2 out of 5 eggsDon't SLI

Pros: They run cool and give good graphics

Cons: Do not buy to run in SLI. Every game I have tryed to play I get the black screen of death only way out is to unplug computer, so I disabled sli and run just one card and its just ok...

Other Thoughts: I hope they come out with a fix soon before Crysis 3

5 out of 5 eggsBest Bang for your Buck & Gigabyte does a nice job

Pros: .Nicely built.
.Quiet! [WindForce2] dual (larger than avg) fans and heatpipes.
.Comes with dust covers for all contacts.
.Great price:performance ratio.

Cons: .Probably either will want two to run in SLI or a 570/670 or higher.
.almost as expensive as the newer cards (but you get a very nicely made card with an excellent cooling system).

Other Thoughts: I bought one at first, then a second one months later, to run SLI. I am happy with the SLI setup's performance in WoW and Diablo 3 now, but one card didn't quite cut it for me. I run both games at ultra/highest settings and get 20-60 FPS on 1080p 60Hz w/ vertical sync.

I built my fiance a system using an AMD FX 6100 & a 6870 and the 6870 gives a little less FPS with lower multisampling and anisotropic filtering settings in WoW than my SLI setup.

4 out of 5 eggsGet the BIOS update

Pros: Runs games at high settings with a medium resolution or high res at medium settings. Has HDMI with sound. The card is sufficient for someone that doesn't need highest settings at 1080p for the newest games. It certainly is capable of playing all games.

Cons: The BIOS that came on the card is very unstable. The computer will freeze after an hour of playing 3d games. Gigabyte did release a new bios that fixed the freezes so getting that is a must.

Other Thoughts: Get the BIOS update!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: oc'd from factory
over-sized heat sink
dual 100mm fans
two copper heat pipes
bang for the buck
card feels physically sturdy unlike some budget cards can
plugged it in, waited for drivers to initialize with win 7 ultimate x64, once initalized all my games either went up on their settings WHILE lagging less (vs 6770hd) or if already @ max with the old card just lagged less.
the quality of the fan noise is also less harsh, more like a gentle breeze through dry leaves than like a fan going into upper reaches of it's speed capability vs previous card.

Cons: not a 4 gpu sli combo?
consumes a bit more power when @ full load (vs 6770hd)?
somewhat long, so might not work for compact builds
some people won't understand that the harder it's running the louder the fans will go and therefore louder it will be (for reference, it's been quiteter than the 6770 on everything, but is still noticeable when spinning past 50% max speed, not a jet engine tho.)
192bit memory instead of 256bit (but it's still 'wider' than 128bit)
nothing here is worth docking an egg over so meh

Other Thoughts: for the price this card is AMAZING my 6770 would occasionally lag or stutter on Black Light Retribution, no more of that, the images also seem just a hint crisper and the toxic grenades (heavy particle effects) no longer cause lag-spikes.
still images and video also look sharper, basically the only negative i can even kind of mention is the power consumption, and that's a minimal bump for the amount of performance gain.

The heat sink/fan combo is nice and overbuilt, designed to be stuffed in a hot cramped case and actually deal with it though I have sufficient ventilation to not worry about it.
runs about 12-13*C cooler than my X eff Ecks 6770 ever did @ idle, playing games it nears the same peak temps (within 1-2*c lower but meh) with lower % fan speed and noticeably less noise from fans.

2 out of 5 eggsOVERHEATS

Pros: Very Good game resolution & FPS. Card has 3 speed ranges depending on load.

Cons: Card has 3 speeds but cannot seem to throttle down when it is getting too HOT. This should be able to handle Fallout New Vegas with ease, but gets stuck in turbo mode, & overheats till it shuts the computer down. Gigabyte's tech support is difficult to deal with.

Other Thoughts: When the card is 132 degrees. the CPU is 104 & everything else is under 90. Once I put the game in standby while checking the temp using Speccy, the card cools down quickly, a degree every 1-2 seconds till about 100, before the cooling slows down from there to 84 degrees. Mounted a Cougar 120mm side case fan to blow directly onto the card which keeps it cooler & cools it faster than the stock fan, but it still overheats, just takes longer. I've uninstalled & reinstalled the most current drivers with no effect.

4 out of 5 eggsOverall Good Buy

Pros: Let me start by saying I purchased a very similiar model to this one that has since been discontinued and that is the model I am still using. I have 2 DVI ports instead but the clock speeds are the same as this card. I bought 2 more for my brother and it was not a bad buy however I did run into issues when I tried to run the 2 cards in SLI. After the 3rd day it started throwing artifacts, BAD. I RMA'd the cards for a different 500 series and that was that. Newegg support helped me a ton and got me my refund faster than I expected. My original 550ti is still running and being worked every single day. It does not max every game, but I think my processor is partially to blame for that as well.

Cons: Of the 3 cards I bought 2 threw artifacts after running in SLI. Normally I'd be upset, but the 550ti solo is doing MUCH better than the 6750 the used to be there. No more BSOD's! :D

Other Thoughts: Aside from my issue with SLI this seems to be a good card for the money. I have noticed that I can max game settings but my FPS tends to remain constant and my GPU monitoring program reports less than 30-050% of the 550ti processor is being utilized and usually about 1/2 the video memory. I often wonder why it doesnt use more of the processor to up my fps and run my programs better ... I can't complain about my video encoding rate though, and CATIA is running wonderfully.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Card

Pros: Replaced my GTX 7800 SLI setup with this card and it blows away my old setup. This card works great under linux and windows!! Fast and cool, just what I needed for my PC :)

Cons: None yet

Other Thoughts: Scores a 7.6 on windows graphics index with my setup. I previously purchased an ATI 6870 card and was disappointed with the linux support.
