3 out of 5 eggsIssues with card and Newegg CS is awful.

Pros: Powerful card, I guess.

Cons: First was DOA, took 2 weeks for Newegg to get me another one.

Other Thoughts: Having some compatibility issues with the card, apparently, Newegg's 30 day return policy includes the 2 weeks that it took them to get the card back to me after the first was DOA. Shame on newegg for not giving a full 30 day return period. 3 stars for the card, and -10 stars for Newegg Customer Service. Used to be the best in the industry, and it's become a joke now. I guess I need to start looking at other vendors, instead of blindly buying from Newegg.

2 out of 5 eggsDriver error

Pros: This card is fast when it works, 4 gig vram is great and so is the 512 memory bus

Cons: Card had driver issues, amd couldnt not detect, black screens and 0xa0000001 driver error causing my comp to need to be restarted atleast 8 times a day

-Stock cooler is bad and really loud when pushed

- Can't refund card only replace

Other Thoughts: contacted newegg they gave me store credit refund bought the asus directcu ii version instead. Factory overclocked, costum fan, costum pcb board, and back plate. with much more cosistent performance. Still completely overpriced

5 out of 5 eggsGot Crossfire Working!

Pros: Now that I have them working properly I am very pleased. I use two in crossfire for gaming at 4320x2560. They handle all the current games very well and I'm not having the tearing issues I had in previous crossfire setups. Performance is great at stock clock speeds and the stock coolers seem to handle them fairly well

Cons: If you increase the fan speed on the coolers passed about 50% they get a little loud. Look for an aftermarket cooler or put them under water if you want to OC.

Other Thoughts: I wrote the review below before I got crossfire working. It took a lot of trial and error but after many hours of screwing around I got the cards to work properly. You have to expect some issues when adopting new tech. The lack of support from AMD was disappointing though, especially considering I'm using all AMD components.

2 out of 5 eggsBSOD

Pros: I have two of these cards. One at a time they work extremely well. Great frame rates vs other cards I've used, even using 4320x2560 in eyefinity. They're also much quieter than my old 7990.

Cons: Crossfire doesn't work. The instant I click on "apply" in the crossfire screen in catalyst I get a BSOD with a graphics driver error code. I've tried half a dozen drivers and a couple mobo bios versions with no success. I wrote AMD support an email last week and have had no reply. This is very frustrating since I bought these cards for a crossfire application. They're essentially $650 paperweights to me.

5 out of 5 eggsgood product

Pros: running full throttle 24h 7 days a week no problem so far

Cons: some optimization could be done by replacing thermal paste some are running hot others are not
at 100% fan better put the computer in the garage im telling u my wife was getting very mad at me having the computer in the living room at full throttle ;)

Other Thoughts: in crossfire configuration better have a fan the size of your case running at 10000 rpm if u want to keep those baby cool

5 out of 5 eggsBest Graphics card ive owned to date!

Pros: I bought 2 of these cards a week apart, both came with Hynix memory chips which are the good ones that overclock like mad. I Have my card sitting at 1300 Core/ 1600 Memory.

Cons: Stock cooler was very loud and hot, to keep temps under 80*c you need around a 70% fan speed which sounds like a jet... But i only used stock cooling for a few hours to test cards, becuase i installed EK full cover waterblocks.

Other Thoughts: I was very happy when i found out i got Hynix memory chips, other reviewers said they got the elupida ones. Under waterblocks these cards run no hotter then 40*c which is a vast improvement over the stock coolers 95*c.

2 of these cards in Crossfire runs every game i own at 5760x1080 eyefintiy at well over 120fps ultra settings.

2 out of 5 eggsMajor heat issues.

Pros: Proprietary Linux driver support from AMD. 850kH/s on scrypt mining with no optimization or overclocking at all. At this rate, the card will pay for itself in 3 or 4 months. Sweet!

Cons: No open source Linux driver yet. You're going to have to completely reinstall the driver following each kernel update. Not ideal, but not a showstopper. Just something to be aware of.

Unstable out of the box with official AMD drivers, default settings and no overclocking whatsoever. Crashes frequently due to heat issues while playing BF4 or DotA. I was shocked that even just watching full screen YouTube videos will bring it up to 90C. MSI Afterburner with a custom fan profile is not optional: the card will then run stably, but it's as loud as a vacuum cleaner. This is unacceptable for such an expensive card.

Other Thoughts: I'm going to try installing an aftermarket cooling system. Unfortunately, this voids the warranty.

The reference cooler really is awful. I would gladly have paid $100 more for the same card with a cooling solution that allows the card to run stably with default settings out of the box.

2 out of 5 eggsHorrible for mining and unstable for gaming

Pros: While it works it pushes decent framerate for games. While it works...

Cons: 1) It's loud. If you don't crank the fan up it'll run insanely hot doing anything. I've had loud before, but this is power tool loud at even 65% fan.
2) Elpida RAM. It's voltage locked and caps at 1500 MHz. It runs hot and limits for scrypt mining.
3) Not nearly as good for scrypt mining as other 290x's using Hynix. See con #2. You will cap at 880kH/s while other 290x's will cap over 930kH/s.

Other Thoughts: I owned for four days. On day four I had to RMA it. With underclocked (not overclocked) settings I noticed a trend in temperature from day to day. Day 1 was a chilly 84C at 65% fan. Day 2 was up to 87C. Day 3 was 88C. The morning of Day 4 the card crashes the display driver any time I put it under load, which includes simply playing a game. I put the card in two different computers with freshly installed ATI drivers and stock clock speeds. Within 60 seconds of the card being put in gaming higher clock speeds it crashes the display driver, resets the card, and refuses to do anything other than simple desktop display until a reboot.

Avoid this card. I've put in an RMA for a replacement, but I notice it's out of stock now. I'm willing to give it one more chance, but anyone looking for a new card, get a different 290x.
