, I am pleased with this card. I want to try SLI with a pair of these in the near future. I'll deal with any heat issues should they arise. It appears they will be well within the thermal envelope in SLI judging by an over clocked load temp of 71 degrees C, we'll see.

4 out of 5 eggsWorth the price

Pros: FAST, no need to say anything else. This is the fastest single GPU card on the market.

Cons: Price.

Other Thoughts: I do have a little problem with the thing. When the card is under full load, it emits a high pitch electrical sound (buzzing or whining). It is relatively loud, louder than the fans in the PC. It is really annoying and I dont know if the card is gonna fail on me or not.

My previous card was Gigabyte GTX 470 and it didnt had that problem. I have a Corsair TX750 V1 PSU so I dont think its current starved or anything (no SLI).

The system doesnt seem to be unstable or anything, its just noisy.

Should I RMA?

2 out of 5 eggsOverheats Super Fast

Pros: Fast card

Cons: Overheats Super fast and shuts down system. Stock out of the box this card gave me issues. Overheats when not even playing games, with GPU temps sitting at around 50degrees when surfing the net, I hit 100 degrees C playing portal...
Seems like I may have a bad card.
